BEST Fridge for Overlanding | Iceco APL55 Full Review

[Music] what's going on guys we are back with another video and today's video is going to be a little bit different than your off-roading and overlanding videos that are typically on this channel today's video is going to be a review video of our newest gear for the truck and that is our isaco AP 55 now this fridge was graciously given to us by icle in a collaboration we're doing with them and uh is upgrading our previous icio fridge which we bought uh about 3 years ago and have been using that fridge which was the JP 50 uh for the last 3 years on all of our adventures and that fridge has been absolutely Flawless so we're super excited to try out this fridge we've already gone on one Tri with it and it's been fantastic the reason we wanted to upgrade to this fridge uh biggest thing was having a fridge and a freezer option which this is a dual zone fridge so you can either have it all either a fridge a freezer or all a fridge or have there's a divider that goes in the middle and you can have a fridge and a freezer which is a huge uh thing for us for our longer trips if you want to freeze certain things this does it the other thing is this fridge is also a little bit larger in capacity so for those longer Overland trips that we do do and plan to do uh we don't have to stop at the grocery as frequently so let's dive into all the features this fridge has and uh run a few tests all right so jumping into our first test that I wanted to do is the fridge has not been on and is pretty much at ambient temperature inside the fridge and it's about 80 85° outside right now I wanted to turn it on on and see how fast it cools down and how how much power it pulls trying to cool the fridge down so I have a stopwatch here on my phone I'm going to go ahead and turn on the fridge and start the stopwatch and right now the fridge side is 87° inside and the freezer side is 82 so I'm going to have the uh fridge set to 33 and we'll have the freezer side set to 0° F and uh we're starting we're already 24 seconds in and see how long it takes to cool down from these temperatures so we'll see you in a few all right as you can see here the fridge as it's we're running our test and it's cooling down um it is currently pulling almost 98 Watts as it's trying to cool down the fridge and freezer from our test now again this is on Max efficiency mode so it's going to be working as hard as it can to cool the fridge uh this again this is cooling from the heat so it's not essentially maintaining the cool it's cooling down the fridge to temperature so it's pulling about 98 Watts so I've I've seen it as low as 94 watts and uh we just Peak there at 100 Watts right there 101 it flashed for a bit second but just a reference point for anybody who has those external battery packs if you are cooling it down from you know having it not on just something to keep in mind all righty so the results are in for the fridge and the fridge side took uh to get to 33° fah took 39 minutes to cool down and the freezer side to get down to 0° took uh about an hour and 15 minutes so not terrible and then once the wattage pull was once it's cooled itself down was pulling to keep it cool about 30 to 40 Watts so just keep that in mind once it actually cools down it's only pulling about 30 40 Watts when the compressor turns on to keep the fridge/freezer cool now going into some of the features this fridge has so as all isos they have their amazing compressors that are imported from Germany and have a 5year warranty you heard that right 5year warranty on their compressors so they they truly stand behind how good the compressors are now if you can hear right now the compressor is actually on and it is very quiet it is a very quiet compressor when we're in here when the fridge is on you barely even notice that the fridge and freezer are on because that's how quiet these compressors are uh other features of this this does come in as you can see black we got ours in variant black they also have a silver the outside design of the fridge is made from stainless steel so it's not going to rust and it's going to be resilient to the elements outside uh some other features up here uh which I thought were very very cool uh it does have optional two USB ports that you can plug in and charge your any cell phones or anything like that uh from the fridge and then it also has both the DC side plug and the AC side plug here on this side as well so depending on how you want to orient your fridge um you could either plug it normally where it is in the rear how we have ours or if your setup is a little bit different and you needed to plug the fridge from the front it has the option to do both another really cool feature that this fridge has and comes with is it has Bluetooth connectivity so icle has an app that you can connect to to to your fridge and you just need to be in the immediate area of the fridge and you can control the temperature of the two different zones so I can adjust it here it also shows you a live timing of what the current temperature of the fridge and freezer are at the moment there's also a mode to change it from the max to the Eco Mode as well as you can turn it on and off so if I was in the truck driving and obviously this is back here if if I needed to adjust the temperature I could do so from inside my vehicle which is pretty cool so obviously the fridge has a a little LCD screen here that displays the temperatures and what everything is currently at and you can adjust each side cuz we have the Dual Zone set up uh which temperature you want you have your Max and eco mode here as well as a few other settings and there's also a little kind of ambient lighting um you can have it white or there's a blue mode like a pulsing blue mode I personally have it off but the little feature that you could have there there is huge upgrade from our jp50 that we had is these have some nice metal latches which feel really nice to open and close and then opening the fridge another fantastic feature that this fridge has is it's a soft closed lid so if you are reaching in to get something and you accidentally let this go uh it's not going to come slamming down on your head or hands or arms so super nice feature of it being a slow closed fridge now the only thing I wish uh this fridge had cuz obviously for our application with the the topper um without the topper being fully opened I can't open this lid all the way open um so sometimes it does start to close if you don't f it up I wish there was some type of kind of pull little pull system in place so that way you could uh have the fridge hold open while you're taking stuff in and out but that's just a little minor inconvenience uh the fridge does come with these baskets uh there's two of these types of baskets on the smaller side and then this is for the bigger portion of the fridge with the divider in the the what a cool feature about this fridge is you could have either side be the fridge or freezer depending on your preference obviously my preference is having the larger side be the refrigerator and the smaller side be the freezer but you can Orient it however you want now to switch it to single zone all you have to do is pull this little divider out and as soon as you automatically do that the fridge detects that you pulled the slider out and it then goes into single uh Zone mode so now it's all the fridge is all going to be one temperature at one temperature evenly uh my only con here is I wish there was a place to store this because if I'm on a road trip and originally when we leave I'm using it as a refrigerator but then later on we do a grocery stop Midway and I have some frozen Goods I don't have there's no place to store this I have to find a storage place I wish ISO maybe in a future design could possibly integrate this divider up in here maybe make some clips and make make the maybe make this a little bit wider where it could integrate here perfectly uh I think that would be a really cool feature but a minor inconvenience for a really cool product another really cool feature that this fridge has that I don't personally have this optioned out but it is an option for people that would need it they do since the sides are stainless steel they have an optional magnetic battery external battery that can magnetize through the side of the fridge and that battery can power the fridge if you don't have any power supply or anywhere to hook up the fridge there is that really cool option to have an external
