Pay Them: Sen. Ron Johnson Introduces Bill After Hearing Federal Workers Going to Food Banks
U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) discussed with Steve Lance, NTD Washington, D.C. bureau chief and host of Capitol Report, the strain on federal workers and their families as the government shutdown continues through its 22nd day.
Johnson spoke on the introduction of his Shutdown Fairness Act to pay essential federal workers who are being forced to work without pay. He said he expects Democrats to block it and contrasts it to how President Donald Trump is trying to make the shutdown as painless as possible by looking for pots of money to pay workers.
Johnson says Republicans came to the negotiating table with nothing more to negotiate, while Democrats want $1.5 trillion in spending. The Senate failed on Wednesday, for the 12th time, to pass the continuing resolution that would set spending at Biden-era levels, something Democrats previously voted for 13 times.
