The November midterm elections are just weeks away, and the state's
gubernatorial candidates are speaking out about multiple local issues.
One topic of high importance is the development
of the new courthouse on Liberty Street in Springfield.
This comes as Hampden County officials sent a letter
to Governor Healey asking her to reconsider the stance on the building.
The project was mentioned during last night's debate, with local
developers airing commercials targeting the governor and the site.
At our 22 News studios this morning, Republican candidate
Mike Minogue calling for new action from the governor.
Respect the sheriffs and law enforcement.
I posted this on my website. I talked about it last night.
She acted like she's never seen it, and so she hasn't seen it,
which is shame on her, or she's lying about it.
But this is, they need a better location for the sheriff's department
to come in and out under protocol safely with prisoners,
with people to go to court.
While in Springfield today, Governor Maura Healey standing
by the decision of the location of the development.
You know what I'm really excited about
is the jobs that it's going to bring.
And of course, the most important thing here,
I said as governor, it's not right that the city of Springfield
and workers in that courthouse should be working in a sick building.
And I set about to make that right.
And we're going to get a new, modern building,
and that's what the city of Springfield and its residents deserve.
The candidates are almost done campaigning
as the midterms quickly approach.
The general election is on November 3rd.
