Trump Says He Won't Use Force to Take Greenland

President Trump speaking at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland this morning, he restated his desire to take control of Greenland, saying the island is critical to national security. The president clarified that he's not planning to forcefully take over Greenland. Take a look. Because people thought I would use force. I don't have to use force. I don't want to use force. I won't use force. All the United States is asking for is a place called Greenland, where we already had it as a trustee, but respectfully returned it back to Denmark not long ago after we defeated the Germans, the Japanese, the Italians and others in World War II. We gave it back to them. The president previously declined to rule out the use of force to acquire Greenland. Trump explained that the island lies between the U.S., China and Russia, saying that's it's crucial to national security. The president also said he does not want the island for its rare earth minerals. He said they lie hundreds of feet below thick ice sheets, suggesting it would be hard to extract them. Trump also touched on developments in Europe, criticizing large-scale immigration. Perhaps how you too and the places where you come from can do much better by following what we're doing, because certain places in Europe are not even recognizable, frankly, anymore. They're not recognizable. The president says he loves Europe, but added that the continent is not heading in the right direction. Trump said illegal immigration and large government spending are among the major problems that have to be resolved there.
