Welcome to Paris.
You have to prepare yourself
because this video will make your mouth water
because we are finding the best pastries
at a patisserie or a viennoiserie in Paris.
The bakeries, the patisseries here,
they are so gorgeous and there are so many.
There's a bakery, patisserie at every corner,
at every street.
So we just had the best times of our lives here
finding stuff to stuff our faces with
because that's what we do here on Stuffer.
We stuff our faces all around the world
and in this video, we'll focus on patisserie,
pastries in Paris.
Subscribe right now and let's get started.
It's raining outside,
so we decided to go to a patisserie or a viennoiserie
to get some French pastries
because pastries in Paris,
they go together hand in hand.
And actually the word viennoiserie,
you might say like, that sounds a bit like Vienna.
Yeah, that's true
because it's actually the Viennese people
that came to Paris and brought some sweets along with them
and that's how the whole viennoiserie
and patisserie culture here in Paris started
and it exploded because now it is a thing
that you can't go without.
Every street or every corner of the street
has a patisserie or viennoiserie
where you can get all of these amazing pastries.
And we got a plate full.
I have a lemon meringue pie.
I have a tart framboise,
which is a raspberry cake filled and topped with raspberries.
I have a clafoutis.
A clafoutis is a very fluffy and thick apple pie.
You have different variations of apple pies here in France,
but this is a very airy and nice and thick one.
And I have some chouquettes,
which are these fluffy things filled with custard cream.
Really good.
And I'm just gonna start with this thing
because I already had it in my hand.
This is a chouquette
and this one looks really good and really...
Oh, wow.
They remind me a little bit of those Dutch,
we call them souches,
which are also filled with custard,
but those are mostly filled with whipped cream,
but I prefer them with custard.
Really nice.
And this, the dough actually is really, really nice
because it's a little bit gooey,
which it needs to be,
and sticky and really nice.
Really good.
I'm digging in to the clafoutis,
which is the apple pie,
the really fluffy apple pie.
This is actually really typical French,
so make sure to go to a pâtisserie and get a clafoutis.
It's very cakey and airy.
You also have the tartatin,
which is the puff pastry with apple slices,
which is really flat.
So this is a totally different experience.
Very airy.
Apple pie is one of my favorites anyway.
And this is really nice because it has that cake texture,
but then with loads and loads of chunks of apple mixed in.
So it's really, there's still that airy cake quality.
Really nice.
I'm in pâtisserie heaven.
I can't help it.
Turning the plate.
Ooh, the tarte framboise.
So the raspberry cake is a little bit hard.
It has a thicker,
more like a crusty cookie layer on top.
It has a little bit of custard as well
to keep the raspberries from falling off.
I have a really big spoon here.
Wow.
The bottom is not that hard.
It was hard to get through,
but it's a little bit like a sand cookie,
but a little bit fluffier, not as dry.
It's completely not dry.
And the flavor of the cookie
combined with the custard and the raspberries,
the fresh raspberries, really good, sweet.
And also a little bit tart.
This is really, really, really good.
Oh my God.
I'm sorry.
I'm having a good time with my life.
I don't care if this video will be ages and ages.
I'm just enjoying myself here.
And why shouldn't I?
I'm in Paris, right?
Lemon meringue pie.
I think I'm gonna die after this.
And it's so nice that the meringue has burned a little bit.
It's so super gooey and super fluffy on the inside,
but it's a little bit crunchy on the outside.
This is just perfect.
Oh my God.
Look at this plate.
I don't need dinner tonight.
I can just eat this.
So we're starting the day with even more pastries.
I have here an opera and this is a Paris-Brest.
And Paris-Brest is like the name
of also like a famous bicycle tournament
going from Paris to Brest,
which is like a coastal place.
So that's where the name comes from.
So it has almonds on top and it's a puff dough,
not puff pastry, puff dough.
And there's a praline cream in between.
And it looks very, very good.
Oh, I'm getting a little help, huh, Nana?
Yeah, let's dig in.
That's quite hard.
I don't know if I should use a spoon, actually.
I think that's not really helpful.
I think I should just take a bite.
Oh, that's not that hard.
Oh yeah, oh God, I love this.
It's even, I think especially the bottom layer
is also a little tiny bit crispy as well,
which gives us a really nice extra.
I think there's also something like,
maybe like a chocolate cream or something underneath.
Really nice, really fresh.
Oh, I love the tiny crunch.
Wow, this is amazing.
I've never had this before, but I want this again.
I have a visitor today, Nana's with me,
because whenever I'm tasting patisserie,
she wants, look, oh, she's so cute.
She wants something as well.
You know how sometimes things can go wrong?
Well, I had that happen to me today.
It went terribly wrong,
because I had my eye on this éclair
by l'Éclair de Genie at Galerie Lafayette,
at the gourmet building,
because they have separate buildings, Galerie Lafayette.
I wanted the caramel, the salted caramel éclair,
because that's supposedly the best one they sell.
And then it's already €6.50, so it's quite expensive.
You can get éclairs all over Paris for much less money.
But then I saw the salted caramel with passion fruit,
and it looks so beautiful.
So I just had to buy two.
Oh my God.
Wow, the taste explodes in your mouth.
The saltiness is really, really there.
I love that.
And then the caramel flavor.
The dough is also really, really nice and sturdy.
Not dry, but nice and sturdy.
Wow.
Wow, wow, wow.
I am so happy that I bought two,
because I don't want to share this with Tim.
This is too good.
But now I'm going to try.
And he's looking really angry right now.
I will share, of course.
This is the passion fruit and salted caramel inside.
This looks so beautiful.
Passion fruit is on the outside.
Really, really perfect.
The inside is less evident,
because the passion fruit,
it really gives it that extra freshness.
So the salted caramel is a little bit more
to the background, which is nice.
But if you want to have that real salted caramel
taste explosion, then you have to go for the regular one.
But this one is gorgeous because of the passion fruit.
But I have to say, I think I prefer the regular one,
because I was really going for that salted caramel vibe.
But this one is really nice as well.
So the next one is an opera.
I've seen it quite a few times,
but I've never had it before.
It's kind of obvious that there's also
like coffee flavor in there,
because there's a coffee bean on top.
So it's based on almond cake,
and it's soaked in coffee syrup,
which you can see.
So it has almost like a look of tiramisu a little bit.
So when you take a bite or a piece,
then it's a lot softer than I thought.
And there's also, by the way,
chocolate ganache in the middle,
where I just scooped off a little bit.
There was also actually like a little bit of liquid,
like moist coming out,
but then it was soaked up in again,
which is very interesting.
Oh, really creamy.
This is good.
As I said, like the idea and the look
is kind of similar to tiramisu.
And I would say also the taste is also kind of similar.
It's not as moist as tiramisu.
And I would say the chocolate flavor
is also more intense for a tiramisu.
But it's kind of similar.
So this is like a really nice portion-shaped tiramisu,
French style, I would say, like,
but I really love it.
It's really good.
I would also definitely buy this again.
France, but this is the taste test
between two heavyweights in Le Marais,
or actually in the whole of Paris,
Jean-Paul Evin and Ladurée,
which are both household names here in Paris.
Even I have heard of Ladurée.
Exactly.
We once had a hot chocolate there, but...
So, Jean-Paul.
Is it the same?
Evin, Evin, Evin, Evin, I'm sorry, I'm butchering it.
This is, because it's a chocolate shop,
so they have chocolate macarons.
So this is a chocolate macaron from Jean-Paul and Evin,
because it's a chocolate shop, so...
Makes sense.
Cheers.
It's crumbling.
Very intense chocolate flavor.
It's dark chocolate.
It almost has a brownie feeling to it
because of the gooeyness of the macaron,
but the quality of the macaron is really, really good.
Even darker and less sweet than a brownie.
I really love this, I have to say.
I love this.
I'm putting this back on the plate and eat it later.
I like it, but I'm not that huge fan
of so much dark chocolate.
Oh, I love that.
At Ladurée, our eyes were attracted to this blue one.
Immediately.
I immediately wanted to know what flavor it was,
and it sounded amazing, so we got it.
Rose.
Honey.
Honey and citrus.
So that combination, super awesome, I hope.
What's the, is it chocolate on there, or what is it?
I don't know.
Oh, that's maybe the rose petals.
Oh, yeah.
Try it.
Oh, wow.
Also, the texture is really different than this one.
The layer in between is gooey and more softer,
so it's more distinct from the different layers,
and this, in Champollet Viens,
the layers seem to mesh together a little bit
because of the gooeyness of the macaron
and the gooeyness of the caramel.
I think this is one of my new favorites.
Exactly.
This wins, by far.
Wow, I love it.
La Duree.
These were also the most expensive ones,
or no, they were the same price as the other ones.
I think this one was $2.50.
Yeah, this is a winner.
So get your rose, citrus, and honey macaron.
I have a little bonus,
because Champollet Viens is such a well-known chocolatier.
His name is on the chocolates.
It's on the chocolate.
So I had to buy a chocolate there as well.
This one is filled with three types of orange.
Three types of orange?
And I love chocolate and orange together, so.
Ooh, and the chocolate itself.
You can really taste the quality of the chocolate.
But it's also like a chocolate mousse or something in there,
and there is the orange.
Awesome.
So, our verdict.
For the chocolate, go to Champollet Viens.
For the macaron, go to La Maduree.
So, new day, more pâtisserie,
but we saw this on our first day.
There was this really, really awesome pâtisserie,
and this just jumped into my face
when I walked past the window.
Probably that's why they put it in the window, anyway.
It's a pavlova exotique,
and pavlova is that meringue,
and it has lemon whipped cream.
It has mango coulis,
and it has fresh mint shaved over it.
It looked amazing.
We splurged a little bit.
It was seven euros.
So, that whole plate that I had yesterday was 11 euros,
and this is seven euros.
So, it is a lot.
I'm gonna dig in.
Ooh.
I thought I was gonna have to push quite hard,
but actually, it's okay.
Of course, I'm destroying it now.
These flavors will probably be awesome.
Mm, mm.
Mm.
Passion fruit as well.
Oh.
Wow.
And the fresh mint, you can taste it is fresh mint,
and it just amplifies the whole thing,
and the passion fruit gives it such a nice sourness to it.
The meringue is not too hard.
It is really gooey on the inside still.
This is worth seven euros.
Well, it's a lot, but it's really, really, really good.
I can't even begin to explain how good this is.
Well, that's it for the pastries.
I'm really sad that we have to leave Paris,
and I don't have these patisseries
and bakeries around the corner from where we live anymore
because it has been amazing,
and I could have tried even more,
but yeah, there was not enough time,
so we'll definitely have to come back to Paris
to try more pastries because it is mind-blowingly gorgeous.
