It's three generations of camping and riding goodness on this trip. My daughter and I met my dad for a few days of camping, riding motorcycles, and exploring the Mt. Washington Wilderness in my dad's RZR side by side. After a quick swim in Big Lake, our first night was spent hanging out as a family around the campfire singing songs and enjoying some delicious beers. The next morning, my daughter and I suited up and hopped on the Suzuki DRZ400S and Suzuki DRZ125 and my dad hopped in his Polaris RZR 900 and we set out for one of the most beautiful destinations I know of: the top of Cache Mountain. The ride up was fun and a bit unnerving for Lil' Dork as it was her first time riding a motorcycle on sand. Eventually though, we made to the top and were rewarded with one of the most beautiful views on earth. A panorama stretching miles in every direction with amazing views of Black Butte, Mount Washington, the Three Sisters, Three-Fingered Jack, Suttle Lake, Blue Lake, and all the other amazing nearby lakes, hills, and other landmarks. It was an amazing father daughter adventure (and a father son adventure with my dad along for the ride) that we will never forget, and this was just part one of this camping and motorcycle riding adventure at Oregon's Big Lake.
It's three generations of Dork and we are camping and riding at Big Lake.
And the only time he's satisfied.
Well the view from up here is unbelievable.
We have one special task we came up here to do.
Did you get stung?
Hello everyone.
Welcome back to the Dorkside.
That's Papa Dork and Lil Dork.
It's three generations of Dork and we are camping and riding at Big Lake,
Mount Washington, and Sandy MOHV area.
See if I can get you a view of this mountain.
Yeah so Mount Washington is right there.
Looming large.
Pretty exciting.
And we're starting slow.
We just got here so we like to take it easy first thing.
So you know just a small introductory beer is what Dad and I are drinking.
You know just small.
Just a little just a little taste.
Cheers.
Thanks for the beer.
I'm The Dork on the Road and I want to be your internet riding buddy.
So please consider subscribing.
What are you riding Dad?
I'm riding a side-by-side.
Polaris 900.
And you've had that how long?
Three weeks now.
Three weeks.
So you've had it out how many times?
I've had it out on one outing.
Well that's exciting.
Can't wait to explore the area.
Yesterday was the hottest day in years in Oregon.
And it was 114 degrees in the valley when we left today.
And you gotta understand that it doesn't get above 90 often.
And over 100 maybe a couple days a year.
And we're up what's the elevation here like 4,000 feet?
Yeah close.
We're like 4,000 feet.
It should be much cooler and it's 97 degrees or so right now here.
So it's hot.
We're thankful for that.
Yeah and we were excited that it was so much cooler.
But you know we booked this date you know months ago.
So we didn't know it was going to be the hottest week on record.
So we're going to just try to survive, keep hydrated, and have a great time.
Hey guys.
Interesting evening.
Had dinner.
Drank.
A few beers.
Went swimming.
In the lake.
It's the most gorgeous place to swim on the planet earth.
So come to Big Lake.
Dad's playing guitar and teaching us songs about dead skunks.
And now it's Mr. Puff Puff time.
Little dork.
What are these called?
Whose fault is that?
Mine.
That's right.
Do you still think it's funny?
Yeah.
Also if you camp at all.
Hold on.
Have you?
If you camp at all but particularly near water.
These thermocells.
Mosquitoes were crazy two minutes ago.
I lit this thing up.
No mosquitoes.
I don't see any mosquitoes.
Except for that one that just flew by.
So.
And it's small enough to take on your bike.
Totally worth it if you camp anywhere with bugs.
Which is everywhere in the summer.
Now the only thing a gambler needs is a suitcase and a trunk.
And the only time he's satisfied is when he's on a drunk.
I like the melding of the two versions.
How'd this Rocky Patel car go?
Pretty good.
And the fireside entertainment?
Not terrible.
It's about 11 o'clock.
Settled into the tent.
First night.
Success.
Just hanging out with the family.
Made chicken for dinner.
Enjoyed a few beverages.
Went swimming.
It was all good.
I didn't show you that much of it because we're just hanging out.
I'm having a good time.
But tomorrow is when the writing is happening.
So we'll get you some more footage.
It is still super hot.
So I'm going to turn my fan on.
Try to get some sleep.
And we'll catch up with you guys in the morning.
Good night.
Here we are.
Big Lake.
Day two.
It's Lil Dork getting the DRZ started.
Dad's over there in his Polaris 900.
And I'm, of course, riding the DRZ 400.
And we are going to go see Cache Mountain because Lil Dork's never been there.
One of my favorite places on the planet Earth.
Hey, first kick.
Look at you go.
She's getting this down, y'all.
The mountain is beautiful.
It's a good day to ride.
All right.
Well, that was Lil's first time on sand and she crushed it.
Whoa, the trail.
Okay, the trail has been blocked.
So we got to go around this tree.
There it is, y'all.
Cache Mountain.
I nailed it.
Good job.
Well, the view from up here is unbelievable.
Black Butte.
That's Salt Lake.
That is Blue Lake.
Mount Jefferson.
That's Three Finger Jack through the trees.
Go around the corner where you can see it better.
That is Hoodoo with Haverick Butte right in front of it.
And then these little lakes all have names.
That's Meadow, I think, in the distance.
I'm not sure what the name of that one is.
And there's a little one up here that's called Hand or Finger.
And then way off in the distance, that's Big Lake.
That's where we're camped.
Way back there.
And then the piece that was just on this side, Mount Washington and the Three Sisters.
Not terrible.
Unbelievable how far you can see.
You can see Highway 20.
Just miles of it over there.
So much to explore out here.
Such a cool area.
And this is one of the best spots on Earth that I've ever been.
Legit.
It's pretty amazing.
It's pretty amazing to get to share it with the kid and the dad.
What do you think, family?
It's pretty amazing, huh?
There's more bugs up here than I've ever seen in my life.
This is the whole point.
Some people ride motorcycles for, like, adrenaline.
I do it to get places like this.
Well, we have one special task we came up here to do.
This super cool rock.
That was sent to me by at officermegsrocks on Instagram.
You can see that I approve of the message, obviously.
And then her stuff is on the back.
So hopefully someone finds this and tags her and maybe even me.
And I can't think of a more beautiful place to leave it than up here at Cache Mountain.
So I'm just going to put it.
I'm going to leave it out in plain sight.
I'm just going to put it on one of these foundations for the old tower.
And hopefully someone will find it and tag it and tag us on Instagram.
So if you find it, tag us on Instagram.
I'm sure it'll be long gone by the time this video comes out.
Because, well, it's going to take me a week or two to get it done.
But I'll put it on Instagram right now.
There it is.
Be excellent to each other.
So thanks, Meg, for that.
Everybody go give Meg a follow.
Head back to camp.
Maybe try out some side-by-side shenanigans.
See how we feel.
That'll be fun times.
What's wrong?
Did you get stung?
That must have been painful, huh?
It was in your glove?
You didn't get bit before you put it on or anything?
Will just got stung by something.
See how she feels about me putting that in the video later.
But that's not good, kids.
Gotta check your gloves, I guess.
That's scary.
I'm sorry.
We'll get back to camp.
We'll put a little ice on it.
We'll give you some ibuprofen.
Give you a shot of whiskey.
Okay, we're going to head back down.
But you're going to get amazing views on the way.
And little dork's going to lead us off the mountain.
Look at this view though.
Oh my god.
I have to cut my finger off.
That's fine.
You have nine more.
It's overkill, really.
I've never actually appreciated the view on this side.
Because I'm usually just white knuckling it through this section.
Pretty awesome.
Take our time.
Appreciate the view.
You're almost through the tough part.
Hard part's over.
Nailed it.
I hope my rock's okay up there.
We chose the wrong path today.
It's fine.
I'm following you, so.
Who's dumber, me or you?
I'm just sliding down into the...
Good.
Give it some break.
Yeah, you got it.
You got it.
You're crushing it.
Consider it crushed because you crushed it.
Go loose.
Your speeding up instinct is a good one.
No big deal.
You got this.
It's a little technical.
Holy crap.
Yeah, don't target fix it.
Look around.
You'll go around.
You did so much better on the way back.
Nailed it.
All right, back at camp for a little bit.
We're going to take off and my dad's side by side.
I love this spot.
A little more crushing it.
My dad doesn't mess around when it comes to beers.
