The Unseen Work Behind Every GREAT Trail

Oh yeah. Look at this thing. It's looking good, eh? It's awesome.
There's a few steps I'm going to take when it comes to rebuilding a corner like this.
That's so crazy. It's like the tree like broke and went straight down. That is fresh. Yeah.
So slick right now. You're just kind of drifting around it. This berm right here has seen some
better days, but it's one of my favorite corners of all time when it's in good shape. It's at the
bottom of a long fall line section here, and all the erosion and rain lately has just worn it out
with high traffic. If you look, the tire marks are at the very top of the corner here. It's all
sandy. It's all falling apart. So I'm going to show you exactly what to do, and I'm going to
film this entire vlog, time lapses, riding clips, everything on the Insta360 Ace Pro 2. So if you
like this footage and you want to support me, check out the link in the description here. I
have links to it, and I'm also going to leave the settings for the time lapses and the settings for
riding footage in the description as well. All right, let's get into it. So my plan for this is
to really give it the ultimate catch. If we look at the setup, like I was saying, there's a nice big
long fall line section. So basically, if you choose not to brake very much, you're going to hit this
with a lot of speed. And right now it's just so flattened out. There's no apex to it. It's just
low right in the middle where the peak should be. And the entry and exit are lined up well,
but other than that, the whole thing needs some love. So there's a few steps I'm going to take
when it comes to rebuilding a corner like this. Number one, I'm going to rake everything out
around it. When I rake out the space surrounding it, I leave myself lots of room to work with
really nice dirt without a bunch of stuff mixed in there. Number two, once I'm done raking,
I'm going to take my tool and just cut into the ground and I'm going to make it lower in the
belly because there's a lot of dirt that's just been lifted up and raised up around here that
needs to go back onto the berm. So we're going to take, we're going to scoop, and as we're doing
that, we're going to make the corner steeper. So I'm going to take from the bottom of the corner,
add to the top, make everything steeper. The apex of the berm is the part of the corner
where you change direction the most. When I'm looking at this corner, that's going to be right
here. And you can see like it's really worn down. So this is going to need the most amount of work
and love right here. And I want to give it a really solid base as well. So this doesn't happen
again so easily. And once I give it a nice big solid platform, I'm going to square off the edges,
pack down the top. So there's a nice flat, strong top. And then we'll flat pack everything,
let it settle in. And then Josh and I are going to come back here and session this trail because
the top half of the trail has a lot of fresh work done to it. And having this berm rebuilt will be
the icing on the cake. So let's kick off the time lapses and watch the berm become reborn.
Okay, just trying to pack in that last little bit of loose stuff on the base of the corner. And
yeah, looking way better now. Let's take a look here. I kind of ran out of time. I've been at
this for three and a half hours, and I got to roll out pretty soon. But I got it like 90% of
where I want it. Let's look at like some of the imperfections here because I'm just being really
picky with my work. If you look at the shape of the top of the corner here, there is a bit of a
low dip here, which aesthetically is annoying me. Riding wise probably makes no difference.
No one's riding right at the top edge. And it's still the same height as the apex right here.
But yeah, just those little aesthetic things. Still some soft dirt, like I've packed this in
multiple times and it's still still coming loose a bit. So we're gonna let this settle in overnight
and then finish off the vlog with a session on this entire trail and blowing up this corner.
Gonna be fun. I made that the steepest point. So if you look at it from the side up close,
it's basically almost vertical right here. And then it tapers off on the exit.
And I think I might have wanted to hook the berm a little more inside at the exit,
but it still lines up really nice for the rest of the corner. So I think it's going to be good.
It's a major improvement from how it was before. It was just like
blown to bits and flattened out and you couldn't even hold the corner. So
this is a major improvement. Maybe I'll come back for another dig session and do some refinements.
This is the month to be working with this type of material because it's so sandy in the summer.
You can't do anything. And yeah, we're coming into winter really soon here and this is perfect.
I'm hoping we get some good rain overnight. This packs in even more and it's going to be
sick to ride tomorrow. Okay. So it's been a couple of days since digging. I'm here with Josh today
and we're going to see how the berms holding up because I haven't been here since working on this.
Wow. Look at this thing. It's looking good. Hey, that's awesome. Yeah. So it's holding strong.
There's like some tire marks, but yeah, it's only been like two days. Beautiful. And it's been
pretty rainy and warm the last couple of days. So yeah, things are going nice in here. Sick.
Yeah. So we're going to do, we're going to do a couple laps of the trail session, the sperm
and yeah, I'm pumped. I'm pumped. This was much needed. Yeah. It's quite a few tree,
like little sticks down. It's been pretty stormy this week. I'm looking at my line here
or the line of the corner. People's tar marks are pretty high. So that tells me that
my intuition was right with this being a bit low right here. It has that bit of a dip to it.
I think I need to come back here some other time and just stack that low spot a bit more.
It appears like the apex is right, right here. This is right where the direction's changing
for everyone. I was thinking it was going to be over here, but as you can see, the tar marks are
lower here. So yeah, the ideal build would be stock this some more, but yeah, I'm just curious
to see how it rides for myself. Start on some fresh trail work. Yeah. So I think that, that
last sperm hit it kind of late. Yeah. So go, go in and on the inside and then hit the end of it.
Yeah. Like everyone's hitting it. They're kind of riding it high and entering it early. I'm going
to like approach it entering it later because that's where like the peak of the rebuild is. I
want to see how it feels. Yeah. Yeah. Pretty wet out today, but it's nice still. December lap.
Here we go. That is fresh. Yeah. Smashing puddles. Oh, some sticks down. I'm actually
going to clear that. There's a lot of deep puddles today. Yeah, it's deep. It's so crazy.
It's like the tree like broke and went straight down. Is this the right bike? Yep. It's easy to
grab the wrong bike. They look the same, but they'll feel very different. Yeah. Okay. Back
into it. Yeah. Whoa. Oh yeah. That's fresh lip. Yeah. Okay. Here we are into the new berm
off the brakes. Oh yeah. That is nice. That feels way better. Hey. Yeah. I, it was soft. I,
I slid into it somehow. Really? Yeah. I got squirrelly in it. Before it was like,
there was nothing there to hold you in. I tried to hit it late and I think that's what happens.
My front tire sunk into the softness and it sent me a bit squirrelly. But I don't know,
other than the berm, that's not kind of what was standing out in my mind. It was like
all those other booters that are built up and running super nice. That really made it fun for
me. Yeah. It's kind of inspired me to fix that berm up. Cause that kind of helps complete the
Yeah. Cause it needed a, that finish on it. But yeah, the top six now they did a lot of work
to it this week. Yeah. Oh, it's slippery. Really leaned into it that time. Yeah. Look at the tar
marks. It's like a wave. Cause it's so slick right now. You're just kind of drifting around it.
Definitely needs to get packed down. It's soggy. I know. Really sunk into it.
Well, successful rebuild on this corner, but I think we should give it a rest for the day.
Let it, let it pack in before we make this worse. Cause it's already starting to rut from like,
yeah, just a few runs through it. Looks good down here, but maybe that's where most of the
weight's going. Yeah. So people are entering high and then they're still high at this point.
And if you look at the berm, it's got like a dip here. So I think if I like stacked another foot
high and kind of made more like clam chili right there, it'd be a really nice shape.
And you could like kind of go up and then down through the turn. That would be ideal. Yeah.
Let's let it pack in, let it soak in from all the rain and then go hit something else today.
Nice work. Yeah. Thanks. Really dark in here and I got the extra wide lens on the ACE Pro 2.
Stoked to see how this footage looks. Chunky and loose. Very loose. Okay guys, that's it for the
video. That was a really wet day out there. So stoked that the berm worked out. Need some
improvements, but that's what it, that's what goes into rebuilding a corner and sessioning it. So
hope you enjoyed that one. Hope you found it kind of fun. And yeah, we had a good time out here
today. So sick, wet December runs. All right. Thanks again for watching. See you later. Peace.
