The Story Behind the First Formal Renaissance Garden
#Renaissance #Architecture #buildingdesign #famousdesign
Located in Fiesole, overlooking Florence, Italy, the Medici Villa built by Giovanni de’ Medici featured the first formal Renaissance garden.
Designed by Leon Battista Alberti and/or his students, this garden drew upon Renaissance theories of beauty and was designed for contemplation and philosophical conversations.
After Giovanni’s early death, it was taken over by Lorenzo de’ Medici and visited by his friends Marsilio Ficino, Pico della Mirandola, and probably by Michelangelo.
