【Classical music and nature 古典音樂小站】Satie: Satie Gymnopedies No. 3 Flute Piano. This beautiful piece was presented by Germanrecords. It is a royalty free music provided by pond5.com.

Although these pieces were originally written for the piano, the flute is a particularly suitable instrument for capturing their calm, almost simple solemnity. Middle-grade flautists will welcome the opportunity to perform these beautiful pieces.

The work's unusual title comes from the French form of 'gymnopaedia', an ancient Greek word referring to an annual festival at which young men danced either naked or, perhaps figuratively, unarmed. (Please let us know in the comments, if you know how it really is)The source of the title has been the subject of debate. Satie and his friend Alexis Roland-Manuel claimed that he chose it after reading Gustave Flaubert's novel Salammbô. However, others believe that Satie was inspired by a poem by J. P. Contamine de Latour, as the first Gymnopédie was published in the magazine La Musique des Familles in the summer of 1888 alongside an excerpt of Latour's poem Les Antiques, in which the term appears.

Slanting and shadow-cutting, a bursting torrent
Streamed in floods of gold upon the polished flagstone,
Where the atoms of flaming amber, gleaming
mingled their sarabande with the Gymnopédie.
