This is NTV Evening News live from our
global headquarters in New York City.
Here's Tiffany Meyer.
>> Good evening and thank you for joining
us tonight. President Trump says he's
terminating all trade negotiations with
Canada. It's after Canada launched a
state sponsored TV ad campaign opposing
US tariffs. The ad featured clips of
President Ronald Reagan. NTD's
Washington correspondent Jack Bradley
has more.
>> President Trump says he's ending trade
talks with Canada. It's over the Ontario
government's new ad that President Trump
says is meant to interfere with an
upcoming US Supreme Court decision on
his administration's tariffs. On Friday
morning, Trump wrote on Truth Social,
"Canada cheated and got caught. They
fraudulently took a big buy ad saying
that Ronald Reagan did not like tariffs
when actually he loved tariffs for our
country and its national security.
Canada is trying to illegally influence
the United States Supreme Court in one
of the most important rulings in the
history of our country. Now, this is in
response to Ontario's $75 million ad
campaign, which came out earlier this
month. It features clips from Ronald
Reagan's 1987 address advocating for
free trade. Here's a clip. High tariffs
inevitably lead to retaliation by
foreign countries and the triggering of
fierce trade wars.
Then the worst happens. Market shrink
and collapse. Businesses and industries
shut down and millions of people lose
their jobs. The Ronald Reagan
Presidential Foundation says the ad took
Reagan's speech out of context, edited
to misrepresent it, and was used without
their permission. They're threatening to
sue the Ontario government now. And
White House adviser Kevin Hasset says
that Trump ended negotiations with
Canada not just over this ad, but over a
period of frustration with Canada's
negotiating team. This has just seemed
to be what pushed it over the edge.
>> I think the frustration has built up
over time. I've been involved in some of
these negotiations and the Canadians
have been very difficult to negotiate
with and you look at all the countries
around the world that we've made deals
with. Uh and the fact that we're now
negotiating with Mexico uh separately uh
reveals that it's not just about one one
uh ad that that there's frustration
that's built up.
>> Premier of Ontario Doug Ford later said
that Canada will pause the ad so trade
talks can resume. But before he takes it
down, he wants it to reach more eyes. He
wrote on X on Friday that I've directed
my team to keep putting our message in
front of Americans over the weekend so
that we can air our commercial during
the first two World Series games.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says
Canada is ready to pick up trade
negotiations with the US.
>> We stand ready uh to pick up on that
progress uh and build on that progress
uh when the Americans are ready to have
those discussions. This isn't the first
time the US has ended trade talks with
Canada. Back in June, Trump suspended
the talks after Canada imposed a digital
services tax, impacting American
companies like Amazon and Netflix.
Canada canled that tax 2 days later and
trade talks resumed. Both Trump and
Carney are heading to Asia, Malaysia,
Japan, and then South Korea for the Apex
summit. It's unclear if they'll meet on
the sidelines to come to a breakthrough,
though. But we do know that Trump is set
to meet with Chinese Communist Party
leader Xiinping to seek a trade deal. So
trade discussions may be on the
sidelines of this trip. Reporting by
Jack Bradley, NTD News.
>> The East Wing of the White House is now
nearly ready for construction of the new
ballroom. Could President Trump name it
after himself? Tonight on Capital Report
at 7 p.m. Eastern time, hear from Mi
Smith, Steve Scully, and Amanda Mackey.
The Trump administration is
investigating if communist China has
complied with the phase 1 trade deal
signed in 2020. This comes less than a
week before President Trump is set to
meet with CCP leader Xi Jinping in South
Korea. US Trade Representative Jameson
Greer today announced an examination
into whether China has fully implemented
its commitments under the deal and what
to do if it hasn't. He suggested that
China appears not to have lived up to
its commitments when it comes to
non-tariff barriers, market access
issues, and purchases of US goods. Greer
said that the investigation shows the
Trump administration's resolve to hold
China to its commitments and protect the
American people. Under section 301 of
the Trade Act of 1974, the US can impose
tariffs in response to unfair trade
practices by other nations. The Trump
administration welcomes comments from US
industries and labor unions. A hearing
on the matter is also scheduled for
December 16th. The Pentagon has
confirmed a ninth strike on a drug
smuggling vessel as part of its campaign
against foreign terrorist organizations
in the Western Hemisphere. Our
Washington correspondent Luis Martinez
has more on the story.
>> Not war. Not war. Not war.
Just peace. Just peace. Just peace.
Forever. Forever. Forever. Peace.
Forever.
>> Nicolas Maduro, the leader of the
Venezuelan regime and the leader of the
cartel of the Sons, has publicly pleaded
for peace with the United States. While
at the same time, Maduro launched an app
in Venezuela so that those loyal to the
regime can report on descent. Maduro has
also deployed the military nationwide in
preparations for a potential
confrontation with the United States.
operation against narot terrorists as
the department of war characterizes
them, the al-Qaeda of the Western
Hemisphere. They come through the
Caribbean with the full assistance and
cooperation of the illegitimate
government of Venezuela, the cartel de
Soloulless, which is run by Nicholas
Maduro.
>> The Department of War has now confirmed
a ninth strike on a drug smuggling
vessel operated by Tren Aaragua, which
has close ties to the Maduro regime.
>> This is a national security problem.
They killed 300,000 people last year.
Drugs. These drugs coming in. They
killed 300,000 Americans last year. And
that gives you legal authority.
>> The Southern District of New York
indicted Nicholas Maduro and a bunch of
other people in in his regime for being
a they're they're a trans shipment
organization.
>> The Department of War also confirmed it
has deployed the USS Gerald Ford
aircraft carrier group to the South
Caribbean Sea. And that's why changing
the dynamic and actually taking kinetic
strikes on these boats ought change the
psychology of these foreign terrorist
organizations. Look, you're never going
to interdict your way out. That's
extremely expensive and resource
inensive and it hasn't worked for
decades. So the idea of trying something
new and yes, it is against a terrorist
organization. They they they act like
terrorists, that's for sure. Um and you
can quibble about whether it's criminal
or terroristic activity. In the end, we
have all the authority we need to strike
them.
>> When the Gerald S. Ford carrier strike
group arrives in the South Caribbean
Sea, the US will have 13 destroyers, a
nuclear submarine, an aircraft carrier,
and its entire airwing, and 10
additional F-35 fighters in the region.

Shots fired after a driver ignores
multiple warnings and reverses a truck
towards security personnel at an ICE
protest site near San Francisco. And
altercations and arrests continue to be
a normal occurrence outside an ICE
facility in Portland, Oregon. And
correspondent Jason Blair joins us live
from Portland now. Good evening, Jason.
Before we get into how things are in
Portland, can you tell us about the
U-Haul incident near San Francisco? Was
anyone injured?
Yeah, Tiffany. So, two people were
injured in the incident. The driver uh
of the truck and also a bystander
according to authorities. Both are
nonlife-threatening injuries. D the DHS
says that the driver was driving a
U-Haul sporadically before uh it started
backing up towards the security
personnel. After multiple warnings uh
given to the driver, the personnel
opened fire um at the truck that was
driving uh towards the agents and no law
enforcement agents were hurt. Just uh
two two bystanders or one bystander and
the driver. So, this happened around 10
p.m. on Thursday night at an SF Bay Area
Coast Guard base. This is where
immigration enforcement officers were
recently deployed and also the site of
larger protests on Thursday that kind of
had fizzled out a little bit in the
night. But there was still some activity
going on when this incident happened.
Authorities also say that the driver is
getting a mental health evaluation.
>> We have been seeing ongoing reports of
vehicles being used against ICE and
immigrant enforcement officers. Jason,
how about things in Portland, though?
Any news on the National Guard
deployment there?
>> Yes. So, so far, no on the ground um
spotting of the National Guard. There
has been no activity or any confirmation
that it is happening uh anything is
happening yet, but there are unconfirmed
reports that it some some things will be
happening on Saturday. So, but as far as
on the ground here in Portland, there
were some incidents last night. There
were some uh altercations uh a fight
when some uh pro-ICE protesters were
confronted while they were trying to
walk down uh the sidewalk next to what
looks like a was a Antifa kind of
makeshift camp on the sidewalk there. Uh
there was a confrontation there.
Multiple people got into a fight.
According to Portland police, two people
were arrested. But one gentleman uh
looked like he got cut with some kind of
object. He said that it was either
possibly a knife or a shank. Um but he
was uh no light life-threatening
injuries with them. But there has been
uh you know multiple uh cases of this
kind of thing happening at the site
since June when uh protest started
outside of the ice facility here in
Portland, Oregon. Back to you.
>> All right, Jason, thanks for that and
stay safe and dry out there.
New York Attorney General Leticia James
has entered ple of not guilty at her
Norfolk, Virginia Federal Court
arraignment today. NTD's Arlene Richards
has more.
>> New York Attorney General Leticia James
denied felony charges of bank fraud at
her arraignment hearing on Friday. She
pleaded not guilty to the fraud charges
and a charge of making false statements
to a financial institution. James is
accused of attempting to defraud two
financial institutions by falsely
characterizing a three-bedroom property
in 2020. According to the indictment,
she claimed the Norfol, Virginia
property was a secondary residence, but
it was an investment property that she
never planned to live in. She allegedly
mischaracterized its use to secure
better terms on her mortgage. After the
arraignment, James made brief remarks
outside of the courthouse.
>> And so, I want to thank you.
>> Thank you. But this is not about me.
>> This is about all of us.
>> And about a justice system which has
been weaponized.
>> A a justice system which has been a been
used as a tool of revenge. Yes,
>> this justice system which has been used
as a tool of revenge
>> and a weapon against those individuals
who simply did their job and who stood
up for the rule of law
>> you
a justice system which unfortunately is
nothing being used as a vehicle of
retribution.
>> Ahead of the arraignment on Thursday,
James attorney filed motions urging the
court to oust prosecutor Lindseay
Halligan and block her from revealing
details of the case to the media. A
trial is set for January 26th. Arlene

Many federal employees aren't seeing
paychecks today due to the government
shutdown. And this will soon be the case
for air traffic controllers and active
duty military. The Department of
Transportation now saying that flights
could be delayed or cancelled as a
result. Entities David Lamb has more.
The federal government has been shut
down for four weeks now and the
financial impacts are expected to
intensify over the next 11 days as
billions of dollars in salaries and
payments will not be dispersed. Here are
some of the key dates and impacts.
During the rest of October, many federal
workers are likely to receive no pay,
including air traffic controllers and
active duty military. The Department of
Transportation says that air traffic
controllers were paid about 10 days ago,
but flights may be impacted to
prioritize safety. If we don't have
enough controllers, if we have
controllers that are more stressed and
less able to do the job, uh we pay close
attention to that and we will reduce the
capacity of airplanes taking off and
landing or we will cancel flights. And
so you can and very well may see delays
in the system, but that's because our
priority is you getting from point A to
point B and getting there safely. I'm
less concerned about you getting there
on time. I want you to be safe.
>> On November 1st, premiums for 2026
health coverage under the Affordable
Care Act marketplace are expected to
increase over 2025 rates when the open
enrollment period begins. On November
4th, gubernatorial elections will be

shutdown is a result of Senate
Republicans and Democrats not agreeing
on a resolution to fund the government
through November 21st while lawmakers
negotiate the 2026 budget. David Lamb,

backing Democratic nominees around
Mamani in the New York City mayoral
race. Jeffrey shared a statement on X
that says in part, "Zoram Dani has

affordability crisis and explicitly
committed to being a mayor for all New
Yorkers, including those who do not
support his candidacy." He went on to
say, "I support him in the entire
citywide Democratic ticket in the
general election."
In response, Mumdani shared a statement
that said in part, "I welcome Leader
Jeffrey's support and look forward to
delivering a city government and
building a Democratic party relentlessly
committed to our affordability agenda."
The Department of Justice announced it
will be monitoring polling sites in
several jurisdictions ahead of the
November 4th elections. The move comes
as citizens will be voting on
California's Proposition 50 and in New
Jerseyy's highstakes gubanatorial race.
entities Christina Corona tells us more.
>> The US Department of Justice will be
monitoring polling sites in six
jurisdictions ahead of the November 4th
elections. That includes five California
counties, Fresno, Kern, Los Angeles,
Orange, and Riverside along with Paya
County in New Jersey where a
gubanatorial election will be held.
California GOP Chair Karen Rankin asked
the Justice Department to send monitors
to those five counties, citing reports
of past election irregularities that
could affect voter confidence this
November. The move comes after
California Republicans requested federal
oversight of Prop 50, a measure that
would redraw congressional districts in
the state. DOJ officials say the
monitoring is routine and designed to
ensure elections are secure and
transparent and follow federal voting
laws. Attorney General Pam Bondi
explains the effort is aimed at giving
voters confidence that every ballot will
be counted fairly, saying transparency
at the polls translates into faith in
the electoral process, and this
Department of Justice is committed to
upholding the highest standards of
election integrity. California Secretary
of State Shirley Weber and Attorney
General Rob Bont have also promised safe
and fair elections with state teams
enforcing election laws on the ground.
DOJ staff will also be available to
answer questions and handle complaints,
helping ensure transparency at the
polls. Christina Corona, NTD News.
Coming up, Ukrainian President Vladameir
Zalinski calls for long range weapons to
strike deep into Russia and force Moscow
into peace talks. Meanwhile, EU
countries discuss financing for Ukraine,
potentially using frozen Russian assets.
Malcolm Hudson reports. Amid talks and
diplomacy, fighting in Ukraine
continues. At least three civilians are
reported dead after a major shelling
attack by Russia. Arian Pazdar has the
war update. And Secretary of State Marco
Rubio visits US troops in Israel who are
overseeing the Gaza peace plan. Rubio
says no US boots will be on the ground
in Gaza and that other countries are
offering to help with security. Jason
Perry with the details after the break.
Welcome back. I'm Tiffany Meyer.
Ukrainian President Zalinski urged
allies to supply his nation with long
range weapons to strike deeper into
Russia. His allies are discussing now to
finance Ukraine over the coming years
with debate and concerns over using
frozen Russian assets. Entities
international correspondent Malcolm
Hudson has more.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zilinski
meets British Prime Minister Karma in
London. It comes ahead of a coalition of
the willing meeting where allies discuss
ways to support Ukraine. Zilinski called
for long range missiles to strike deeper
into Russia.
>> Everything Putin does is an attempt to
delay new forms of pressure. We must
create in Russia a will to negotiate.
>> Ukraine uses its own weapons to hit
energy and military facilities deep
inside Russia. Zilinski has been seeking
long range Tomahawk missiles from the
United States to increase pressure on
Moscow, but has not yet obtained them.
British Prime Minister Kama urged
Ukrainian allies to use frozen Russian
assets to strengthen Ukraine's hand for
any future peace talks.
>> I think we need to agree to finish the
job on Russia's sovereign assets and
unlock billions to help finance
Ukraine's defense. European Union
leaders agreed on Thursday to meet
Ukraine's pressing financial needs for
the next two years, but stopped short of
endorsing the plan to use frozen Russian
assets due to Belgian concerns. Moscow
has promised a painful response if the
Russian assets are seized. At a press
conference, Danish Prime Minister Meta
Frederickson said there are details to
work out over how to finance reparations
for Ukraine. We have to work in a way
that we have a solution before Christmas
Eve so we are able to ensure that we can
finance um Ukraine uh for for the next
years.
>> She said a consensus must be reached to
provide Ukraine with the muchneeded
funds. On Wednesday, President Trump
announced sanctions on Russia's two
biggest oil companies. NATO Secretary
General Mark Rutter said this shows
Trump is absolutely committed to ending
the war.
>> The sanctions that the US has placed
against Russia's largest oil companies
will starve them of revenue and
significantly increase the pressure on
Putin to come to the negotiating table.
>> Putin said the sanctions on oil
companies were an unfriendly act but
would not significantly affect the
Russian economy. Malcolm Hudson, NTD
News.
>> As European leaders gather to discuss
support for Kev, the fighting in Ukraine
continues. At least three civilians are
reported dead after a massive shelling
attack by Russia. At the same time,
lower level US and Russian delegations
are meeting amid heightened tensions
between the two countries. And today's
international correspondent Arian Pdar
has the war update.
Footage from the Ukrainian city of
Kerson appears to show a Russian
shelling attack on Friday. Explosions
can be seen across the city. Ukrainian
officials say at least three civilians
are dead and over a dozen others are
injured, including a 16-year-old. The
attack reportedly damaged private homes,
apartment buildings, and transportation
and infrastructure facilities.
Prosecutors say the attack amounts to
another war crime committed by Russian
forces. Meanwhile, Ukraine continues
attacking Russian targets using drones.
Ukraine has attacked Russian energy
facilities more than 60 times since
August. A senior Ukrainian commander
says its drones are traveling over,200
miles in some cases. But Russia is
getting better at intercepting them.
The enemy is waiting for us in certain
places, carrying out counter measures in
order to reduce our success in long
range strikes.
And back home in Kiev, the widows of
some fallen Ukrainian soldiers planted
trees in a public park as a way to
remember their sacrifice.
>> We have a small daughter left.
Unfortunately, he died on her birthday.
She was turning three years old that
day. Now she is five and now only the
two of us are left.
>> Another widow says they're naming the
trees after the fallen soldiers so
people will remember the sacrifices they
made. And Russia's special envoy for
investment and economic cooperation is
in New York on Friday. Kiral Dimitre is
set to attend a long planned meeting
saying this is proof that dialogue
between the US and Russia continues.
I am currently in the US at the
invitation of the American side. This
trip was long planned and has not been
cancelled by the American side despite a
number of unfriendly actions.
Earlier this week, the US imposed
sanctions on two major Russian oil
companies. And on Tuesday, President
Trump canled plans for a second summit
with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Russian envoy now says dialogue will
continue, but only if Moscow's interests
are taken into account and treated with
respect. Arian Pastar, NTD News.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with
US troops in Israel as they continue to
supervise and mediate the Gaza peace
plan. Rubio said plenty of other
countries have offered to assist with
security in the Gaza Strip. Entities
Jason Perry has the details.
Two weeks into the ceasefire in the Gaza
Strip and many questions still remain
for the future of the territory.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday
visited the newly established civil
military coordination center in southern
Israel. That's where US troops will
supervise and mediate the Gaza Peace
Plan.
>> This is an historic mission, by the way.
I mean, if you think about it, there's
nothing to model this after because this
has never happened before. He said no US
boots will be on the ground in Gaza, but
instead an international security force
will help keep the peace in the
territory. And Rubio said plenty of
countries have already offered and
expressed interest in participating in
that security force. I also think it's
fair to these countries to they need to
know what they're signing up for, which
is why the work is ongoing to create
what is the security force, what is
their mandate, what is their command, um
under what uh authority are they going
to be operating, who's going to be in
charge of it, what is their job? I mean,
how's it going to be resourced? How's it
going to be sustained and paid for? What
are the rules of engagement? There's a
lot to work through. That's why there's
all these people working in this
building. And with so many other
questions that lie ahead, Rubio said he
wasn't able to explain exactly what Gaza
will look like in the future.
>> But I can tell you what it can't look
like. It cannot be a place that is
governed by anyone who wants to use it
as a launch pad for attacks against
Israel. If it is, then we'll just be
there be another war. There won't be any
peace.
>> And he said they're also working with
the United Nations and other NOS's. But
he added that the United Nations Relief
and Works Agency, also known as UNRA,
would not play any role in the future of
Gaza. And he accused the agency of being
a subsidiary of Hamas, something UNRA
has denied. Meanwhile, residents in the
Gaza Strip are still adjusting to life
two weeks into the ceasefire. This man
and his family returned to the building
that they used to live in, which was
destroyed during the war.
I couldn't find any place other than
here. I'm sitting in front of my house.
Where else can I go? The rubble is in
front of me. Every day I look at my home
and feel sorrow over it. But what can I
do? This comes as Israeli forces have
continued striking targets belonging to
the Iranbacked Hezbollah terrorist group
in Lebanon. On Friday, they reported
striking the logistics commander of the
southern front headquarters in the
Hezbollah terrorist organization. And on
the same day, Israeli forces said they
had completed a five-day exercise along
the Lebanese border. They said it was to
strengthen readiness for extreme defense
scenarios and that it was their largest
exercise since the beginning of the war.

>> Coming up, the Pentagon deploys one of
its most advanced aircraft carriers to
the Caribbean, targeting narotourist
organizations. The decision comes as the
US has struck many known drug smuggling
vessels in the region. Foreign policy
and national security analyst Armen
Kurdian joins us to discuss these latest
developments when we come back.
Welcome back. I'm Tiffany Meyer. The
Pentagon today announced the deployment
of an aircraft carrier to US Southern
Command to target drug trafficking
organizations, marking a significant US
military buildup in the Latin American
region. Joining us now is retired US
Navy captain Armen Kurdian. He's also a
foreign policy and national security
analyst as well as a California state
senate candidate. Armen, thank you so
much for joining us. Now, President
Trump said Thursday that the land is
going to be next, not just the sea, and
that the land drugs are much more
dangerous for them. How are you looking
at what's unfolding in Venezuela?
>> Good afternoon, Tiffany. This is
certainly at the very least a much
greater escalation in words uh and the
rhetoric that's come out of this
administration a lot more fierce and
direct than we've ever seen come out of
Washington when it comes to the drug
grade. Uh you know, you've heard more
than 100,000 have died of fentinel and
drug overdoses uh in this country. It's
a tragedy of epidemic proportions and ly
this drug addiction is an epidemic. So
while there are some questions as to
whether some some believe it may or may
not be legal taking off these boats, uh
in my opinion, when we consider uh you
could send a terrorist across the water
with some bombs and you're just fighting
blowing them up because bombs kill
people. These drugs are killing people,
too. So, Donald Trump is definitely
exercising the authority on the high
seas to take these targets out. Now,
bringing a carrier into the region uh
with a with escort ships uh certainly
will be a much stronger uh sign and
it'll be even harder for a vessel
leaving the Venezuelan coast to make it
across the Caribbean uh into the Gulf of
Mexico or around the US East Coast to be
able to basically make coordinate and
with radar and other surveillance
activities. Um it's it's going to be
extremely hard for them to uh to supply
the US with drugs uh coming over the
water.
>> And speaking of that drug epidemic,
President Trump has confirmed for the
first time that China is sending
fentinel through Venezuela and then into
the US to bypass US ports. The
president, Vice President JD Vance and
Secretary of War Pete Hexes have all
said that military action is needed
against cartels because of their role in
the opioid epidemic in the US. What do
you think of the administration's
messaging to the public on this issue,
especially to those who may be concerned
that this could lead to another war?
>> Direct military action um in inside of
Venezuelan borders on the land could
possibly strengthen Maduro's position at
home. He is very unpopular. Uh he stole
his last election, but uh if he's able
to rally as people say the United States
is attacking us, it might be
counterproductive in that sense.
However, I think the president is hoping
that uh by taking out a lot of the drug
trade, a lot of the money that's coming
in that perhaps some other folks within
the Maduro administration might move
against him or move to severize with the
uh with with the narco terrorists who
are down there. I think something that
the administration could do uh if they
could avoid giving away sources and
methods of intelligence is to present uh
information to the world if if they have
a direct connection between uh the
Maduro regime government agents and
these terrorist organizations that would
necessarily divulge how that information
was actually gathered. Uh sometimes that
can be a little bit of a challenge. So
you can have all the evidence in the
world but you say hey we saw this bank
transition and this money moved from
this account to this account to this
account. Well it might lead to a
particular uh individual who might have
uh either you know was either double
agent or um was was compromised and then
perhaps that line of intelligence is
lost because the bad guys worked to to
close it off. So, it's a little bit of a
delicate balancing game uh there going
on, but certainly um I think this these
efforts to stop this drug trafficking,
this is the most serious this country
has ever been in this this
>> Now, many are seeing this as an
escalation. One reporter asking whether
Trump would request Congress to issue a
declaration of war against the cartels.
Now, Trump suggested it's not necessary.
Going back to your earlier point, does
he have the legal authority now that
he's designated these cartels as
terrorist groups to go in with these
strikes
>> on its face? Yes. The United States has
acted within the borders of many of the
uh countries. No, uh Ethiopia, Somalia,
within within Iraq and Syria. We we've
struck terrorist organizations and
groups and targets in in those countries
among others. you know, within Yemen, uh
the Houthi rebels, uh we've we've got
targets there. So, uh striking terrorist
targets within another uh country is
nothing new. Uh doing it within the
western hemisphere, that is something
that is very new. So, while it's the
legal ramifications are pretty much the
same. Uh the ramifications of it
happening within uh this hemisphere is
certainly something that we haven't seen
in a very very long time. Uh the US went
into Panama to take out Manuel Noriega
in 1990 or 89. I can't remember exact
the exact year but took him out. Uh the
US went into Granada in 1987 uh as well.
So uh actions of that nature have have
happened within within our lifetimes. um
going into Venezuela, it seems like it
would be a little bit different in in
this case, but uh uh perhaps, you know,
a couple of dedicated pin break strikes
on facilities where the drugs are
actually manufactured. Uh or perhaps
they try carrying precursor chemicals
and do one or two of those. Uh maybe
it's more of a strategic move than a
tactical move to to get the cartels to
to back down and stop sending drugs over
over the border.
>> A lot to watch for for sure here, Armen
Curian. And as always, thank you so much
for joining us.
>> Coming up, Southern California is
turning blue as fans rally behind the
Dodgers ahead of the World Series.
Christina Corona takes us to Santa
Monica where excitement is building for
game one. And that game starts less than
two hours from now, over a week after
show Otani's epic performance. Dave
Martin joins us to discuss when we come
back.
Welcome back. I'm Tiffany Meyer. Dodger
fans across Southern California are
showing their pride ahead of the 2025
World Series. In Santa Monica, the city
turned blue for a special celebration
for the fans. And Christina Corona takes
us there.
>> We're here in Santa Monica on the third
street prominade. As you can see behind
me is a sea of Dodger Blue. Bands from
all over LA County came out for the
first ever We Believe in Blue Dodgers
pep rally ahead of our boys in blue
heading to the World Series. From live
entertainment to special guests and
prizes, there's something for every fan
to enjoy.
>> Go Dodgers. Yay! Go Dodgers!
>> The event was hosted by the city of
Santa Monica and Downtown Santa Monica,
Inc., drawing a huge crowd of fans
Thursday night. Former Dodger legends
Steve Garvey, Eric Keros, and Adrienne
Gonzalez took the stage and even had the
fans singing, "Take me out to the ball
game.
>> Take me out to the ball game. Take me
out to the crowd."
>> Eric Keros, the LA Dodgers all-time home
run leader with 270 home runs, talks
about Dodgers current season leader,
Show Otani.
Now, show is truly I mean, I would sit
here and say greatest all-around
baseball player to ever dawn a uniform
to ever play.
>> The former players also signed
autographs and took photos with fans.
Fans enjoyed live music, a 360°ree photo
booth, an 8-ft tall Dodger baseball to
take pictures with, and even a beer
garden. All as excitement builds for
game one. The Dodgers now have a chance
to become baseball's first repeat World
Series champions in 25 years after
sweeping the Milwaukee Brewers in the
NLCS.
>> Yeah, we're going to win two years in a
row. Yes.
>> So excited. We already knew we have to
have faith. We believe in our boys.
>> Best feeling ever.
>> And when it comes to favorite players,
the crowd made it clear.
>> Otani. Yeah. And Freddy Freeman.
>> Show Otani. Show
>> Kershaw. That's it. I could care less
what everyone says.
Whether he wins or lose, he's still a
champion.
>> As nightfell, the Santa Monica skyline
lit up in Dodger Blue, wrapping up a
full night of team pride and
celebration. Every World Series game
will be streamed from the Prominance
Entertainment Zone where fans can bring
a beach chair, grab a drink, and watch
all the action.
>> Go Dodgers.
So many fans are decked out in Dodger
gear, ready to cheer on the Dodgers as
they take on the Toronto Blue Jays for
game one of the World Series. Reporting
from the city of Santa Monica, Christina
Corona, NTD News.
And now for more sports news. We're
joined Dave Martin Day. Plenty going on
right now, but let's start in the NBA
actually because yesterday authorities
arrested several members of the league
in a gambling probe. What did you make
of it?
>> I mean to me it's a reminder of why I
don't gamble. Tiff, you know, I mean
these sports betting companies, you
know, they're only profitable because
people lose more money than they win.
You know, that's a fact. That's not on
accident. Otherwise, they would not be
in business. Now, at the at the press
conference yesterday when they announced
all these arrests, they mentioned a
player named Jonte Porter. Now, Porter
was banned for the league from life back
for life back in 2024 in a gambling
scheme around prop bets, which are those
individual bets on, you know, individual
players, I should say. Now, he admitted
in court to manipulating his performance
in two games. And when they mentioned
his name yesterday, they gave some
perspective on what actually happened.
They said the defendants threatened him
presumably to manipulate his performance
because of his pre-existing gambling
debts and they used that information to
place bets on him. Now, when Porter got
caught, it cost him his place in the
league. I mean, it's just a sad tale.
Now, personally, I think I don't really
think it's a good thing that sports
gambling is uh legal at all. I mean,
that's just one of the reasons why. So,
I hope you enjoyed my uh little rant
there, Tiff. I got plenty more rants,
though. But yeah, I don't think sports
gambling is a good thing even though
it's league. My opinion.
>> All right, we'll have you on for more
hot takes. Moving to NFL news though,
the New York Giants were given a six
figure fine today for violating the
concussion protocol that's surrounding
an evaluation of quarterback Jackson
Dart during a game on October 9th. What
exactly happened here?
>> Yeah, well, Jackson Dart, he was sacked
in the third quarter of that game that
was against Philadelphia. kind of
grabbed at his head while he was on the
ground, signaling that maybe his head
had been injured. So, they brought him
into that blue medical tent that's on
the sideline there. Now, when he's in
there, the only ones are allowed in with
him, the team physician, the team
athletic trainer and an independent
medical specialist. But while Dart was
in there, Giants head coach Brian Dable
approached the tent, stuck his head in,
so did run running back Cam Scatabo as
well. Now, Dable is also in addition
later seen having what looked like an
animated conversation with the team
physician on the sideline while awaiting
word of whether uh Dart would be cleared
to return. Now, the league and the
players association released a statement
saying that those two entering the uh
tent created a perception that they were
interfering with Dart's exam. And even
though they concluded that they didn't
actually interfere with it, the team was
fined $200,000. Dable was fined
$100,000. Scatabo $15,000. So, I'm sure
this is kind of a a reminder to everyone
else. Don't go in the tent. Uh it's
pretty expensive to me, but uh I'm sure
around the league everybody has taken
note of this, so don't do it again.
>> All right, we will watch out for that.
Shifting gears to baseball though,
tonight is game one of the World Series
between the Dodgers and Blue Jays. Now,
what do you make of the starting
pitchers tonight, though? One is a
two-time winner of the Sai Young Award,
the other is a rookie.
>> Yeah, quite the contrast here. Dodgers
are starting Blake Snell, who's been
nearly unhitable in the playoffs. 3-0 in
three starts, 0.886
in 21 innings, just two earned runs
allowed in three games, and yes, he's
won a pair of Sai Young awards. Toronto,
meanwhile, counters with 22-year-old
Trey Yavage. He was our first round
draft pick in June of 2024. He made his
major league debut just last month. He's
the second youngest player ever to start
a World Series game one. Here's what he
said about it earlier. pretty much
called me into his office. Um, said they
have faith in me to run me out there in
the first game and I was fired up. Um,
got up, hugged him, hugged Pete. Um, I
was very excited. No, I mean, I'm pretty
meat and potatoes with it. Um, just keep
it basic. I don't want to be out there
on the mound thinking too much. Um,
because for me, I'm at best when I'm
just blacked out there and not thinking
at all. It's it's something I never even
would have dreamed of. Um, but I'm here
now and I'm embracing it fully and I'm
so happy to be here.
>> Yeah, I'd be hugging the manager too if
he annoyed me the game one starter. But,
you know, as for Toronto though, they're
they are getting back their all-star
shortstop Bob Bashette. He's been out
since September with a knee injury. Uh,
but he is back now. So, a big boost for
their offense here.
>> Sky's the limit for him. For the Dodgers
though, they come in as the favorite and
their big star, Shaotani, comes in on
quite a high following performance in
game four of the NLCS. Yeah, maybe the
greatest individual performance ever in
the playoffs. It's now been a week since
it happened. It almost makes you forget
what happened before that. He came into
that game on quite a slump. Just three
for his last 29 at bats that goes all
the way back to the division series
against the Philadelphia Phillies. Now,
in last year's World Series against the
Yankees, Otani struggled there as well,
but he had that shoulder injury that I
think really could explain it. Now, here
here is his manager uh describing
Otani's performance.
I hope it's uh completely different for
Shi. Um certainly having him healthy
going in is a great thing. Um
I think him kind of feeding off that
last game is a good thing. Um you know,
last year it was just more of just being
able to post and stand in the batters
box and do whatever he could to sort of
help us. um where I think this year he's
equipped to have a big series and um
he's just gonna have to be smart and
disciplined because uh they're going to
pitch him careful and um he's just got
to be smart and if he's disciplined then
it should bode well for him and for all
of us. Um I don't feel like I'm the
villain. Um I was just poking fun at
some people that said that the Dodgers
were ruining baseball. Um clearly I
don't believe that. Um, I think that
baseball is in a great place right now.
Um, very great players. Uh, very
exciting. Viewership is up. Um, this is
going to be a great World Series. So,
um, I was just having a little fun with
people that said that about the Dodgers,
but, uh, I hope I'm not the villain.
>> Yeah, I don't think the Dodgers are the
villains. I mean, the Yankees have been
the villains for quite some time. Seems
to be whatever is the most successful
franchise. Certainly the Dodgers have
been that recently, but the Yankees
really have a hold on who the villain is
in baseball. But anyway, Dodgers versus
Blue Jay tonight, 8:00 p.m. Eastern
time. It'll be in Toronto. So, should be
good.
>> Better let you get to that then.
>> Yes, I need to get get home, start
watching. All right.
>> All right. Well, Davis, thanks for
joining us.
>> Thank you, Tiff.
