In this video, I show you step by step how to make a melt-in-your-mouth buttery Christmas bread with a soft crumb and a light sweetness. The dough is easy to handle, the rising time is forgiving, and the result is perfect for breakfast, afternoon tea or a cozy holiday table.

🥖 Ingredients
For the dough:
265 ml / 9 oz / 1 cup + 1 tbsp warm milk
50 g / 4 tbsp sugar
6 g / 2 tsp dry yeast
1 egg
500 g / 17.6 oz / 4 cups all-purpose flour (about 9% protein)
6 g / 1 tsp salt
A little neutral cooking oil, to soften the dough and for handling
For the filling:
Softened butter, for spreading over the rolled-out dough
2 tbsp sugar
70 g raisins (briefly soaked in water, then dried with a towel)
65 g chopped walnuts
Zest of 1 orange
For the egg wash:
1 egg yolk
2 tbsp milk
Baking:
Bake in a preheated oven at 170°C / 338°F for about 35 minutes, until the top is golden and the bread is baked through.
🔔 Serving & tips
Let the bread cool slightly before slicing so the crumb can set.
You can dust the top with powdered sugar if you like, or serve it plain.
This bread is perfect with tea, coffee or hot chocolate on cold days.
