Miley Cyrus chats with THR on the carpet at the 2026 Palm Springs International Film Festival and reveals she still has yet to watch 'Heated Rivalry' but it's on her watch list. Plus, she talks about celebrating 'Avatar: Fire and Ash,' going to the movies, celebrating Hannah Montana this year and more.
Happy New Year.
Happy New Year to you.
Are you guys talking about heated rivalry?
Yes.
This has been like every conversation I've had today has started with this.
I have not watched yet, but I will and I'm aware of how much I'm going to be obsessed.
Are you prepared to go into a psychosis?
I'm ready.
I'm totally ready.
Yeah.
I'm in a psychosis right now because you're standing in front of me.
Congratulations.
Happy New Year.
Are you a New Year's resolution person?
I was just saying, I think of my life in quarters, so I like to kind of think about who and what
I want to be or do within the first quarter of that year and don't think too far ahead
or you end up committing to all these things that, you know, maybe that's not what is planned
for you ultimately.
So within my first quarter, it's just celebration and kind of tying up what I've started with
Avatar.
We were just talking about the Hannah Montana anniversary, just really about everything
that has been really taking time to honor that and then thinking in the back half of
the year, what could be.
First of all, what is, is this Avatar phenomenon?
I mean, it is obviously a global box office phenomenon.
You're part of one of the biggest movies, which will go down as one of the biggest movies
of all time.
How attached to you are to box office performance or numbers or data?
Do you even look at that?
That's one I haven't paid attention because I was pretty sure it was going to be okay.
For myself, that isn't really the inspiration or the goal.
I love when we all win together because it just, it's a nice way to tell everyone that
their hard work is seen.
But otherwise, if it's the finish line, I think you'll always feel pretty unfulfilled.
It's such an epic movie going experience.
And I was thinking of you, like, can you go to the movie and even, can you do sneak in
my closet just to go to the movies?
No, I just, I, to watch a movie, if you've not seen Avatar, which I'm thinking you have
that it's, it's a long film, so you got to be properly, you know, dressed and designed
and you want to look hot going and leaving the theater.
But I don't want to look hot for three and a half hours.
So I pack all my little cozy things and I sneak all the food in.
Yeah, I bring my own.
Yeah, you know, actually that was one nice thing that James did for me.
He got me all my snacks for the first viewing and then I was in.
Yeah.
Last question.
Seeing this, listening to this song in this movie just made me think of how spoiled we
used to be to be able to have a Miley Cyrus song in a Miley Cyrus movie that you acted
in and it made me long for those days.
Will you act again?
And will you have, will you, I mean, first of all, I'd love to, and I hope some brilliant
mind in here has the right thing for me.
Let's see.
Remind them.
If someone genius comes by, be like, Hey, Miley is here.
And if they say to me, what, what does she want to do?
Just tell her, well, what do they want me to do?
I would love to go into someone else's world.
I'm the boss in my own world.
Yeah.
And then last question, we're one year out from the fires.
I always think of you as like the Malibu person.
How are you feeling one year later?
Because you lived through this a couple of times and it's still sensitive.
Well, I love how resilient our city is and watching everyone rebuild.
And I think the community last year that we saw everyone pull together and pull through,
it's nice now to kind of see everybody with their feet on their, you know, on the ground
a bit more.
It's so, uh, you just get so unstabilized and I don't think in a year you really can
be grounded again.
So just a lot of peace for the families that aren't going to feel rebuilt for a long time.
