GREENLAND - Hiking The Blue Trail Ilulissat

Hiking in the Arctic Circle may sound a little bit weird, but the Blue Trail in Greenland was one of the most memorizable hikes we have ever done, without any doubt. The Blue Trail starts here at these husky farms. It takes about two and a half hours to complete this trail in Ilulissat. The total distance of the Blue Trail is about seven kilometers. Blue dots mark the path. At the beginning of the hike you will be taken here into this narrow canyon to follow to the edge of the fjord. Take your waterproof shoes. At this moment it's June 15, which in my terms I would say it's summer, but not here in Greenland. You're gonna have to walk through the snow and ice probably all summer long. A short ascent is required to get to breathtaking viewpoints. What sets the Blue Trail apart is its profound sense of remoteness. Here you are far from the hectics of modern life, surrounded by the beauty of the Arctic wilderness. The absolute highlight of the trail are the colossal icebergs, a perfect opportunity to get up close to these frozen giants floating in the disco bay fjord. Rumors claim that the iceberg which clashed with the Titanic originated from here. Whether this is true or not, these massive icebergs are the main attractions of today's outdoor adventure. Have you ever been hiking while you have these kind of views? Greenland is, for now, a difficult place to get to. However, in the near future, new opportunities for air traffic will make it more easier to travel here. In our opinion, Ilulissat was the most impressive place to visit in Greenland. It took us way longer than two and a half hours, but we completed the Blue Trail in Ilulissat, and what an experience that was. Amazing, guys!
