This is a great recipe to try if you have never cooked with dal or lentils before. A great protein rich healthy meal ready in 15 minutes. Once you have tried this you can cook with other varieties of dhal too.
Hello and welcome back to my channel. I'm back with another quick healthy recipe everyday food.
Thank you for all the love on the last few recipes. I have realized that you like impromptu whatever I cook for my family
which actually is most of my videos and none of them are overly produced. I just shoot on my phone.
It's my home kitchen and it's very very simple straightforward stuff.
I can talk about this while I'm cooking. Let's get cooking. I am going to make a tadka dal
and this is the dal that takes the least amount of time. So it should be on your plate in 15 minutes.
You can serve it with rice, roti, whatever you like. Let's get cooking.
Before that, you know, don't forget to subscribe. Spread the joy guys. Share it with your friends and family.
So let's do this. So like I mentioned, this is the dal that takes the least amount of time to cook.
It's called Masoor dal in Hindi and red lentils in English as in in the shops in UK.
So I am going to take around 250 should be good for four people.
Any leftovers can go in the lunchbox tomorrow with rice. So first I'm going to give it a quick wash.
Once washed, I'm going to add three times the water. It doesn't need to be exact but basically around 700 or so ml of water will go in.
And I'm adding boiling water so it cooks even quicker.
If you have an extra five minutes, you can just add tap water and bring it to a boil.
Now adding a teaspoon of salt and a teaspoon of turmeric.
And now you can go on. Now this will obviously start cooking straight away because it's boiling water.
I am nearby at this minute because I'm going to prep for the tadka.
Yeah, this shouldn't take long at all.
So I'm going to just put this and just put half the lid because it does come to a boil and it boils over.
So I'm just going to do that. Hopefully it'll stop boiling it over.
Right, let's get on with the tadka ingredients.
For the tadka, I'm going to get a couple of onions, not massive, just small, medium sized onions.
And I'm just going to roughly chop them up. Not too roughly, not too finely, just chop them up however you like.
So this is all already just bubbling away.
My onions are done. I am going to chop up one tomato and some garlic cloves as well.
Back to the dal. I was just saying that this dal usually takes around eight to ten minutes to cook.
Look, what I was saying, it usually comes to the and sometimes the wooden spoon does help.
But if it if it's very high heat, then actually nothing can save it from.
I don't want to dirty the hob. Just a quick stir and I'll cover it up again.
You can probably hear the dal bubbling away in the background.
I've got two fat little garlic cloves.
I'm just going to chop it up and I've got one nice plump tomato that I am going to chop it up as well.
So I'm making the most of the time while the dal is cooking.
Start cooking the onions on the other hob while the dal is still bubbling away.
You can make this vegan. You can keep ghee out.
But if I have got ghee at home, then I prefer to make tadka in ghee.
So I'll add a heaped tablespoon of ghee and then I'm just going to add drizzle of olive oil to it.
Any oil basically, just so it doesn't kind of burn.
A couple of tablespoons of oil and a couple of tablespoons of ghee and that should be enough.
Once that has heated up, add a teaspoon of cumin seeds and let them sizzle nicely.
These are just the onions to begin with.
My dal is almost done and it's not even been 10 minutes, not even been 8 minutes.
Perfect. Perfect. You want the dal to break up or beginning to break up.
That's how you get the best and the most flavor.
OK, I've turned this off. I'm just going to finish the tadka now.
The garlic. A minute with the garlic.
Next, the tomatoes. And I just need to kind of slightly soften them up.
Right, so we are almost ending the tadka.
I'm going to add lots of coriander and I'm also going to add a little bit of red chilli.
This could be according to your taste, how much you want.
I'm going for one teaspoon. That looks so good. Beauty.
Right, now dal has been done. I didn't add any extra water and I think that is enough.
It does get, it does thicken up once it starts to cool down.
I'm going to add around 100 ml in this pan and I've added boiling water again.
Now a thorough mix. And this doesn't need to be cooked any longer.
So I can get this out in a bowl.
So I'm just serving myself tablespoons of this dal.
Like I said in the start of the video, you can serve it with rice, you can serve it with roti, paratha.
A slice of sourdough. But whatever you do, try it guys.
Because it's so healthy. You saw it took minutes to make.
You know, whatever's left, take it for lunch tomorrow.
That's what I'm going to do. Send it for lunch.
Mmm. What's not to like? Wholesome, comfort, healthy.
Mmm. Delicious.
I hope you'll try this. Let me know your thoughts and comments.
Hope you're enjoying these healthy meals in 15 minutes.
And hope you're trying them at home.
I'll see you back here with another new recipe very soon. Till then, bye.
