President Donald Trump says he's
directing the Justice Department to
investigate Jeffrey Epstein's
involvement with former President Bill
Clinton and other prominent Democrats.
It comes after the release of new
documents from the Epstein estate, which
mentioned Trump repeatedly. The House is
now just days away from voting to
release even more files. We get the
latest tonight now from ABC's Olivia
Rubin.
Days before an expected vote on Capitol
Hill to release the files held by the
Department of Justice concerning Jeffrey
Epstein, President Trump now directing
criminal investigations into Democrats
named in the files despite his own name
appearing multiple times. Trump ignoring
questions from reporters about the
records released this week.
>> Mr. President, can you respond to these
Epstein emails that were released today?
Thank you.
>> But on social media today, Trump calling
it a hoax, writing that he will ask the
attorney general, the DOJ, and the FBI
to investigate. Quote, "Jeffrey
Epstein's involvement and relationship
with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, and
Reed Hoffman." Those names and others
appearing in Epstein's newly released
emails this week, but Trump ignoring his
own mentions. In one 2011 email, Epstein
writing, "I want you to realize that
that dog that hasn't barked is Trump.
Victims spent hours at my house with
him. He has never once been mentioned.
Trump has denied any allegations of
wrongdoing."
>> These emails prove absolutely nothing
other than the fact that President Trump
did nothing wrong. And despite this new
directive earlier this year, DOJ and FBI
saying their investigation quote did not
uncover evidence that could predicate an
investigation against uncharged third
parties. And now, Attorney General Pam
Bondi says she will follow the
president's directive, saying she has
asked the US attorney for the Southern
District of New York to take the lead on
this investigation. That office, of
course, already prosecuted Glenn Maxwell
and indicted Epstein before he died by
suicide. In New York, Olivia Rubin,
