This year's fall foliage in New England has been less colorful and vibrant due to unfavorable weather conditions.
Well, the trees have begun to finally
start showing some color, but definitely
not as much as in recent years.
>> Yeah, many of those leaves now on the
ground, showing some bare trees. 22 News
Stormt meteorologist Alexa Biano has a
look at the current fall foliage as we
near peak for most places.
>> Yes, Nick and Sarah. People are enjoying
the fall foliage, but this season didn't
quite live up to the expectations due to
lack of rain and warmer temperatures at
the beginning of the season and
negatively impacted the leaves. But
locals are still taking advantage of the
scenery while others are not as pleased.
>> It's been disappointing. Yeah, it's, you
know, we really like fall. We really
like the foliage. And frankly, it's been
disappointing. Nothing's been great, but
it's probably due to the dry summer.
>> Cold temperatures break down the
chlorophyll in the leaves, which gives
us vibrant colors, unlike warm
temperatures. Drought conditions stress
out the trees, resulting the leaves
changing and peeking earlier with patchy
pops of color. Then the leaves quickly
fall off. So if you want to enjoy the
fall foliage, now is the time to do so,
especially in Franklin and Brookshire
County.
