I decided to make a window inspired picture frame for a 3 picture panoramic photo set. It would be great to live in a place where I can look out the window and see a great view such as this...I guess I'll just have to look through this window instead.

all right I didn't have enough material
of this Prime scrap left to to go all
the way around so I had to use a
partially destroyed uh door casing for
the top piece um it's the same
profile for the most part there's
there's a slight difference in the
thickness of this first piece you know
but that's expected with different um
different runs of the same material so
um it's it mit's closed up pretty well
that just a tad loose no big deal this
one's darn near spot on I just got some
uh different thickness here like I said
I just use my pin nailer to secure it
once the glue sets smear this still once
the glue sets I'm going to come back
like you would on a window and uh or
door casing and COA this seam nice and
smooth on the
inside fill in any of these nail holes
that were previously there the staple
holes and now I have my furthest point
of my molding so I can take a
measurement outside to
outside and cut my bottom piece to match
and then with some pocket hole screws on
the back side just screw into the top of
here and after that I mean it's ready
for some it's ready for some uh
primer I don't know if uh depending on
how snug these pictures actually sit in
there I don't know if I'm going to put a
backer board on there maybe a piece of
very thin card stock cardboard
um I don't know we'll see with the
bottom piece clamped to the bottom of
the window seill I can now slide it off
my bench and just secure it from
[Music]
below with the entire frame assembly
done I'm just going to go around and uh
sand down and sand over these little
sharp edges get everything all nice and
neat fill in all these small little
crevices with some uh paintable cocking
and in these
seams uh just get everything nice and
neat like a traditional window would be
just using my little sanding pad with
some 220 most of this is MDF these two
pieces I should say are MDF the rest of
it's wood so I don't want to get too
aggressive with this um but anyway
starting to take shape and I'll get this
done and go ahead and spray
it and here it is with one coat of spray
primer I'm using a spray kills uh
oilbased
primer and it it hides stains and
different colorations so well it's a lot
easier to spray something like this for
me than it is to brush and and like I
said this is what I'm
using K's original spray interior oil
base um stuff is expensive it's like
five bucks a can I think it actually was
a little bit more than that but it'll be
worth it that's my only cost so far is
at 5 bucks so I've got I've got to put
these uh put the pictures in once it
gets painted and I think I think
honestly I'm just going to use one hook
right in the middle no one's going to be
bumping up against this and it'll hang
just
fine with the entire project completely
primed uh I cocked everything and used a
spray
Prime with the entire project primed and
all white uh now I can put the final
coat of paint on and what I'm using is a
white uh semigloss latex interior paint
I happen to have a bunch of it so I'm
going to use
it and uh after
that let it dry for about an hour or two
uh maybe a little bit
longer I can mount the picture frame or
the the pictures themselves I should say
and mount the entire window on the wall
with the entire frame painted on the
front side I flipped it back over so the
back is showing on some uh carpet pads
so it won't scratch it up and what I'm
doing is right in the middle I'm going
to mount one of these saw tooth hangers
now I know that this is a very wide
project um but that Sawtooth hanger will
support the weight just fine and it's in
a location where no one's going to bump
up against it to rock it left or right
so I have no problem with just one
hanger for this wide piece uh once I get
that uh secured in there I'm going to
put the pictures in place and I've
already tried it out with this paint and
it's very snug and it does not want to
move much at all but what I'm going to
do instead of just leaving them in place
and they calling it a day cuz Uh Wood
contraction expansion and contraction
could cause them to fall out down the
road I'm going to get them flush with
the back of this so they're all in the
same plane and I'm going to use uh some
hbac tape and just tape them along the
seams to this that will will allow for
expansion and contraction it will hold
it in case it wants to fall out some
very uh very tacky tape and it's long
lasting
um you know it's it's in the back of the
frame so no one's going to see it so
that'll work just
fine with the pictures mounted all it's
left to do is go ahead and put them on
the
wall and here it is on my
wall so yeah that was a big Improvement
now it looks like uh now looks like
that's one big thing as opposed to
picture picture picture so that's nice I
like that um
couple things I don't
like uh because of the way I made the
frame and I just stuck the the molding
up around it I I don't like this uh
offset distance from
the the uh molding to the wall versus
the bottom being rested up against the
wall that's no big deal that's just a
little you know a little nothing or
other but that is pretty cool I like
that now if only I could uh if only I
could live in a place where I actually
see that out of window that would be
really cool uh but for now this uh this
fake window we have to do
