World gets first peek inside rebuilt Notre Dame cathedral

France has given the world its first look inside the restored Notre Dame cathedral five years after a blaze ripped through its interior and toppled its spire.

The 850-year-old cathedral’s cream-coloured limestone walls gleamed and light streamed through the vibrant stained-glass windows as President Macron inspected the cathedral ahead of its reopening to the public on December 7.

After the devastating fire in 2019, Macron promised to rebuild the masterpiece of gothic architecture within five years and make it “even more beautiful”.
