Welcome to a peaceful day in the garden with my chickens... well, peaceful until the cauliflower came out.
In this video, I take you through the daily hen routine - feeding, watering, free-ranging - and the little moments that make backyard chicken keeping both calming and completely ridiculous.
Whether you're here for the slow living vibes or a laugh at the sheer chaos these girls bring, there's something in this one for you.
Stick around for the cauliflower scene - it gets... competitive.

Today I was prepared for a chill daily chicken routine, but the hens had other plans.
Mornings at Cluckingham Palace are usually peaceful.
I know what you're probably thinking, how do I distinguish the different chickens?
Sue is one of our two new girls we recently rescued. She is the darkest of the chickens.
Eileen, the other new girl, has a patch on her neck.
Wendy is recognisable by her bald patch on her lower back.
Helen has this semi-circular white bottom.
Barbara is famous for her floppy comb. Sheila has the standout Mohican comb.
And Mary is just the unassuming, normal looking chicken.
The daily jobs are to refill the chickens bowls of feed.
I sprinkle through some calcium grit to help build up their strength.
It's always a mad rush the second that bowl touches the ground.
I also must refill their water, washing out some of that algae that has busted.
These hens have absolutely no sense of hygiene. That's your water, not a pond to splash about in.
Look, if I have to do these unglamorous chicken chores,
you're coming along for the ride too. You're welcome.
But honestly, these slow and grounding routines are a big part of what I love about keeping hens.
I thought I'd have a moment out here with the chickens. Things have been pretty busy lately.
What with my photography, and excitingly setting up my Etsy shop,
and of course dreaming of the future, small holding, a bit of land.
Whoa! Hey!
So yeah, with my photography, I've been busy at the laptop, sifting through
five years of photographs to find my best ones, to edit and produce as prints,
some artwork, some wall art. I set the shop up yesterday, and I'm going for good vibes,
outdoorsy, nature and wildlife prints. As well as buying supplies for that,
I've obviously been collecting the eggs, popping them into egg boxes out for the Honesty Box.
Everyone that walks past has a look into the Honesty Box to have a see if they're going to
be lucky and get the eggs of the day. That brings in some cash, and I'm hoping as well as
that the Etsy shop with the prints is going to bring in a bit of money as well,
towards some future projects with the funds from that.
My dream is of course a rural small holding, chickens, goats, pigs, outdoor cats, dogs,
lots of nature, wildlife. That's the driving force and motivation for a lot recently.
Growing my own food, fruit and veg as well.
Obviously there's a long way to go yet. Now the chores are done,
let's set up some chicken enrichment. First I brought in this old mirror into the chicken run,
so the chickens could see something new, their reflections.
Who's that? Who's that?
Now this next enrichment, I didn't expect to be such a hit with the girls.
Mrs, it's not ready yet. Goodness me, you're eager.
so it's time to give them some more space and let them free range in the garden for a bit.
Come on. We're free.
There goes the neighbor's dog providing this video soundtrack again.
Sheila, watch it. That's my camera lens. Hey, you leave Eileen alone. Come here,
sweetheart. You're okay. I've got you. I've got you. It's all right.
She's so sweet. She comes running when she gets a bit nervous. Whilst the hens are pottering,
doing their own thing, I like to slow down and zoom in on the wildlife in the rest of the garden.
This is just what I love about chickens. Chickens won't be rushed, and that's what
I'm learning from them. Whether it's in projects or in the long term, it's nice to just slow down
and chill. Thank you for watching. Make sure to subscribe to follow along with our other videos.
