Just Help 1: Deborah Gets Her Smile Back
When Deborah lost her husband, she was ready to give up on life. She had been married to her husband for 44 years until tragedy struck. Her husband suffered from a stroke that ultimately took his life.
With her husband gone, Deborah no longer had the income to make ends meet. Bills began to pile up, and she realized she couldn’t make it on her own. At 67, she began spending her nights on the streets. This way of life quickly became unsustainable for Deborah; she knew she needed help.
Help came to Deborah through Union Rescue Mission—a place where she could begin to heal and reclaim her sense of self. At URM, she began to restore the dignity and confidence that hardship had worn away.
Thanks to a partnership with the USC School of Dentistry, Deborah received a brand-new smile—something she’d long gone without.
Without Union Rescue Mission, Deborah believes she’d still be sleeping on the streets. Now, she’s discovered that even after deep loss, life still holds beauty and possibility. She’s embracing each day with hope and a desire for joy.
At Union Rescue Mission, lives are transformed every day. Your support helps people like Deborah rediscover their strength—and find the way home.
