He is gone, but his name is still
burning. The Golden Horse Awards
allegedly showed the three characters Yu
Mang Long in the inmemoriam list,
sending the internet into an uproar. At
the same time, a neighbors testimony in
Beijing surfaced, revealing a chilling
last warning at the brink of death. Go
now, they'll come after you. Another
male star, Gujun, was said by a medium
to be possibly in danger. Fans posted
videos to prove he was fine, but those
clips only sparked new doubts. These are
not two isolated incidents, but across
Chinese language film world push back, a
counterattack of memory against enforced
forgetting and fear. Don't miss the next
drop. Subscribe and hit the bell. He is
gone, but the storm remains. In recent
days, stunning news came from Taipei.
The inmemoriam list for the Golden Horse
Awards allegedly included the name
Yumang Long. Once the news broke, the
entire web exploded. Some people wept
with emotion. If they erase your name on
the other shore, Taiwan will keep it for
you. Some said it was the jetless
Counter-Strike in Chinese language
cinema. Others said it was not only a
memorial, but a resistance to muted
memory. Yet, while fans were heatedly
debating, a hairraising rumor came from
Beijing. A neighbor claimed the last
thing they heard Yumang Long say before
he died was, "Go now. They'll come after
you." With one sentence, the entire
Chinese internet caught fire. Before the
truth could be clarified, a British
medium broke more news. Another male
star, Gujun, might also have met with
misfortune. When she drew cards during a
live stream, symbols of danger and
murder kept appearing, and the room
shrieked in panic. Fans hurried to post
airport videos to prove he was safe, but
people suspected the person on camera
was not him at all. Fact and facade
began intertwining into a deeper
mystery. Under such pressure, platforms
were blocked and comments deleted, but
people did not fall silent. Some pasted
his photo on walls, trams, and shopping
carts. Others flooded live streams with
just three characters, Yumang Long. And
that awards ceremony, born in the Cold
War and named after the front line of
Kinman and Matsu, the Golden Horse
Awards, has now become a symbol of
resisting oblivion and fear. From the
bugles on the front line to today's
candle light, this storm has long
surpassed the entertainment world. It is
not only a commemoration but a
counteroffensive of memory against the
dark. Next, what we need to talk about
is not merely the golden horse's bungled
list, but a true story that spans
politics, culture, and conscience.
Bungled or warm? The Golden Horse in
memoriam list ignites controversy. The
Golden Horse Awards are set for November
22nd, but rumors suddenly went viral
online that Jing Long's name appeared on
the 62nd Golden Horse in memoriam list.
The moment this broke, it set social
platforms across the straight ablaze.
Many of you supporters were deeply
moved, leaving comments like, "If the
mainland erases you, Taiwan will keep
you. Mang has come home. The Golden
Horse will remember you. The mainland
deletes and silences you. Taiwan lights
up your name. This is Taiwan's love."
People said, "The Golden Horse is truly
gentle. Taiwan's most beautiful scenery
is its people."
Some even said that although they hadn't
watched the Golden Horse in years, they
would tune in this year just for that
memorial segment. Facing the online
fervor, the Golden Horse Film Festival
Executive Committee issued an urgent
response on November 5th. They
clarified, "The content currently
circulating on social networks regarding
deceased film figures is not information
officially released by our committee."
The committee stressed that the ceremony
program is still in preparation. The
versions circulating online are
incorrect and the final list will only
be announced on the day of the ceremony.
Although the officials denied the online
list, their tone left room and did not
slam the door completely. Why could a
rumor about the Golden Horse trigger
such an outpouring of emotion? To
understand this, we must look into the
Golden Horse itself. It is not merely an
award, but a condensed history of
contemporary Chinese language, culture,
and politics. The military political
meaning of Golden Horse. Many may think
golden horse means a golden steed, but
its true origin is rooted in the iron
curtain of the cold war. Golden horse
comes from the initials of two frontline
ROC offshore islands, Kinman Gin Men and
Matsu Mazu. The Golden Horse Awards were
founded in 1962 by Taiwan's government
information office. According to then
director Shinan Hong, the name aimed to
encourage the ROC film industry to
emulate the perseverance of frontline
soldiers and forge new ground. This
creates the awards greatest historical
irony. The Golden Horse's birth carried
a strong political declaration and
military inspirational flavor with the
initial goal of rewarding Mandarin
language films to counter the CCP in the
cultural arena. It was an award named
after a front line of confrontation.
Yet today, mainland fans see the award
as a symbol of inclusion and gentleness
used to oppose what they perceive as
official censorship and erasure. In
fact, a prize rooted in political
exclusion has evolved into a cultural
bridge and artistic sanctuary that can
cross the street and gather filmmakers
from all sides. This evolution from
political front line to cultural
inclusiveness is the core value of the
Golden Horse. From Chinese language
Oscars to independent operation, the
Golden Horse is the world's first
Chinese language film award. In over six
decades, it has become one of the most
influential and representative film
honors in the Chinese language industry.
Widely hailed as the Chinese language
Oscars and recognized by the Academy of
Motion Picture Arts and Sciences,
its stature comes not only from
longevity. Crucially, in the 1990s, it
transitioned from a government-run event
by the GIO to an independently operated
professional institution.
This has been the foundation for
maintaining credibility and artistic
standards amid complex politics. In the
current discussion, fans repeatedly
mentioned the Golden Horses
inclusiveness.
This is not a fuzzy sentiment, but
embodied in changes to the competition
rules. At its founding, the award
strictly limited entries to Mandarin
films. At the 22nd Golden Horse,
Mandarin films, was simplified to
domestic films, widening eligibility.
The 33rd Golden Horse brought a historic
reform. As long as a film's primary
spoken language was Chinese, including
Taiwanese and other dialects, it could
enter regardless of producing country,
financing, or crew nationality. This
formally opened the competition to
mainland Chinese films. The 36th Golden
Horse went further, removing
requirements that entries have a public
screening license or obtain approval
from mainland authorities.
These reforms marked a transformation
from a political definition to a
cultural definition, laying the
institutional groundwork for the Golden
Horse's status as the Chinese language
Oscars. So, how does the Golden Horse
now defined Chinese language film?
According to the 60-cond rules, it uses
a dual track standard, a film must meet
either of the following. Language
standard, at least half of spoken
dialogue is in Chinese, meaning primary
languages/dialects used in Chinese
communities, excluding dubbing. Creator
standard. For narrative short,
documentary short, animation short, the
directors must be ethnic Chinese. for
narrative feature, documentary feature,
animation feature. At least half of the
principal creators must be ethnic
Chinese. Principal creators is strictly
defined by 15 award categories including
director, lead/supporting actors,
writers, cinematographer, editor,
composer, etc. This dual system is
astute. It anchors cultural identity and
language while opening the door via
creator criteria for films led by
Chinese creators, even if not primarily
in Chinese. Should he be memorialized by
the Golden Horse? With the history,
structure, and rules in mind, we can
revisit the second round debate
triggered by the rumor, should Yu Mang
Long be included in the Golden Horse
memorial? Some critics point out that
you was primarily active in the mainland
TV/film scene and had not participated
in Taiwanese productions, so his
inclusion seems unlikely. But supporters
quickly offered rebuttals. Their core
argument, the memorial segment is not
about Taiwan productions, but about
contribution and impact on Chinese
language cinema. This is not baseless.
There are precedents. In 2016, the 53rd
Golden Horse in memoriam segment
included the mainland actor Xiao Renong,
who also died young. In 2018, the 55th
Golden Horse not only memorialized the
young mainland director Hubo, but his
postumous work in Elephant Sitting still
won best feature. Then Cherong Lee
hugging Hubo's mother became the
ceremony's most moving moment. Moreover,
netisonens dug up used ties with Taiwan.
He acted in the microfilm Leap directed
by famous Taiwanese host Kevin Sai and a
debut he trained under veteran Taiwanese
manager Sand Durang. Some fans are not
giving up. They suggest why not first
exercise our own power and right to
petition. They are calling on people to
request rationally on the Golden Horse
website that the organizers consider the
public's hopes. The terrifying neighbor
testimony. While Golden Horse
controversy raged, more details about
the night of the incident emerged. Funue
Master Maen said on his channel that he
has known Yu's neighbor for many years.
According to this neighbor, on the night
of the incident, everyone in Sunshine
Upper East compound in Beijing knew. It
was very noisy and dragged on a long
time. from around 8 or 9 the previous
evening. It went on and on. The neighbor
said there were police cars downstairs
with people going in and out and
flashing lights either from ambulances
or police cars. But residents didn't
dare approach because they heard police
were below. Mossen also claimed that
afterward people in the compound moved
out rapidly, renters quit their leases,
and even homeowners abandoned the place.
The compound is now described as a
notorious haunted community. This
dubtales with earlier info. After the
incident, as many as 93 units in
Sunshine Upper East were listed for sale
simultaneously, priced from 11.5 to 16.5
million Renmanb. Such a bizarre
collective rush to offload makes one
wonder what horrifying thing happened.
Most heartbreaking of all was another
neighbor's account. A user on X said a
neighbor saw you injured and tried to
help and call the police. You told him,
"Go now. They'll kill you."
Netzens were devastated. They lamented
that at the brink of death, he did not
first beg for help, but worried for
another's safety. He truly embodied the
ultimate goodness. This also recalls
online claims that three female
witnesses that night saw you subjected
to extreme violence, shouting, "Brother,
run, run, run, and help me!" mixed with
unfamiliar men's voices. It's rumored
those three women were later silenced.
Has Gujunin met with trouble? Before use
case is resolved, news has emerged that
another male star may also be in danger.
On November 5th, British medium Tai
Williams said in a live stream that when
she channeled information about Gujun
Chin, the card she drew indicated danger
and murder. She thus believed Gua had
already suffered misfortune. The claim
terrified everyone. People had already
feared he could become the next Juang
Long because netisonens found many
parallels. Both have fair, delicate
looks and are thought to be targets for
powerful predators. Gu worked with Song
who is seen by some as an accomplice in
use case and rumored to have powerful
red lineage. A company under Gu's name
is strangely registered under trademark
class 13 firearms/ fireworks, raising
suspicion that like you, his name was
used to open a shell company. More
chillingly, during a recent birthday
live stream, his agency gave him a cake
decorated with five blood red longevity
peaches, interpreted as a sign that he
had no way out. However, fans quickly
posted evidence, a video of Gua masked,
appearing at the airport on November 5th
and greeting supporters to refute the
rumor. But the controversy did not
subside. Some immediately suspected the
person in the airport clip wasn't Gual,
but a lookalike stand-in. Debate
continues. We hope Gu is safe. But under
the shadow of Yu's case, it is no wonder
fans are terrified. In the darkest hour,
some still raise a torch. After Yu's
death, mainland authorities rapidly
concluded it as an accident and even
arrested three netisonens for allegedly
spreading rumors. But the case is
riddled with doubts, and the official
line is unconvincing.
Nisonens have taken up the role of
sleuths trying to uncover the truth.
Discussions keep being suppressed, but
public opinion cannot be gagged. On
November 3rd, Beijing hosted the Weibo
Vision Conference. Star studded with big
names like Hang Xiaoming and Yangmi. The
authorities said this industry gala
gathered hundreds of performers and
Backbone creators in drama and variety.
Yet during this grand event, the entire
live stream chat was spammed with three
characters, Yu Mang Long. That is public
sentiment. Even more moving, the
well-known commentator finance coldike
posted a video showing mainland nisonens
self-organizing to paste use posters on
public walls, trams, car rears, and even
shopping carts in malls. Aiming to draw
more attention to use injustice and put
pressure on the CCP in a place where
even discussing it can get you detained.
How much courage does this take? Finance
Cold Ike said, "Netisonens inside China
are still persevering. We overseas are
relatively safer. What reason do we have
to give up? Indeed, we have no reason to
give up. From storming the live stream
chats to bravely posting flyers offline,
we see that even under the darkest
repression, the yearning for justice has
never gone out. Thank you for watching
today's program. This incident is far
from over, and we will continue to
follow it with you. Please help share
this video and let more people pay
attention to the Yumang Long case.
