Parker Bows - How to install a scope
In this section we're going to show you how to properly install and slide in a crossbow scope
using RedHot accessories. In this example we're going to use the RedHot match grade rings
complemented with the match grade either illuminated reticle scope or the standard
crossbow scope that we engineered specifically for crossbow shooting over 300 feet per second.
So what we've done now is that we've taken out of the package a set of match grade rings
and our illuminated scope for this example. I've already pre-installed the back ring set for the
match grade ring. What you want to do is take your ring set out and slide it over top of the rail
like so. Hold that in place and just loosen up the set screw. By the way this allen key that
goes with it for the set screw is included with the match grade rings. I'm going to tighten these
down like so. A couple little twists and that's good and snug. They're not going anywhere. You'll
notice that there's cushion tape inside the ring. That protects the finish of the scope and also
reduces the chance that the scope wants to turn. But most importantly it's going to reduce the
chance that it's going to mar the finish of your scope. Then we're going to take the scope and we'll
lay it down inside the ring bed like so. Centered between the rings so the turrets can turn freely
like so. And then on top we're going to put the top portion of the ring set on top. With the
eight set screws we're going to install these one through eight starting with the front one.
But we're not going to snug them down super tight. We're going to leave them quite loose
actually and as we install them we're going to put them in opposite corners
just like so. There we go all the way through. And for convenience this Tipton vise really does make
a nice job of holding the crossbow still for us. But you can do this with sandbags or you can do
this with pillows or perhaps just if you're clever you can hold it still on your lap. You can do it
that way too. But I really like using a vise. Okay now again we're not snugging these down.
These are barely finger tight only as we put these on here. And that cushion tape that's inside there
will definitely help hold them in place. Now there's one thing that's really special about
the Red Hot Scope and the Match Grade Rings is that on top of the ring and on top of the tube
of the scope we have what's called a bore scribe mark. And that's a little white line. It's actually
off-colored white so it doesn't look offensive to your eye. But it actually helps you line up the
scope for level so that you can level your scope quickly and conveniently. Now this doesn't mean
that you don't have to sight your scope in. It's just a bore sight mark that will get you very
very close to level. Now if you look in here real close you can see all you have to do now is just
turn these to level. So you can see now that after I've tweaked it just a little bit that the top
bore scribe mark of the ring lines up with the top bore scribe mark of the tube. So a little bit
tighter. Now remember we're not dead nuts sighted in at this point but we're just bore sighted in
with these marks lining up like this on top of the scope tube. So what I'm going to do now is
we're going to take and just do a quick check. And it needs to be adjusted just a hair. Just a hair
back. It doesn't take much. And those cross hairs are level. Now I'm going to go back to my vice
clamp it back in and with one to a half rotation per screw going to opposite corners
I'm going to tighten these all down until it's good and snug.
And that way in a little under three minutes and believe in the bore sight marks have saved me a
lot of time and effort in locking this down and leveling my cross hairs out. I have just installed
a Red Hot illuminated scope with match grade rings.
