Once upon a time, in a small fishing village by the sparkling blue sea,
there lived a kind-hearted fisherman named Mateo.
Every day, Mateo went out in his little wooden boat to catch fish for the villagers.
He never took more than he needed, for he respected the ocean and all its creatures.
One bright morning, as the sun glittered on the water,
Mateo cast his net and pulled it in with great effort.
To his surprise, among the wriggling fish was a magnificent golden crab.
Its shell gleamed like treasure, and its eyes shone with wisdom.
Please, good fisherman, the crab spoke in a gentle voice,
spare my life, and I shall grant you a wish.
Mateo gasped. He had never heard a crab speak before, let alone promise a wish.
After thinking for a moment, he smiled.
My family is poor, but we are happy. I do not need riches.
My wish is only that the villagers always have enough food.
The golden crab's eyes twinkled. Such a selfless wish.
Very well, from this day forth, the sea will provide plenty for your village.
And with that, the crab slipped back into the sea.
The villagers soon noticed that the ocean gave them more fish and crabs than ever before.
They celebrated joyfully, and every evening Mateo reminded them.
Let us be grateful for what we have, and never take more than we need.
The children of the village learned that when you are thankful,
you see the world as full of blessings, not shortages.
A return to the fisherman.
Many months passed, and one day the golden crab returned to Mateo's boat.
You have used my gift wisely, said the crab.
Now tell me, do you wish for anything else?
Mateo thought about the old man who lived at the edge of the village.
The man was lonely and had no family.
I wish he may find joy and friends to keep him company, Mateo said.
At once, the crab's claws shimmered with golden light.
And when Mateo returned to the village, he saw children laughing
and playing with the old man, who smiled for the first time in years.
Mateo could have wished for riches, a grand house or jewels,
but he chose kindness instead.
By helping someone else, he brought happiness to the whole community.
The villagers learned that kindness spreads like ripples in water.
When you help one person, the goodness touches many others.
A year later, as Mateo fished under the moonlight, the golden crab appeared once more.
You have asked nothing for yourself, said the crab softly.
This is your last chance, wish for something you truly desire.
Mateo thought for a long while.
He remembered his struggles, times when he was tired,
when storms frightened him, when he wanted quick answers.
But he also remembered how patience always brought better days.
Finally, he said,
My wish is for patience, so that I may face life's storms calmly and wisely.
The crab's shell glowed brighter than ever before.
You have chosen the greatest treasure.
With patience, you will always find your way.
And with a final splash, the golden crab disappeared forever into the sea.
From that day on, Mateo faced life's challenges with peace in his heart.
When storms blew, he waited for calm.
When fish were few, he trusted they would return.
