where Jose Menendez purchased the Elm Drive estate in 1988 for a reported $4 million the Mediterranean style home featured a red tile roof a courtyard a swimming pool a tennis court and a guest house the property was previously owned by Real Estate Mogul Mark slin who remained a close friend of the Menendez family during lyen trial slen testified for the defense claiming the sound proofing he installed in the home during Rena made it unlikely that a maid overheard any family arguments his testimony raised questions about key evidence from the case after the gruesome crime this Beverly struggled to sell after the case records showed some potential buyers and Real Estate Pros believed the house had bad karma which affected its ability to sell the Mansion was sold in 1991 for $3.6 million to an undisclosed buyer then in 1993 William link co-creator of Murder She Wrote bought the home and owned it for 8 years before selling it to Executive Samuel duug in 2001 the lug carried out extensive Renovations but the mansion's exterior largely looks the same more recently in March 2024 the infamous Mansion sold for $17 million following Delux 23-year ownership despite the property's Grim past it still attracted wealthy buyers the lanes who are an affluent Iranian family based in Beverly Hills the recent sale went down 28 years after the Menendez brothers were convicted for their crimes while Lyall who's 21 at the time and Eric 18 initially got away with taking the lives of their parents blaming it on organized crime 6 months later the brothers were arrested after Eric confided in a psychologist leading to their trial the menendez's brothers were tried twice the first trials held separately resulted in deadlock juries during a joint retrial in 1996 both Lyall and Eric were convicted on charges of conspiracy and sentenced to life in prison without parole during the trial Lyall and Eric acknowledged their actions but caim they acted in self-defense citing years of emotional and physical trauma the prosecution argued the brothers were motivated by the idea of inheriting their father's estate which definitely included this Beverly Hills mansion for many years
