Oh my gosh, so many choices. Hey everybody, welcome to Triad Archery 101, Greg here. This is a new
series made specifically for those new to, for those looking to start in traditional archery.
This series will take you step by step, giving you a good base of information so you can make
an intelligent decision on your journey in the traditional archery. In this episode, we will
discuss, what is traditional archery? The first thing we need to know or ask is, what is traditional
archery? Unfortunately, there's no standard definition. You ask 100 people and you're gonna
get a massive variety of answers. In fact, it's easier to say what is not traditional archery
than what is. And this will help us define what is traditional archery in this video series. So
what's not considered traditional archery? Pretty much two things, compound bows and crossbows. Now
even that can be argued. Crossbows have been around just under 3,000 years and yet they're
not considered traditional. Now that fact right there tells us that age is not a consideration
in what is or is not traditional archery. So if it's not based on age, what was used years ago,
thousands of years ago, then what is it? Well, pretty much, but not absolutely, comes down to
what type of bow you use and how you use it. Now there are those who'll break it down to these
little subgroups, what type of wooden arrow you use, what type of fletching, how you grip the
string, and all that. But we're not gonna go with that. What we're gonna go with in this video
series is what the type of the bow you use would define traditional archery. Since most people will
see a bow and say, oh, that's traditional archery. So what's the definition? Well, for us, it's simple.
Traditional archery is where the bow has only one string with each end attached to the limb. The
string is then drawn and released using the hand. I know, I know, that's a very open definition. But
as I said, there's no one definition. We can nitpick this all day long. And remember, this
video is for beginners. So it's better to keep it simple, just like that. Within that simple
definition, there is a vast and varied world, rich in history, innovation, and diversity. In traditional
archery, you will find, find everything from primitive bows of the Amazon, to state-of-the-art
bows in the Olympics. From archers shooting from foot, standing, or running. Archers who shoot on
skis, or archers who shoot while on horse. Archers who hunt, archers who compete, or archers who do
both. Archers who use archery as a form of self-discovery, or archers who do it just for
recreation. Archers who do historical reenactments, to archers who are fantasy players. In the end,
what is traditional comes down to what you think it is. My advice to you is do what you like, call
it what you like, and never mind all the haters. It's sad to say, but there are plenty of them out
there on Facebook and the forums, and they will always be there, and they will always, if you let
them in, ruin it for you. So seek out those like-minded archers like you, and you'll find new
and rewarding friendships. And most importantly, you'll enjoy a long, fun-filled time in traditional
archery. With that out of the way, our next episode, we're going to cover the bow. All right, we're going to go
with many of the common terms to go with it. So thanks for watching. Don't forget to check out the
website right here, where you can find listings of 3D archery shoots, archery ranges, archery clubs,
