This is all so overwhelming
Hello and welcome to Lingster Academy
I'm your German teacher Julia and we're kicking off the new year with this question
Where should I start learning
It's all so overwhelming and my mind is a complete mess
No matter what level you're at right now
After watching this video you'll know exactly what to
learn giving you a clearer structure and less stress
You'll also receive my free study plan and plenty of practice materials
Besides why does learning German overwhelm you so much
Does what you're currently learning actually help you at all
And my honest answer is possibly not
Because many people don’t realize that German isn’t
just about grammar and vocabulary but about skills
You're learning German to actively use it and communicate with others in real-life situations
You don’t need to tackle all the tenses first then the four cases and then the subjunctive
What you need is first and foremost answer to the questio
Do you need to speak with clients at work Then practice client
conversations Do you need to write emails Then practice writing emails
Are you preparing for an exam Then practice with the sample tests for this exam
Keep making the same mistakes over and over
Then correct exactly these mistakes so you don't make them again
That might sound trivial but if I want to learn how to play football
Then I'm not going straight to the gym to build muscle am I
I grab a ball and start practicing playing football
And maybe I’ll finally head to the gym only when
I realize I need stronger legs or more stamina
Do you understand what I'm trying to say To
truly improve you must start where you want to be
And remember you won't accomplish everything all at once
You need small but effective steps then you'll truly improve
It's also extremely important to actively use your
German You don't need to be perfect or error-free
But you should regularly take action instead of just
preparing—apply what you've
learned So now my question to you
Pick one thing you want to improve over the
next four weeks and write it in the comments
But please don't write anything just to improve my German
Be specific—pick one skill not a grammar topic
Alright now you've set your first goal
What happens next
Of course you need to know your current level
And for that you'll take a placement test
You can get it free from me at linkster de
After the test you'll receive your
results so you'll know where you
went wrong and that way you can immediately correct a few mistakes
and have you already learned something new today
Now the big question
How do we actually learn something new the fastest
so that we can remember them long-term
Learning German always involves four elements
Reading listening writing and speaking
To improve quickly you should train all four simultaneously
Take a look at this diagram and you'll immediately understand what I mean
We best retain information when we actively apply it So
if you say something write it down and do it in some way
You'll remember up to 90% of it and store it long-term in your brain
In practice this might mean you thoroughly research
a topic and then explain or demonstrate it to someone
Also if you only read something you'll remember just
about 10% of it—don't you prefer getting 90% instead
Generally speaking the more contact you have with the language and
the four elements—reading listening writing and speaking—the better
It's also much more effective to practice a little
every day than to study five hours once a week
Your brain is like a muscle and the more
often you train it the faster it grows
How can you now practically apply this to your own situation and create a study plan
Click the link below this video to access my free study package
There you'll find your study plan along with plenty of materials to practice
Fill your learning plan with the goals you have for the next few months
Also write down how many hours per week you can commit
And then just start without making excuses Put your
phone down gather the materials relevant to you and begin
And don't forget: reading listening writing speaking reading
If you want to study for 2 hours you can read for 30 minutes
That's ideal for making quick progress
To practice speaking on your own you can read texts aloud
This helps you produce accurate German and
improves your pronunciation and speaking speed
If you're experiencing writer's block simply copying
a German text can help you move forward—this too can beneficial
The fastest and most effective approach of course is when you'
re guided personally and corrected along the way toward your goal
