The Suns defeated the Pistons, 114-96 tonight in Phoenix. Dillon Brooks finished with a team-high 40 points along with 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the Suns, while Grayson Allen tallied 24 points, 5 assists and 4 three pointers in the game. Cade Cunningham recorded 26 points, 7 assists and 3 rebounds. The Suns improve their record to 29-19 with the win, while the Pistons fall to 34-12 for the season.
Phoenix restored order Tuesday night with a bounce-back win over Brooklyn, but a much
larger task awaits for them tonight as his homestand continues with the visitors from
the Motor City and the top team of the East making a pit stop here at the MMC.
It's the Suns and the Pistons here on Arizona's Family Sports.
They come in with an Eastern Conference record of 34-11 overall, 15-6 on the road.
Cade Cunningham, Duncan Robinson, Nassar Thompson, Tobias Harris, and Jalen Durant.
And for the Suns, Collin Gillespie, the Suns' iron man back in the starting lineup, Grayson
Allen, Dylan Brooks, Royce O'Neal, and the big man in the middle, Mark Williams.
Now let's...
And off we go on this Thursday night, the front end of a back-to-back through the top
teams in the Eastern Conference tonight.
Detroit tomorrow night, the Cleveland Cavaliers.
That's so bread and butter.
Yeah, look, this is the same lineup the Suns went into Detroit as Jalen Durant, who is
having one heck of a season in his fourth year.
But David Booker did not play, Jalen Green did not play, as Brooks able to set his feet
and knocks down the open three.
He is strong as an ox.
He is limber, like he knows how to get to this box.
Here is Cunningham, who already achieved something he was unable to when these two teams met
back on January the 15th.
His season low, 10 points, he was 0-7 from downtown.
Yeah, he struggled for a run.
But they're so good that he was able to get it done.
Look at that.
Early Dylan Brooks.
Here is Thompson.
He's turned 22 years of age tomorrow.
And, of course, his twin, Moines Durant, again, just powers his way inside.
That is it.
Ahead 19 as the baseline turnaround from the veteran Tobias Harris, making his second stint
with Detroit and making the most of it.
Brooks working baseline on Harris.
Puts the pass across the floor.
Open shooter Allen.
Extra pass to Gillespie.
Sidestep to the left and cash it in for the three.
You know, I'm OK with it.
Well, he was OK with it that game.
He just knows against this team, only 23-point attempts is not going to be good enough.
Because Jalen Durant, like, straight away from downtown, Gillespie.
And the Suns came in here.
24-89 from beyond the arc for the last three games.
Is Cade Cunningham able to get to the basket?
Cunningham shooting about 33% from downtown this season.
Grayson Allen from off Jefferson.
And the three ball flowing early.
A great early sign here.
When these two teams met back a few weeks ago for the Suns 30.
Now pocket pass inside.
And Jalen Durant stacking more points for a Phoenix turnover.
Connor Gillespie hits the deck.
He comes up holding that right wrist.
He's got it heavily taped.
Went through, draws heavy traffic.
Results in a Detroit turnover.
Grayson thought about throwing that to Mark Williams.
Glad he didn't.
Cunningham put on his heels by Allen.
It'll take the little five-foot pull-up as the Suns had as a team Tuesday night.
The Suns force another mix.
Here comes Brooks.
Seven early, make it nine.
And this is exactly the kind of pace the Suns want.
He's really his dad.
His dad helps out a lot.
So he's got to give his dad a lot of credit.
Williams goes up.
Forced another miss.
But Darian Durant again.
Rebound tapped out.
Controlled by Goodwin.
Goody on the push up the floor.
Finds a trailing Allen behind the strike.
Splashes it home.
Grayson Allen ran right next to him.
And let him know he was there.
Suns have already made as many threes in the first six and a half plus minutes as they did.
Yeah, he had 15 points.
As O'Neal with a little teardrop won't get it.
Osa with the rebound.
Kicks it back out to Allen.
Who cashes in from downtown again.
Channeling that 7 of 29 from Detroit a few weeks back.
Allen fighting inside with Cunningham.
Finds the cutting Isaiah Stewart who just checked into the game.
And once again right at the rim.
Perfect fit.
His teammates have embraced that side of him.
And it certainly helped evolve their game.
As Cade Cunningham knocking down the long two in the face of.
Yeah, the Pistons bench ended up getting the better of the Suns bench in that meeting.
Back at Detroit 40-22.
They outscored them.
We mentioned Jaden Ivey.
One of his rare double digit games this season.
His minutes per game has been down.
And again Jalen Duren.
Just in there 10 of 12 inside the paint.
Courtesy of Duren.
Allen side to side working on Ivey.
Goes to the little pull up.
Won't get it.
Oso inside to clean it up.
What happened with Grayson with that move.
Drew the defenders toward him.
And then allows Oso to get better inside position.
Recovered.
Oso hustled back into the hands of Bouye.
And Bouye hands.
As he went right at Stewart.
Flipped it into the left for the finish.
Bouye gets Ivey on his hip.
On the fade.
Goody.
With a put back.
He had 12 rebounds there in Detroit.
Jenkins able to get to the left hand.
And he goes inside with a strong finish.
Dunn finds livers.
For the shot clock.
Bouye.
Gillespie.
Got the shot and the foul.
Take a look at that just to see.
Very close.
So four point play for Collin Gillespie.
Still to their biggest lead now.
Already seven made threes.
Here Jenkins able to slip into the paint.
He's trying to score.
It's pretty obvious.
He dribbled the shot clock.
Guerrero kept it alive.
The Suns get in the early hustle plays.
Guerrero squares up across the floor to livers.
Touch pass.
Shot clock winding down.
Corner hit.
Sun to the rebound.
Up the floor comes Bouye.
Bouye shaking Ivey out of his shoes.
Goes with the runner.
But Oso there to clean it up.
And Jamie Bickerstaff has seen enough.
To have Chuck the legend in Hall of Famer for him to say my name
and see the hard work I put in.
He said it's definitely paying off.
The Suns are really making this Detroit defense.
Phoenix run.
And Jamie Bickerstaff going back to some of his starters.
Cunningham back out there with Harris.
Here is Beef Stew who's able to muscle it up inside.
And we'll get the and one opportunity.
Here is Brooks.
Nine for his quarter points.
He wants this matchup.
On Stewart.
Yeah.
And that's why he wants it.
You can tell.
Brooks a dozen for Allen.
And ten for Gillespie.
Cunningham fading to his left.
Knocking down the triple.
And that three ball back for him tonight.
Everett Phoenix in a season low ten point game.
Brooks matched up on Stewart again.
Goes a little jump hook on it.
Come on man.
Stop.
Stewart didn't see that one coming.
Charles Barkley at home like yeah my boy Dylan.
That's why he's an all star.
Robinson.
I can only see the people close to me.
You only got 15 feet.
You think I was spending my time trying to look at you.
Good one with a steal.
Up the floor comes O'Neal.
Cunningham.
Tied up.
Just able to get it out of his hands.
Inside to Durant.
Seven of seven.
Cunningham right up into the waistband of Brooks.
Just the way he likes it.
Dylan on the fade.
He just said I'm taking it.
Something tells him and us
that you're going to need that challenge later.
Durant.
First miss of the night.
Right at the rim.
It turns into a quick offensive putback.
Long distance eating.
Allen to Mark White.
Racing at six assists the other night.
That's the prettiest so far here tonight.
His second.
Cunningham.
Loops it on the baseline.
Brooks.
Dribbling past the double-team.
Tough contested pull-up.
Doesn't matter.
That's the villain.
Thompson kicks it back outside.
Again, there we go again.
If you're going to foul,
you've got to...
There's a trap here.
You've got to be ready to get to the open spot.
For the shot clock.
Sidestep three.
He is delivering inside.
Outside.
People might think I'm crazy.
I know we're up 19.
Let's close it out right here.
That's an open shot.
That's a relaxed opportunity
they just got.
In the media room.
This first five minutes
is very important.
We saw the Suns with a 16-point lead
against Detroit
on their home floor.
And it was Detroit who was able to walk them down
and then the fourth quarter.
Brooks able to split.
Drops it off inside to Williams.
Comes in high and hard on that one.
But why didn't Dillon grab the ball?
I'm not quite sure.
Grant will.
Also did it four times.
On the pull-up.
That's just been like a layup for him.
Unbelievable.
Inside that paint.
26 now for Brooks.
Durant turns a corner
gets right to the basket.
Timeout Phoenix.
Detroit has outscored the Suns
and start this quarter 7-2.
O'Neal run up
the three-point line.
Takes a peek inside.
Nice ball fake for Royce.
Suns nearly got the steal there on Durant.
Harris trying to
back down on O'Neal.
Able to shoot it up and over Williams.
Brooks working on Harris.
He hits the deck.
No foul call. Back comes Detroit
off the miss.
Thompson finds Harris.
Quarter 3. Got it.
Dillon just take that jump
right there to the head.
Cunningham all the way to the basket.
Timeout Phoenix.
Collin on the three-point line.
Pocket pass to Williams. Has it stripped by Robinson.
And Williams hits the deck.
Trying to race back. Cunningham.
Floater in the lane.
He has come to life here to start this third quarter.
Allen off the inbound.
Squares and fires the long three.
Long rebound into the hands of Brooks.
Quickly finds himself double teamed.
Jumps the pass out to Allen.
Steps in another foot. That's all he needed.
Brooks shoots it up over Stewart.
That's all he needed.
And Stewart, he's leaning.
And he's almost open it goes in.
Cunningham on the spin.
Suns turn him over.
Bouye racing to the basket.
Glides to the basket.
Brooks working on Holland.
Holland long arm, strong body.
Dillon with the runner.
He is in the villain bag.
Rebounding advantage tonight.
28-24.
Bouye left wide open.
Back tap by Iguodoro again.
Brooks lines it up.
Splashes it home.
That could very well be.
Bouye again extending that defense on Jenkins.
Jenkins wants to score the ball.
Right now he just wants to get rid of the ball because
Bouye has been right up in his waistband.
Harris sticks it in the corner three
right in front of the Suns bench
and lets him hear about it.
Can't get that one. Suns unable to get rid of the rebound.
Duncan Robinson, the Suns have been able to
keep him in check tonight.
Had 19 in their first meeting.
Force him off the line.
He'll go with the teardrop.
That's all he needed.
He's got seven.
Gillespie gets the handoff.
Gets the screen.
They're not paying much attention to him as a scorer.
And again, right there.
Bad exchange. Results in a Phoenix turnover.
Stewart taking it right to the basket.
Timeout Phoenix.
Cunningham finds Jenkins
with a corner look.
Won't get it. Rebound Allen.
The feed up top to the big man.
Sprinting down the floor.
He runs like a Powell forward
on that wing.
Royce up the Williams screen.
He wanted to throw it to Mark Williams
but he couldn't get it to him.
From the corner. Royce had it ripped away.
Brooks on the drive.
Inside with the score
of 40-piece.
On the road,
including most recently at Denver
in a two-point affair Tuesday night.
Stewart on the backdoor.
Cuts. Hammerson down.
Detroit 23 here tonight
including 9 of 9
from the line.
Suns 23 of 28
from the strike. Robinson gets the screen.
Gets the three ball.
The Suns have done a good job on him though.
The results
speak for themselves.
Stewart.
How about the block from Dylan Brooks?
Gillespie.
Relocates.
There's the three ball.
Flashdown.
And get stronger
in our coordination.
He'll grab those rebounds.
And look, I know that there have been some
Suns fans who have expressed
frustration because the Suns rookies
The Pistons came in here 13-5
when facing teams over
500. That was the best mark of the NBA
tonight.
They'll leave town 13-6.
40-piece
for you tonight. A new
career high. How were you able to set
the tone offensively tonight?
I was just getting to my spots.
Stuff I work on every day.
And then just kept going through it.
Guys like this feeding me the ball.
Tell everybody, we have two all-stars
on our team. This man's
an all-star. Get your phones out. Start
voting.
Real talk. But you know, my
teammates, my coaches, trusting my
work, trusting my
shooting,
my scoring ability.
This comes fluid.
Did you know that you were at 36
when you went to the line in the third quarter
to shoot those two? Knowing you needed to
knock those down?
I'm just in a flow state.
Just trying to keep scoring.
Keep playing hard.
Not give in to the fatigue.
Try to win the game.
Being in that flow state, just for you,
what is it about this Suns team and also
Coach Ott's system that has just been able
to unlock your scoring this season?
Just the trust.
Not getting mad at shots. Trying to coach it
to be in the right places at the right time.
And then ultimately try to
increase my playmaking as well.
Especially with Book and Jalen out.
Let's keep it going. Let's keep it rolling.
And finally, I got my hands on the
Dylan the Dylan t-shirts
going out
tonight too. But just for you, what did it
mean to have a night like you did
with the Suns and this fan base supporting
you? You got a standing ovation
too. Yeah, I didn't want to disappoint
and
lose on my Dylan night.
Appreciate the Suns
for making the shirt
for me and let's go.
Thanks so much. Thank you.
