In the second part of the oral DTZ exam you should describe a picture, but how can you do that best?
I'll show you today. Let's start.
Hi, Alex here, the German insider, and today I'll show you what the second part of the oral exam looks like.
We describe two pictures together and you get a lot of useful tips for your preparation for the exam.
Support me with your like and subscribe to German Insider, because together we can learn German better.
The oral DTZ exam is an exam for two people. So you are partner A or partner B.
In the second part, partner A and partner B get two different pictures on a specific topic.
Your first task is to describe this picture.
For a good picture description you need locations. In the front or in the foreground.
In the foreground there are three plants on the table.
In the back or in the background.
In the background there is a sofa.
Left or on the left side.
In the front left I see three room plants.
Right or on the right side.
In the back right there is a blanket.
In the center or in the middle.
In the back in the middle there is a pillow.
Above and below.
Above behind the sofa you see a white wall.
First concentrate on facts.
Here you can help with questions.
Who, what, where, how, when and so on.
Let's take an example.
What do you see on the picture?
Who are the people?
What are they doing?
Where are they?
What is nearby?
In the foreground we see a woman and a boy.
They are sitting at a desk in front of a screen.
In the right hand the boy has a computer mouse.
And his left hand is on a keyboard.
The woman has a pen in her hand.
With the pen she shows the boy something on the screen.
In the background there is a large mirror.
On the left next to the mirror there is a plant.
And on the right side there is a shelf.
You can't see the shelf very well.
But on the shelf you can see a picture, a vase and a few more plants.
As you can see we often used local prepositions here.
Before the exam you should definitely repeat all local prepositions.
Have we described all the facts?
Not quite. Let's describe the people themselves.
What do the people look like?
What hair colors and hairstyles do they have?
What clothes do they wear?
The woman looks nice.
She has long brown hair and wears an orange blouse and an armband.
The boy has red hair, green eyes and he wears a blue shirt.
When describing the picture you should also say your opinion about the situation.
What do you think? What is the topic?
How old are the people?
Why are they sitting at the computer?
Are they learning or playing?
The picture is about the topic digital media, because the people are sitting at the computer.
The boy is about 10 years old and the woman is about 30.
In my opinion the boy is doing his homework at the computer.
It could be that this woman is his mother.
I think she is explaining something to him.
Maybe she wants to help him with his homework.
If you say your opinion, you can use special words and expressions.
About, about, in my opinion, it could be that, I think, maybe, and so on.
After describing your picture, the examiner asks you a few questions about the topic.
You answer and say which experiences you have had with this topic in Germany and in your home country.
The examiner can ask, for example, do you also have a PC at home or a laptop?
What do you normally do at the computer?
Or how long are you online every day?
The examiner wants to know how well you speak German.
Therefore, you should not answer the examiner's questions too briefly.
Here is an example.
Do you also have a PC at home, Mrs. Hohland?
No, I don't have a PC, but a laptop.
It is small, but very practical.
And what do you normally do on your laptop?
I often need the laptop for my work.
I read and write e-mails and surf the Internet.
I also like to learn German online.
There are many good exercises and learning videos on the Internet today.
Describe the picture, say your opinion and then talk about your experiences.
Done.
In the exam, you have about three minutes.
We will describe another picture together,
but first I have important words for you that you can use in your picture description.
When you describe the clothes, you can not only describe their color, but also different patterns.
For example.
How is the dress of this woman?
The dress is dotted.
The woman is wearing a dotted dress.
And how is the suit of this man?
The suit is carried.
He is wearing a carried suit.
How is the T-shirt of this woman?
The T-shirt is striped.
She is wearing a striped T-shirt.
And how is the shirt of this man?
The shirt is colorful and has a pattern.
He is wearing a colorful shirt with a rose pattern.
Was siehst du auf diesem Bild?
Wer ist das?
Was macht die Person?
Was trägt sie?
