This week we are back in NYC sharing some culture! We've invited back two of the students from our American Highschool video to try some Chinese BBQ for the first time ever. From cha siu to crispy pork belly, white cut chicken to roasted duck- they are going to try them all today.

This has more taste. This is more bland.
Yeah, I like it.
It has on the kick. I like the sauce.
These are American high school students
trying Chinese barbecue for the first time.
Meet Darnell and Jaden,
two American high school students from Harlem, New York,
who had never had good Chinese food.
I never really had no good Chinese food before.
If ramen counts, then get ramen.
But other than that, I never really had it.
I like Pin Express. I love Pin Express.
Of all places in New York City.
So, as a channel that stands for sharing culture,
I wanted to take them to try some authentic Chinese cuisine
and open up their world a bit.
And the first stop on our list,
one of my favorites, Cantonese-style Chinese barbecue.
You go, you go, you go.
Thank you.
All right, so what are your first impressions, man,
coming into this spot?
When I first walked in, it was the aroma.
It was the smell. It smelled really good.
Yeah, I was looking around.
I was just looking around.
It smelled good. It smelled real good.
So one distinctive thing,
if you notice about a Chinese barbecue spot,
by that window over there,
you guys see that window in the back?
So they always display their meats and foods
right in front of you.
And then when you walk by,
you could be able to visually see it.
And then you can decide if you want to come in or not.
I know, Darnell, that you cannot eat pork.
Unfortunately, Chinese barbecue,
a huge chunk of it is going to be pork.
So you'll be living vicariously through Jayden.
You have to be watching him.
But we do have some chicken dishes
and some duck dishes that you can eat.
I definitely want to try duck.
I feel like there's multiple things
on my list I want to try.
I'm always open to trying new things.
I feel like if you eat the same thing,
you're just stuck in the same mindset.
I'm trying to grow.
I also want to try duck too.
Like, I do want to try new countries,
China, Japan. It's just so interesting.
I mean, we both want to do that
and we both have similar goals
and I hope we succeed it.
I can't wait. I'm excited.
This is your first meal.
All right.
Ginger scallion sauce.
Ginger scallion, we got duck sauce
and we got soy sauce.
Yeah, we got a soy sauce.
Is it spicy?
No, it's not spicy.
It's not spicy, don't worry.
Okay, which one do you guys want to start with first?
I want to try chicken first.
Okay, let's do the chicken.
Oh, she got you two forks just in case.
Yeah, let me show you how to use chopsticks if I can.
People always flame me on the internet
because there's so many ways to hold chopsticks.
Traditionally, you want to be parallel
so your chopsticks don't cross.
But the best way I explain it
is that you want to rest the bottom one
and then you want to move the top one.
Yeah, I remember you told me to rest it right here.
The other one is like a god.
Rest it right here
and then put these two fingers on over here, right?
And then just grab.
Once you start crossing, it's going to get very difficult.
Okay, what we're going to start with
is the free range chicken or the white cut chicken.
They call it the white cut chicken.
So this is regular chicken?
This is just regular chicken, right?
Yeah, you got it.
You're good.
Well, they call it free range chicken
because of the fact that it's non-caged.
Oh, look at that.
Just eat it, just eat it, just eat it.
There's a little bit of bone in there.
You might want to spit it out.
Your bone.
The bone called your garlic.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
How do you like the ginger scallion sauce?
That's the thing I want to worry about
because the chicken itself
is not going to have that much flavor.
But with the ginger scallion sauce,
it's like a complete game changer.
I like the ginger scallion sauce.
The chicken doesn't really have that much flavor,
but the sauce makes it spark.
Yeah? I like it.
I didn't expect it to be not cold,
but it's not hot.
It's not hot.
The bone, it really catches me off guard
because I think it's soft.
Because you look at it, it looks very soft.
Yeah.
When you bite it, it's like bone.
It was probably about like a seven.
If it was hot, I feel like it would be like an eight or nine.
Eight or nine.
Okay.
So what can you say in Mandarin?
What do you guys want to learn to say?
Or how do you say, how do you say,
I enjoyed the food?
Heng hao chi.
Yeah.
Hao chi means delicious.
Heng is very.
Very delicious.
Heng hao chi.
Chi.
It's one of the hardest things to pronounce
because you're rolling your tongue.
Chi.
So that's Mandarin, right?
Wait, is that how you pronounce it?
You got a good pronunciation?
Okay.
So this is by a Cantonese speaker.
Is that how you say it in Cantonese?
Hou shi.
Oh, how do you say it again?
Hou shi.
Dou zi means thank you.
All right.
Dou zi.
This is the next dish.
This is a pork dish.
Okay.
So you're gonna have to live vicariously through Jaden.
This is personally one of my favourite dishes to eat.
It's the holy grail of Cantonese sumi,
which is Cantonese barbecue.
Oh, look at that.
So this is eaten.
You can eat it on its own first.
Try the pork.
And then you dip some hoisin sauce on it.
Hoisin.
Oh, look at that.
You gotta eat the whole piece, man.
Because you gotta get the crunch.
Oh, look at that.
Russell was like,
what did I just eat?
I like it.
He says he likes it.
I thought it was gonna be bony.
Yeah.
When you first eat it,
you're gonna taste the meat.
And the meat is really good.
It's similar to chicken?
Yeah, but when you chew it,
and then you start tasting the skin.
Now you gotta try it with the hoisin sauce,
which is right over there.
What is that?
Hoisin sauce is a...
How do you even describe a hoisin sauce?
It's a oyster sauce.
It looks like barbecue.
Yeah, it does.
Like barbecue...
It's typically used for glazing meat.
What did he say?
It's...
There's a lot of variants,
but it's made with soybeans, fennel,
red chilli peppers, and garlic.
Vinegar and five-spice powder are also added in there.
I wish.
You can taste it, but I know you can't.
It's part of my religion.
It's mostly because of the big spiritual thing of...
Yeah.
Beautiful thing is like,
even though you guys come from two different belief systems,
and he's eating it,
we can also like...
Come together as one.
I definitely don't hate on anybody who eats pork.
It's their food, they love it.
Same thing, I like beef.
Like people who don't like meat at all.
Yeah.
No?
Yeah, vegetarian.
It's the way they live.
But I gotta tell you something.
There, in the northwest part of China,
right, in the Xinjiang area,
it's called the Xinjiang area,
they eat a...
They're also very Muslim,
and they eat a lot of lamb.
Me, I love lamb.
You love lamb?
Yes.
So it's lamb, beef, chicken.
Ooh, okay, you'll like it.
I mean, so I'm gonna rate this.
Yeah.
I like the consistency, and I like the skin.
It's not too overbearing, the skin,
but I feel like it's the perfect balance.
And with the sauce, it definitely adds a kick.
Yeah.
I love this.
I rate this an eight.
Okay, so now we're gonna try the final chicken dish,
which is the ginger scallion chicken.
This chicken is a little different than that chicken,
in terms of the fact that it is already seasoned.
And I'm guessing this has more chicken, too.
I mean, more bone inside, too.
I think you should try it on its own first.
Give some thoughts.
It's a regular chicken.
Like, regular chicken.
Yeah.
It tastes like regular chicken.
Any different than the first one you had?
The free-range, or the white cut chicken?
The other one had, I would say, more seasoning in this one.
Oh, really?
I don't think it's...
It just...
This has more taste.
This is more bland,
and I feel like you need the sauce to kick it.
So you guys probably asked some ginger scallion sauce.
The first time trying.
I'm trying to explain to him, it's the first time trying.
Is it good?
It's good.
Very good.
So guys, we're gonna introduce a new segment in this video.
We have a community on Patreon, right?
That's the one that you join to watch the videos for early access.
Yes.
And we call them the EA Gang.
So every week, we try to answer some questions that they have,
that they may have for our guests and you guys.
And this week, how many questions do we have from the EA Gang?
We have two questions from the EA Gang.
So the first question is by Victor Chan, who's a big fan.
He asks questions every week.
So, love the first video of the series.
Since Chinese barbecue might look pretty strange to foreigners,
can you ask them if they had any stereotypes about Chinese food
before trying and what they thought about it after trying?
Kung Fu Panda.
Kung Fu Panda?
Yeah, Kung Fu Panda.
Tell us the dish.
No, I told all the dishes.
He had like dumplings, just the same exact thing.
Oh, so you watch Kung Fu Panda
and that's how you kind of open yourself up to the culture, right?
And now that you've had it, has that changed your perception?
I mean, we're only halfway through the menu, but has it changed?
It's pretty good.
I expected it to be like, not sour,
but how would I say, like to a point where I don't like it.
Like it's too different where I don't like it.
Yeah.
But it just seems, it tastes similar.
It just, I feel like every food is kind of similar.
It's just that way, how it's presented is different.
I thought the Chinese food was going to be like bland,
but now the sauce are good.
You dip it in the sauce and it's really tasteful.
Yeah.
This guy off camera was like trying to get all the rice.
The rice are really good with the soy sauce.
I love the combo.
Second question comes from Caroline.
Okay.
Caroline asks,
ask them if they like this more
or Chinese food they've had in the past more.
Which one do you guys like more?
Like I've stated, I've never really had true Chinese food.
This was my first time really having it.
And I think it's pretty good for my first time.
Okay.
That's it for the question for this round.

That's kind of the goal.
Okay.
So join the Yihey gang
and click the link in the description box below.
Now we got two other dishes.
Okay.
You guys ready?
Yes, sir.
Now we're going to get to the duck.
Is this duck?
Yes.
You guys will try duck for the first time.
Now look, so when you come here to order, right,
it always gets served a side of veggies,
a rice, and then a meat.
So you got your proteins, you got your fibers,
and then of course you got your carbs.
I think I mastered this little...
Chopstick.
Yeah.
So you guys both try duck for the very first time.
It tastes like chicken.
I like it.
It's pretty fatty.
It's very fatty.
That's a good observation.
I know this taste from somewhere.
It tastes familiar.
It tastes like real chicken.
That's what I'm saying.
That's what I said.
I agree.
Yeah, I wasn't expecting this to be like regular chicken.
It's good though.
It's good?
I like it.
Okay, so now you guys got to dip it in the duck sauce.
So that's a duck sauce.
Dip it in the duck sauce.
And then now you guys go for it.
Look at the juice.
It is so juicy.
As on the kick, I like the sauce.
It's exactly like a duck.
It has more flavor to the meat.
And it is like juicy, tender,
and the bone is like juicy too.
And there's a lot of bone marrow.
Yeah.
So how they make this is that they actually
season the carcass.
So the inside of the duck.
They'll seal it.
They'll roast it.
So you get flavor all around.
Not just kind of on the outside,
but flavor in the meat as well.
Something I realized so far,
with all the meat so far,
they have like a candy layer on the top.
That's a good observation.
Everything's just a tiny bit sweet, right?
Just a tinge of sweetness.
And I think that having a tinge of sweetness
really brings out the rest of the flavor.
Yeah, I like this.
I like the duck really good.
Yeah, I like the duck.
Really good?
Okay, so now you guys got to try it like this, okay?
Let me give you guys the...
So you got to try some of those.
You got to pour some of the soy sauce over there.
Try it with the duck and a little bit of veggies.
And then eat that all together in one bite.
It's really good.
Good?
You like the soy sauce?
So much healthier than like a fried rice.
You know what I mean?
Like chicken wings, deep fried.
It's pretty good.
You got the veggies.
I like the combo.
I love the combo.
You love the combo, right?
I like the combo.
Do you guys prefer duck more or chicken more?
Duck.
Duck?
Really?
What about the duck is better than chicken?
The only thing I don't like is the oil.
Because I don't like too much oil.
Yeah.
But it's pretty good.
So what would you guys rate that compared to the chicken?
It's better.
Yeah, it was better.
I give it an eight.
Eight and a half.
And the chicken, I forgot to rate the chicken.
The chicken, I give it a seven.
I feel like the duck, it was just too much fat.
But how is it with the rice now?
But with the rice, it's an interesting perspective.
I love it.
I mean, the oil seeps into the rice and the vegetables.
And it just makes it, overall, a good meal.
The last dish on the item, on the menu.
This is called char siu.
What do you think of that as you're eating it?
When I think about it, this is not my favorite dish.
I'm not saying it's nasty in any kind of way.
I like it, but it's not up there in my tier list.
What would you give this a rating of?
A seven.
I like everything here.
It was not one part I was like, I did not like.
I love all the foods here.
For me, I like the experience and the opportunity
to do new things and eat new foods.
And I love it.
I'm truly grateful for this experience.
There's many more days to come, as we said.
It's really good.
Okay, so top dish of the day.
Something that you will come back, you will 100% get.
The duck.
Definitely will come back.
If you want my rating, I'd give it like,
my first list would be the duck.
I would say the first chicken we had,
and then this chicken, and then you.
How about you?
Duck, this, this chicken, this chicken,
and then this chicken, and then this is last.
Okay, okay.
So I hope you guys enjoyed it.
You guys want to do the outro?
Since you're in front of the camera?
Okay, you know how to do it?

And until next time,
Tai Jian.
We tried this drink, it's like a,
it's like a bowl inside.
You gotta push it very hard.
Yeah, you gotta push it down.
You gotta push it very hard, I wanna try that.
You wanna try that?
Okay, grab one of those.
I'm thinking about trying this.
Oh, this is pretty good.
This is a Chinese drink.
This is a game changer.
This is, this is literally a game changer.
You never had this, right?
I never had that.
