Skiing In North Korea’s Masikryong Ski Resort 4K (2021) ⛷ | North Korea Ski Vlog

I go to the Masikryong Ski Resort (마식령 스키장) with Mr. Lee in January 2020 for some skiing in North Korea. Masik Ryong is the only ski resort in North Korea open to foreigners, so if you wish to enjoy skiing in North Korea - this is the place to go. 

Actually, this video is extra special to me since it’s my last time in North Korea since the country closed due to the pandemic. (We still don’t know when it will open again). Which is why I spent days and many moneys uploading this in 4K so please enjoy and share it with your friends and family etc…

Masik Ryong is located approx. 20 kilometres outside Wonsan in Kangwon province, and about 1.5- 2 hours outside Pyongyang. Actually, heading there I had food poisoning and it was the most awful, bumpy journey. When we got to Masik they put me on a drip for a couple of hours and gave me an injection in my bum. I’d never had a needle in my bum before and never want to again. The nurse found me hilarious.

Mr. Lee has been skiing before, but after quite a bad injury a few years ago - he vowed to never go again. Unfortunately, he got stuck with me. But his skills improved over the couple of days! (i.e. he fell over less.)

The ski resort was constructed in just under 10 months.
It was part of a tourism and prestige infrastructure drive from current leader Kim Jong Un. 

The Masikryong Ski Resort has 10 pistes going from beginner to intermediate level. There is also an on-site ski school and children's snow park for those that want to learn skiing in North Korea. And, there’s also an on-site photographer for those that want a killer souvenir of your holiday.
There are three first aid and patrol stations.
The longest piste is 110m and the steepest slope is almost 40 degrees. 

You can bring your own equipment or rent gear and equipment at the Ski Resort. For this, there is an extra charge. There is a ski rental shop where you can take Masik-branded ski apparel.

The longest run is just over 5k, and the highest peak is Taewha peak which stands at an altitude of 1300m+. 
There are on-sight instructors if you wish to get lessons. 
If you don't want to ski, you can take part in tobogganing, ice skating, or going for a ride on a snow-mobile. And a guy that walks around and takes your picture (see end slides)! There are various lifts including a cable car, magic carpet, and button lift.

Masik Ryong is one of my favourite places to stay. The rooms have that wooden ‘ski’ kind of feel and the view is just incredible.

The hotel is made up of two buildings, block 1 and block 2. Both buildings are connected via a pass on the second floor. 

Block 2 also houses the ski area.

You will most probably stay in block 1 and your guides in block 2.

The hotel has a total of 120 rooms and is built in pyramid-shaped towers. 

ROOMS

Various rooms are available, including single, double, deluxe, and family rooms.
The standard rooms are very large and modern and come with a balcony with a great view of the resort and surrounding mountains. 

FACILITIES 

The hotel has a swimming pool and sauna, massage room, beauty parlour, billiards room, and restaurants. 
There are various shops selling books, drinks and snacks, and also an on-site ski shop selling skiwear. 

RESTAURANTS

There are three on-site restaurants in block 1, more in block 2, and also a restaurant on one of the small pistes. 
The three restaurants in Block 1 are located in the same area. There is a large room that can fit approx. 40 guests, a large room for single parties (approx. 20) around a circular table, and another room with traditional seating on the floor that can seat a further 20 people.
