Witness a cheetah's hunt on the African savannah, complicated by a recent wildfire. The swift predator utilizes cunning tactics against a wildebeest calf, facing unexpected challenges. Observe the intense chase and the remarkable power displayed by both animals.
A calf appears. It's lagging behind its mother.
In three paces, the cheetah is in top gear and honing in on the target.
80 kilometers per hour is fast enough to catch the calf, but the attack is unusually dangerous.
Simultaneously, ramming the wildebeest shoulder, the cheetah hooks the calf's right front leg.
It's a dangerous maneuver for an animal of slender build like the cheetah.
If he were to sustain an injury, it could cost him his life.
In this case, the wildebeest breaks its leg, but it could so easily have been the other way around.
Interestingly, it is not the mother of the calf, but the herd bull that attacks the cheetah,
forcing it away from the calf. Realizing the calf is seriously injured, the cheetah renews his attack.
Once again, the herd bull counterattacks, saving the calf a second time.
Determined to catch the injured wildebeest, the cheetah persists.
