A Day In The Life of a Dairy Farmer

Good morning everyone, so we're just at the farm today, got the cows about and stuff. Thought I'd do a day in the life today, as a first kind of like proper video, so I'll show you what we're getting up to every day on the farm, and get some nice shots and I hope you enjoy. Today we've just chased the cows into the collecting yard, going to scrape the beds off and bent them up with some sawdust, I'll show you that now. There we go, I've just scraped all the dirt and stuff off there, see they're nice and clean now with the scraper there, but now we're just going to get some sawdust bags and dust them all over, give them a coating of sawdust, so the cows have got a nice soft place to sleep and stuff, so that's good, and yeah, I'll see what we get up to next. So what you just saw there, that was someone putting the feed out for the cows, obviously I did that on another video back, but that was someone else that time, just thought I'd show you from the outside, so we usually have one person doing the feed and then about two people bedding up the cows and the calves and stuff like that, that's how we run it kind of. So now I'm just going to go and check if the cows, not the cows, the calves have enough feed and top them up, if they don't. So that has finished for the morning now, so I'm just going to get my dinner and then I think we're just going to chase the cows out for milking, ready to be milked, and the passage will be scraped and the beds will be raked and stuff, just thought I'd show you, here's all the tarps and stuff that we've just fed before, so they're looking well. There's a straw, so that's some straw that we keep, we just come in with the Manitou, you've seen it before, we just pick it up and drop it in, but yeah, so it's all going well here, and then I'll show you some bits and bobs of milking. Also, while we've been doing that, someone's been scraping the bottom of the tarp, obviously, and they're giving them some straw, so they're nice and clean, you can see there, something clean. Obviously it's quite windy, so you won't be able to hear me that well, but yeah, it's all going well. The cows are just starting to be chased out now, I think I'll just film that for you. I've got Moon, some friendly cows. So yeah, we're milking away, milk about three times a day, we start at five in the morning, finish about nine, start again at one, then we'll finish about four or five, then they'll start night milking at about eight, finish about half one. So yeah, three times a day, we're milking about 400 cows at the moment. Yeah, pig operation. Right everyone, last job of the day, just going to bed this carpen up, just make sure they've got plenty of straw. Put my cap there, hopefully you can see alright, see it's quite on, quite an upward angle, see it's good straw this, look at it, see what you want to see. I'll put it in that one there, tip it in now, that'll do, put the boom in, see for tomorrow I'll just kick this straw out and go from there. I've just come outside for a little bit, I thought I'd just show you the Manitou, here it is, obviously there's not been much tractor work today, but yeah, in a few upcoming videos there will be, yeah, see there it is, 2011. So yeah, I'm thinking of doing videos every Tuesday and Thursday, uploading them about one o'clock UK time, so that's alright, and then obviously Survival Roleplay, that's not on this channel anymore, that's on Keep Calm and Run A Dairy Farm FS, videos on there every Saturday and Sunday at 1pm, so watch out for them. So yeah, there's the Manitou, bit grubby but does as well.
