'It was a nightmare': Death of 2 dogs at same kennel prompts investigation

An investigation is underway at a dog boarding facility after two pets died under their care. Tonight the Bucks County SPCA is looking into the incidents as the grieving pet owners are searching for answers. Action News reporter Becca Hendrickson with the story tonight. When Pauline Cezanne and her husband James left for their honeymoon, they boarded their beloved dog, Bunny. They never saw her alive again. Bunny was staying at R.C. Dog Care at Warminster. They learned on a call their dog had been refusing food for days and needed life-saving treatment. Bunny died of kidney failure. At first the couple quietly grieved until they learned another dog died last week in the care of this same kennel. Brooke Anderson was with her family down the shore. Their dog, Phoebe, was at R.C. Dog Care. Friday, she says, the owner said he was taking Phoebe to the vet. The next call was from the doctor. It was a nightmare of a call. I mean, they were saying that Phoebe is not okay, they think she suffered a heat stroke. Her temperature was 108.4. Phoebe died last Friday of heat stroke. Both families have since been in contact with the county dog warden, who did an unexpected inspection yesterday. A spokesperson for R.C. Dog Care said in a statement in part, Still, both families want answers after coming back from vacation to empty homes. Now we'll never know if it was something that could have been prevented and she could still be here with us today. A spokesperson for R.C. Dog Care also extended condolences to the family, said the loss of both dogs is devastating, and asked the public to please stop threatening the center and its staff.
