Vivaldi: Violin Concerto in E Minor RV 278. II. Largo. Augusta McKay Lodge, baroque violin 8K

The plangent Largo from Vivaldi's E Minor violin concerto. 8K video from our March 2024 concert. Augusta McKay Lodge, baroque violin. Vivaldi's mature style is evident in this concerto from circa 1730 which is characterized by a wide range of textures and dynamics. Compact and fluent, the solo violin is the leader throughout with the ripieno providing a complex and layered rhythmic backdrop. The only source is the composer's holograph Turin manuscript, which means that the concerto was not widely known, and possibly a commission, but, nonetheless, this is an exceptionally fine composition.
