Our channel is a collection of Renaissance architectural works as well as works by the brilliant Renaissance architect: Andrea Pallodio. Renaissance architecture, dating from the mid-14th to early 17th centuries in various parts of Europe, represents a revival and development of certain elements of ancient Greek and Roman thought and conscious material culture. The Renaissance style followed Gothic architecture and was succeeded by Baroque. First developed in Florence, with Filippo Brunelleschi as one of its architects, the Renaissance style quickly spread to other Italian cities. The styles were then transferred to France, Germany, England, Russia, and other parts of Europe at different times and with varying degrees of impact. The Renaissance style emphasizes symmetry, proportion, geometry, and the validity of elements as seen in the architecture of antiquity, particularly ancient Roman architecture. Examples include the orderly arrangement of columns, pillars, and supporting beams, as well as the use of semicircular and hemispherical domes, niches, and small bays, replacing the complex proportions and irregular distortions of medieval buildings. Andrea Palladio, whose works formed the golden foundation of late Renaissance architecture, left a significant legacy for posterity. Among his most important projects are: the Villa of Rotona, the Basilica of Palladio, the church in Venice of San Giorgio Maggiore, the Olimpico Theatre, and the Loggia del Capitano. Andrea Palladio's architecture is distinguished by its solemnity, thoughtfully continuing ancient principles and traditions. In total, the architect designed more than 80 buildings of varying scales throughout Italy.
