all right today we're gonna be doing a
word form slash reading numbers to the
billions whole numbers only decimals
will be a separate video so this might
be new to you or might be practice for
you or maybe you're not confident so
you're coming here for a little extra
into our instruction wherever you're at
trust me with practice you'll get this
down and you'll be good to go so if
you're struggling or even if you're
struggling with me today through the
first couple and you're not sure what
I'm doing just stick with it you'll get
it down so your goal after these videos
is to be able to read and write numbers
up to the billions okay so this is part
one and we have four numbers we're gonna
do we're gonna follow up part one with
the part two which will be similar to
this video if you need a little extra
practice and after part two we'll be the
practice video where you'll do some on
your own and see if you have it down
okay
so hopefully by the practice video
you'll be able to read and write numbers
up to the billions on your own okay
alright so as you can see we have four
numbers here and there's a place value
chart above each number those place
value charts will help us out as we
first learn and first practice these if
you like using place value charts and
you have like homework or classwork that
you want to use these on just go to
google and type in place value chart up
to the billions and they have tons of
options so this arrow says yeah that's
our place value chart here we're gonna
start with number one here and I'm gonna
write it in my place value chart and
that's gonna help me read and write that
number okay now knowing your periods
one's thousands millions
billions will be very helpful with word
form and reading these numbers so you
have to know those if when I say the
word period format you don't know what
the heck that is
I dropped a link to the place value
important vocab video I did in the
description
maybe check that out and then come back
to this okay and as we go through these
remember this it'll help us out first
name last name and you'll see what that
means here in a second so let's do
number one we have a one hundred
fifty-five in the thousands period so
read that number as is 155 would be the
first name and whatever period that
number is and that would be the last
name so one hundred fifty five thousand
five hundred sixty-seven the ones period
does not have a last name that's the
only period you did not put a last name
on it so you'd read this one hundred
fifty five thousand five hundred
sixty-seven so word form is just writing
writing that number however you would
say it's so 155 thousand comma 567 there
you go done with that one alright don't
try to read these numbers all at once
you break it down into sections that's
why we have the period so it's easier to
read write say organize our numbers the
periods help us out with that so we're
gonna go to a an eight digit number now
so I'm gonna fill it in and we have a
seventy-five in the millions a 22 in the
thousands
and an 88 in the ones so first name last
name
75 million 22,000 and remember once
period no last name so 88 so again 75
million 22,000 88 once you get good at
these were getting into a nice rhythm
and you'll just be able to go section by
section and start knocking them down so
let's go 75
first name million last name comma
22,000 comma 88 there you go not too bad
if you go section by section period by
period so now let's go to the million
billion sorry I just crossed that number
out accidentally I meant to underline it
but we'll be alright so nine billion we
do not have anything in the millions so
we don't need to mention it so nine
billion five hundred sixty seven
thousand nine hundred twelve there you
go again nine billion nothing in the
millions
five hundred sixty seven thousand nine
hundred twelve so nine billion five
hundred sixty seven thousand nine
hundred twelve all right now I'm gonna
cut that one off here from the next one
and then let's do number four we got a
little bit larger in value here and this
one's gonna be a long one
so we have 18 billion 999
million two hundred ten thousand nine
hundred one again read as is eighteen
billion nine hundred ninety nine million
two hundred ten thousand nine hundred
one all right I'll try to cram this one
in this is a long one so 18 billion Emma
nine hundred ninety nine million two
hundred ten thousand nine hundred one
and there we go so that's word form and
reading numbers up to the billions so if
you think you're ready for the practice
go ahead and jump to that video I put in
in the description or if you want a
little more practice or maybe work
through a few more with me go on to part
two and then try your practice all right
you
