Hey guys, I'm John with Hops and Brews and today we're gonna be checking out which Guinness is the best option for you
so Guinness
Probably the most famous stout out there
Everyone thinks it's actually a really high percentage ABV beer. It's not it's actually under 5% and except for this one
It's actually a kind of a light beer and they kind of get it confused thinking all stouts are supposed to be creamy
No, that's the nitrogen that's in them. So yeah
But let's go ahead and check out the subtle differences between all of these Guinnesses and possibly which is the best for you
But before we get into it, remember to hit like and subscribe on this channel if you like this type of content
All right, let's get into it. All right, so I got four different Guinnesses here
Um, let's go ahead and take a look what we got. First off. We have the Guinness stout draft
This is the classic one you will see with the nitrogen widget inside
Second you have well the exact same beer, but it's in a glass bottle and there's no nitrogen widget. It is
Carbonated however with just nitrogen it is recommended via the package to drink straight from the bottle
Next we have Guinness extra stout
This is actually a higher percentage ABV coming in at 5.6%
Next we have Guinness's brand new Guinness zero a non alcoholic Guinness
Okay, so let's go ahead and pop one of these open and just go for it, right?
Okay, let's check this out. Um, it looks like a great-looking Guinness beer
The one thing with this can is they do recommend from the can to pour it into a glass
And then you let that
Cascading nitrogen go down to create this nice creamy head so that when you drink it
There's a little bit of this creaminess at first and this nice roastiness at the back end. Let's see how well that actually tastes
Yeah all around
Nice, it's a light solid stout
the interesting thing actually about Guinness is that if you look closely every batch is
Slightly a different ABV. This one comes in at 4.1 percent
I've seen some come in at 4.2 and 4.3. So check the can that's kind of a neat little thing
But overall it's great. You get this nice light creaminess if you want at the front you can just sip the head
And at the back end it's just nice roastiness
The one thing they do say about the nitrogen though, it kind of makes it have this flat tasting flavor
To me it kind of makes it a little bit more drinkable because you don't have this overly bubbly
carbonated drink
It makes it actually go down easier. There's less gassiness. It's kind of nice overall nice roasty light beer
It's not heavy. It's not thick like a lot of people say don't know why that rumor goes about
Let's go ahead and check out the bottle version of this beer
Recommended actually not to pour into a glass coming in at 4.2%
Now even though I poured some in a glass I wanted you to see the difference
So this is straight out of a nitrogen can with the nitrogen widget. This is just nitrogen carbon put into a bottle
So the head right away is a lot different if you care about that kind of stuff
But for review's sake they did tell us to drink out of the bottle. So that's what I'm gonna do
it definitely has
more of a carbonated
Crispy bubbliness to it versus the nitrogen can one pouring it out curious
Yes
This isn't actually as smooth. I kind of do prefer the can widget
Pour it out. I don't know what it is. It almost has a more flavor to it
The nitrogen just smooths it out so much more
Not that big of a fan of this for some reason though. The glass does taste colder
These were kept in the fridge at the exact same time
Maybe the fact that the bottle is a thicker glass keeps the beverage cooler longer
I do like the feel of the glass too. That's cool. I feel fancier drinking out of this
Alright, let's go ahead and try the Guinness extra stout the highest ABV they have of this right now
Now right away the big difference I see is this looks like a normal carbonated stout I
Looked it up and it said all Guinness's are carbonated with nitrogen
not co2
This does not look like that. This looks like co2 to me. I mean the bubbles are just
Thick look look at the comparison here
Smells delicious though. Tell you what does smell chocolatey. It didn't say whether to drink it from the bottle or the glass. So let's try both
That's a much better flavor. I'll tell you that much. That is a very
Robust for a Guinness. That's a nice basic stout delicious
but however
Again, similar to the bottle one. It does taste like it's co2 maybe almost like 50 50, but
It doesn't taste as carbonated as say, you know your standard lager or IPA, but I
Do taste like this crispy bubbliness of co2?
Versus the standard can with the widget. I
Do love the roastiness of this though. This has so much more flavor
There's not a creamy flavor, but it's this nice roasty flavor and coming in at five point six percent
It's a nice stout. I mean technically this would be a porter but still
roasty beer
now, let's go see if
the non-alcoholic
Nitrogen widget version can compete with any of these alcoholic kind
All right, this looks similar to the traditional can that we got to
The head is thick and creamy. However, the cascading effect didn't last as long
That's an interesting thing and take a look if you can see each head has gone down faster and faster and faster
That's interesting
but
non-alcoholic Cheers
hmm
Now I remember reviewing this and I liked it
This however now that I can distinctly taste all of them and gone to the non-alcoholic version. I taste the differences
They're subtle they are very very subtle if you started the night out with this you probably wouldn't notice
But the fact that I'm ending on this I noticed the flavor. There is less roast
You know, there's almost a slight sour tartness to this
however
The creaminess is almost on par or even better. I might say than the standard original in the can
There is a funkiness that's different in comparison. Let's but let's go ahead and try it out
Yes, there's actual roast
Artificial roast that's what it tastes like this tastes like an artificial roast malt
This tastes like real roasted malt, but I love the head on this. This is just sick and
Creamy, it's awesome. How much does this detract from the rest?
Not that much actually not that much. This is pretty darn good
In fact, let's go ahead and compare it to the other one
Great roast tell you what
See, this is the least best this one in my opinion
This has a more traditional flavor than this but the fact that this is zero alcohol and tastes pretty darn good
Kind of brings it up a notch for me. So what Guinness is right for you? Um
All depends wait, what are you going for? You know, are you doing a st. Patrick's Day run?
Honestly, the only one I would say away from on st. Patrick's Day is probably this one
I'm betting this one is more expensive because it was at the store and the glass and out of the four
the least exciting
honestly
If you're looking for a creamy smoothness
The standard you can never go wrong with it if you're a DD or non-alcoholic, but still want some good flavor
the non-alcoholic
Actually can trick you and you could probably be drunken up and start just drinking this and trick your friends to just pour that into
a glass
You can probably get away with it. And even if your drunk friend grabs it be like this tastes like standard Guinness
But if you're looking for some good flavor the extra stout
same price as the standard
But has more that just traditional stout flavor because it's
Carbonated with CO2
More however, it's up to you to decide which Guinness is the best for you
Are you looking for your traditional Guinness to be creamy and smoothie?
Are you looking to be a little bit fancier to be like check out my glass bottle and don't mind spending that extra dollar on
It you want a little more alcohol and a little bit more robust flavor, or do you want to be?
Okay with night and not be wasted the next day. It's up to you
See you guys

Leave a comment or two. What's your favorite Guinness to have?
I know there are technically other versions of the Golden Gate Guinness out there
There's like the blonde and they made an IPA a long time ago and whatever but anytime someone says Guinness
They think dark roasty beer and these are the four that you always see all the time
Which is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below or is there a better one out there?
I need to review to put up against Guinness as the nitro stout
Let me know see you guys
