When I bought the Firebox Ford, (1966 F-100 4X4 Single Cab Short Box) it was bone stock... I could do anything I wanted with it... Mechanically, I wanted it to be what the forest service may have built back in the 60's Heavy duty springs all around and the tall tires, "Pizza Cutters". That much was planned from the start. As for the camper aspect, That started when I had Vanya make a basic rack from some left overs I needed a way of covering the goats in case it rained. We had enough marine grade plywood leaning in the corner to get the job done. Vanya and I hand bent some galvanized conduit and found the right (gold colored) waxed canvas at the farm store for the canopy. It worked well and looked very period correct. One day I noticed that the support legs extended all the way down to the bed of the truck. I measured 13 inched that the canopy could be raised and still be well supported in the stake pockets. That's how the camper project got started. I wanted it to look as though a handy / crafty outdoorsman made in his car-port back in the 70's. The Hot Tent Canvas Convertible Camper was handmade here at Firebox headquarters by our in house master-craftsman who also makes many Firebox products meticulously one at a time. The very talented Vanya Swap. By the way, he started his own YouTube channel where he takes on projects at his home shop: https://youtube.com/@vanyaswapp3197?si=NO4Yxsw0LbRA1G7Y Give him a watch and a follow, he's a good hearted person who's humanity overflows with generosity.
In this camping adventure video, I tested two new camp cooking concepts, one we're calling "Hangover Trivet Sticks" the other is adapting the fun new Reflector Oven to the Classic 5" Firebox Stove. The Hangover sticks can hook into any of the deep slots around the top of the 5" Firebox Stove. We also make a version for our Freestyle line of stoves. Used in pairs to create a pot, pan, or grill support just inside or just outside any side of the stove. They make it possible to use the "Reflector Oven Kit" with the classic, our flagship product, and still #1 most popular after over 15 years! The amazing and bombproof original, The 5"G2 Firebox Stove. My oven setup took some tweaking to better control air flow but in the end it worked flawlessly! Such fun to bake and cook at the same time! Stay tuned as to not miss the release of these very useful new additions to the evermore versatile 5"G2 Firebox folding wood flame type stove.

Since I couldn't catch any fish, I got
to set my steak out in the sun and try
Got to get it to thaw.
You want some steak, Maggie?
Good girl.
Let's go get you some food. Come on.
There you go. Okay.
[Applause]
I have a cool new setup to try with the
5-in firebox.
Right there.
Right there. That's creating a little
tray right there. Kind of a funny shape.
They go in to these slots here. They can
actually go anywhere. They're kind of
like the hangover sticks for the
freestyle.
So you could put them inwards.
You could put them aiming outwards. They
only work in these deeper slots.
If they also work underneath the wind
damper, there are some slots there. You
slide that little piece through.
Then you can put your wind damper down.
It's okay if they swing outwards like
that. That's okay. That's actually even
better because that'll provide more
support for your grill or for whatever
you put over there. You can put your
grill
right on top of there like that. What
I'm most excited about is being able to
use it as an oven.
This is my baking air bake pan. the pan
that has an air space
in between it to protect it uh from the
heat a little bit. Put your fire pan tin
as your oven lid
or in this case or at least the first
part of this evening. I plan on using
this as a grill.
Little bit of a Swedish fire torch.
[Applause]
And I'm kind of more excited about this
for baking than I am for grilling. But I
did realize that it would work for
grilling as well. So that's why I wanted
to try it.
So, let me show you back behind.
I've got those hot coals just sitting on
the ash pan.
My table got ruined.
So, I moved down here to the ground and
I'm going to get my steak going. I
figured I may as well wrap this
windscreen around
my grill here
just to keep that heat in.
I like I say, I think it would work fine
without it. Just a matter of how fast
you want your steak to cook.
Put a couple of more pieces of wood in
on top of those hot coals
just to get a flame going.
Let's take a look at our steak.
Keep turning it so it cooks slowly.
We have a boil
and get our green beans cooking.
Turn my steak.
A few moments later,
>> my beans are done and I think my steak
is done. Take my steak out
and I'm going to lower my
oven lid.
I'm going to put my plate right there.
And I'm going to go ahead and put this
steak on my cold plate because I think
my steak's getting overcooked and I want
to stop the cooking.
Salt
and some pepper.
And I am ready to eat. Now, I don't even
know what kind of steak this is.
It said mock tenders or mock tender
steak. Now, that piece actually looks
pretty decent.
That's good.
Good girl.
>> Good girl. It's getting pretty dark, but
I'm going to try to do some cinnamon
rolls. We need to get some more hot
coals
down here on our tray.
And that should be plenty.
Put our air bake baking pan
in place. Move the stove forward just
slightly so we
have plenty of air gap back here.
There it goes.
H maybe we could even fit
more than two.
Ah, let's just go with two. That'll be
plenty.
Let's check our cinnamon rolls. They
look like they're doing really good.
They look like they need more time,
though.
and let them work. I think our cinnamon
rolls are done.
They look really good.
Yep, I think they're done.
Cream cheese frosting.
I have some rosemary. I'm just going to
kind of pick this rosemary into tiny
little pieces.
Just put just the teeniest accent.
Can hear the crunch.
Oh wow, that is good.
I don't know if I've caught the rosemary
yet.
Didn't really catch that flavor.
That's good.
[Music]
Go back.
Good morning.
Good girl.
It's 700 a.m. I'm going to go see if I
can catch a fish this morning. This
isn't the way I'm going to walk to the
lake, but I just wanted to get a shot of
this.
Just incredible.
Beautiful
morning.
Well, I'll trudge over there to that end
of the lake. That's the deepest spot,
best spot for fishing.
[Applause]
When that sun came out, It got hot.
Time to shed a layer.
I feel better already. We didn't catch
any fish, but I sure tried. I'm not
getting any bites at all. Lots of fish
here. It's time to make some coffee.
And this morning I'm gonna do biscuits
and gravy. Really looking forward to it.
But first we need to feed Maggie.
That's what she's doing. She's asking to
be fed. Okay.
This is the first time that I've used
the 5-in firebox in this setup.
And you can see I'll kind of rotate
that.
You can see the way the ash pan is in
there. And then I've got these overhang
or hangover sticks.
So, the mistake I made that I wanted to
change for this morning was I had these
sides open. So, even though I had my
airbake pan
in its position,
I didn't realize how much heat I was
losing down here. These are open right
here. So, what I realized I could do is
kind of flap these corners out so that I
could get this
right up against the stove.
So, that'll keep a lot more of that heat
in my oven section
instead of allowing it to to flow out
the sides. Who knows? There could have
even been like a little bit of a breeze
that could push that heat right out and
away from there. So, this is the setup
I'm going to run with this morning.
[Applause]
Looks like we have a boil.
Coffee time.
That's good.
[Applause]

All right, let's go put them in the
oven. This fire is perfect.
So, I'm going to move some of these hot
coals
down onto my tray.
These biscuits are pretty big, so
I'm going to
put quite a bit of heat back here. And
I'll set our
air bake pan
into its position.
And we can go ahead and put our biscuits
in.
These biscuits are big.
This will be a good challenge for this
system.
Let those guys work.
And I'm just going to use these hot
coals
to slowly heat up my milk.
It'll be perfect.
Nice. This is rue that I made at home.
And you see it's pretty hard, but it
should melt into this milk.
I'm going to put just a little bit more.
There's another little piece of R.
Get some salt and pepper.
Looks like it's starting to thicken up.
Let's see how it tastes.
Perfect.
So good. Let's take a look at our
biscuits.
They're looking really good. Wow. I
wonder if they're done. It's hard to
imagine. They're so big. It seems like
they take longer than that.
Beautiful.
Let's just see. Oh yeah. I think those
biscuits are done.
Let's just finish off this gravy
and I think we'll be ready to eat.
All right, that gravy has thickened up
now. I hope the sausage will cool it
down a little bit, too. It's a little
too hot. I don't want it to break. I got
plenty of sausage. This will be a nice
hearty breakfast.
There we go. Our gravy is ready. Look at
that beautiful gravy. I'm going to set
my gravy aside
so that I can get my biscuits out. Those
biscuits are hot.
And I think we'll just
do it right there. That's a breakfast
fit for a king, huh? Look at that. Holy
smokes. I don't know if I'm going to be
able to eat all this.
Let's just break this up a little bit.
Wow, these biscuits turned out great.
Beautiful.
All right.
And this gravy turned out very nice,
too.
This is shaping up to be a beautiful
breakfast.
Wow. Holy smokes. There is no way I'm
going to be able to finish that.
Wow.
That is absolutely fabulous.
Try some, Maggie,
here. I'll give you some.
Is that hot?
This plate is so hot. I have to have a
glove.
Let's go eat this over by the lake.
