Poem: GAO Shi 高适
Music: Wei Cong魏聪 (中国 China)
Soprano: Raquel Suarez Groen
Tenor: Kyle Tomlin
千里黄云白日曛,北风吹雁雪纷纷。
莫愁前路无知己,天下谁人不识君。
六翮飘飖私自怜,一离京洛十馀年。
丈夫贫践应未足,今日相逢无酒钱。
The sun is shrouded with miles of yellow murky cloud,
Wind from the north brings snow when the geese are out.
You need not worry for lack of friends over there;
You are just as well-known everywhere.
Wandering around and feeling sorry for yourself,
You left the capital more than ten years ago.
Men like you surely should not in this poverty sink,
When old friends meet and cannot afford a drink.
The concert "Echoes of Ancient Tang Poems" was jointly performed by iSING! Suzhou and the Philadelphia Orchestra, which premiered in Philadelphia on Jan 6 and was held in New York on Jan 7. Fifteen singers from 10 countries led by Liao Guomin, a conductor from Macau, interpreted newly composed songs based on well-known poems from the Tang Dynasty (618-907).
