Bonjour! We are getting ready for our 6th winter in the French countryside! We hope to finally have a comfortable and warm bedroom this winter and we are stocking up on new firewood. I love the winter days leading up to the solstice and mostly love knowing that we will soon be celebrating the return of the light! Hello.
it is December and we are getting ready for winter. We're stocking up on our wood
and we are still working to get our bedroom finished. The plan is to move in
to this space because it's a lot warmer than our current bedroom so we will have
a first real comfortable winter. We've slept in a very cold bedroom since we
moved here in 2019. As the days in December move on we are getting closer
to the winter solstice which is always a really important turning point for me. I
love celebrating the return of light and I cannot wait to spend the holidays
with our families and slowly move into a new year full of new opportunities and
projects.
Yes that little space was always intended to have wood logs like that but
then we don't want to bring in bugs and this wood just got delivered this
morning so it's clean and it does look really nice and that I don't know if you
remember I don't know if you saw our campervan trip video that is the log
that Olaf picked up from the woods here in the nature park. He
wanted to use it for chopping the wood but I said let's bring it in so Tigret
can use it because she's always using this part of our couches for her nails
and I was hoping that when we put this she would use that which she immediately
started doing but she's still scratching the couches as well. It feels so
wonderful that we are finally working on all the finishes in this kitchen. It's
starting to look so beautiful with every little thing that we finish and add.
Olaf is also painting the stairs just a primer coat for now so I already think
this looks really nice. In between all of these projects that we're doing around
the house I am also still working on my cookbook. The pace is pretty slow at the
moment because there are so many things involved but I am enjoying taking more
time for things. This must be the third video in which I'm telling you that
I've slowed down but I have to admit it is really wonderful to allow myself
finally to take things slower, take more time and enjoy more time with my husband
and my kids and friends.
Look at this amazing weather. This is what I love most about living here. The
not extremely cold but cold enough to have like these blue skies, sunny days. In
the Netherlands it would just be rain, rain, gray skies. So I really hope it's
chilly, it's cold but I love it.
We finished putting the wallpaper in our hallway stairway and I think it looks
wonderful. It adds so much warmth and coziness. The next step will be to put in
the floor and then we can finish our bedroom. I have thrifted really beautiful
doorknobs that we still need to put on and there are so many tiny little
finishes but I always feel that as soon as you get to the stage where you put
all these little finishes in that is when you start to see the entire design
and everything that you'd envisioned and imagined come together and the reward of
just seeing how it's all working out exactly as you hoped is so worth all the
time and effort that we're putting in. So I cannot wait to share that result
with you. I don't know when that will be. I hope it will be very soon. Thank you so
