NASA is Facing Serious Problem on the Space Station after Russia Soyuz...SpaceX is Rescuing!
What a shame! Roscosmos just had to beg NASA for help, because they literally ran out of ways to launch their own Soyuz to the ISS. That means NASA will have to turn to SpaceX, since right now, nothing comes close to the reliability of the Dragon for a rescue mission. But here’s the problem: a Russian cosmonaut was recently caught secretly photographing sensitive SpaceX documents and smuggling them out.
So, will SpaceX even agree to use Dragon to help Roscosmos?
Let’s dive into today’s episode of Alpha Tech.
NASA is Facing Serious Problem on the Space Station after Russia Soyuz...SpaceX is Rescuing!
After the launch pad at Site 31 was damaged during the MS-28 mission, the only pad capable of sending Soyuz and Progress supply ships to the ISS, Roscosmos has revealed just how far they’ve fallen behind in the space race.
At first, they tried to calm the media by saying the pad would be repaired soon. But just a few days ago, after reassessing the situation, Roscosmos officials informed NASA that they would need at least four months to fix it.
Why so long? Because this launch pad was built with technology from more than 60 years ago. To restore it, they practically have to build a new one based on the original design. And that won’t be quick, once construction is done, it still needs to be fully tested. Realistically, the whole process could stretch to a year.

And the consequences showed up almost immediately. The Progress MS-33 cargo mission, originally scheduled for December 20, now has to be postponed until the pad is repaired.
This delay won’t impact Russian cosmonauts right away, the ISS has enough supplies for several months. But if Roscosmos can’t fix the situation quickly, this could turn into a major problem.
That’s why Roscosmos reached out to NASA. It wasn’t exactly ‘begging,’ but it was definitely a request for help during this period, they needed a cargo vehicle to support their cosmonauts on the ISS.
