After a “vote-a-rama” on amendments to the reconciliation bill, the U.S. Senate passed legislation to provide $70 billion to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other immigration enforcement. In a Friday morning vote, the Senate approved the measure 52–47. All Republicans voted for the measure, and all Democrats except for Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), who did not vote, voted against it.
The U.S. labor market remained hot in May as the hiring momentum continued heading into the summer. New government data released on June 5 shows the economy added 172,000 new jobs last month, from the upwardly revised 179,000 positions in April. Economists had penciled in a reading of 85,000.
