Cleaning and repairing old Bonner & sons English made mantle Clock
Welcome back to the antique clock shop
Okay, my wife and I went down to the Hawken Hills area over the weekend and on our way down
We stopped at the old shoe factory
Antique mall in Lancaster. They had a lot of nice stuff there. They had a lot of nice clocks
But this is the only one they had there that was actually running
So I ended up buying that one and then we went down in the Hawken Hills. I also picked up this this Welby
over at the Logan antique mall
and then another one we picked over picked up over at the
This is a Hershey made in Cincinnati, Ohio. We picked this one up over at the Spring Street antiques
And then we have this other one who's over by there was a flea market over by Spring Street antiques. This is a Bonner and Son
Colchester English clock
That's the one we'll be working on and I got this one
The flea market they had over there and the guy got it from they called himself the flea market man. So
But that's the clock. We'll be taking apart today. So let's get ready to take it apart
Okay, we've got the Bonner and Son
Colchester clock over here on the workbench ready to take it apart. I did notice that the hinges on the
Right side of the clock instead of the left side of the clock like the American made clocks, but this is an English clock. So
Let's get this taken out
These hands off
Oh, yeah, I'll find it wash them in somewhere
It's been a while since they've been taken apart they're really hard to get off use the pry tool on
Maybe
I
Get it with two of them
There we go, it's just been a while since it's been taken off, there we go
All right, flip it around here you have to get that gong out of there
Definitely needs cleaned up
You
It's not the right pliers to use on that but they work
Not sure how old this clock is looks like it's got the original screws in it
I
Think this is the first English clock I've ever worked on
And I can do some cleaning on this case, it's pretty real shape
I
Oh
That was a tough one to get out of there
Ah, it's got spring barrels on it, I see.
Doesn't look too complicated.
It definitely needs a good cleaning, it's dirty.
Well, it's wanting to work, that's a good sign.
Alright.
That's interesting, I see the plate's brass.
It looks brass anyway.
Down in here, the front face actually, that's what I meant to say.
I see some veneers missing here, I don't know, I might be able to fix that.
Neat little clock.
Alright, that's it for this video, next thing is to tear apart the movement and get it to
the sonic cleaner and see what's wrong with it and get it back together.
Thanks for watching.
