Glass Brewing: Chinese Tea Arts Workshop

Learn all about glass brewing in this Chinese Tea Arts Workshop, presented in celebration of International Tea Day 2023. Guided by Zou Yujia, a national tea specialist, this video introduces the elegant technique of glass brewing through one of China’s most famous green teas—Biluochun, from Suzhou, Jiangsu.
Biluochun has been enjoyed since before the Ming Dynasty and is renowned for its delicate aroma and natural sweetness. The glass brewing method highlights these qualities by using water at approximately 80°C and about 2 grams of tea leaves, allowing the tea to infuse gently without bitterness.
This traditional technique emphasizes keeping the tea leaves in the glass throughout the brewing process, gently stirring until the tea is ready to enjoy. The result is a smooth, sweet, and refined flavor that reflects centuries of Chinese tea culture.
In 2011, the Biluochun tea-making technique was officially included in the List of Representative Items of National Intangible Cultural Heritage, recognizing its cultural and historical significance.
