Hi, I'm Christine Miller and I thank you for joining us for today's episode.
We have been talking about a really important subject and that is the subject of divine
healing.
You know, I have to start out almost every episode reminding you that God really loves
you and He really wants you healed.
You know, God doesn't just want a select few healed or if you've been really good this
week then you can be healed.
No, healing is a gift and it's not something that you have to earn or work hard for.
God loves us so much that Jesus came and paid the price so that we could be healed from
the top of our heads to the soles of our feet.
And so we're going to continue to talk about this important subject and I want you to see
some things from the Word of God that will help bring some light and help you see that
you don't have to stay sick.
You know, today I particularly want to talk about a word that will probably get your attention
and that is the word curse.
You know, we all know that a curse is not a good thing but not everybody is completely
aware of what exactly a curse is.
You know, when we were kids we were taught not to use curse words and if we did there
were usually some pretty serious consequences if we did.
But we want to look at the definition of the word curse from Webster's 1828 Dictionary
and it says this,
A curse is to utter a wish of evil against one, to imprecate evil upon, or to call for
mischief or injury to fall upon, or to execrate.
Now those are some bigger words than we usually use in our vocabulary.
The word imprecate means to invoke against somebody or something.
But the word execrate is actually to feel or express great loathing for.
So we see this that it's not a good word.
It's not good to have those kinds of feelings or thoughts toward anybody.
Now we know this too that there are many pagan religions, witchcraft, sorcery that they actually
utilize curses as part of their practice.
And I personally know a couple who have been missionaries in the Panama jungle for decades
and they have come in contact with witch doctors that actually put curses on people and they
work.
As a matter of fact, they work so well that the people in the jungle are afraid of those
witch doctors.
But here's an interesting story.
There were many times when this couple first arrived in the jungle where these witch doctors
would try to put a curse on them.
And after a while, every curse he tried to put on the missionaries would actually come
back on him.
So he came to realize, I can't curse this couple.
And I want you to know today, the Bible teaches us that no man can curse what God has blessed.
And if you belong to God, you are incursable.
I know that's not really a word, but you know, you cannot be cursed by the devil or by any
person as long as you believe God.
Now the Bible tells us something about this thing called curse and the Bible actually
refers to it as the curse of the law.
In Galatians chapter 3 and verse 13 and 14 in the New Testament, it says Christ has redeemed
us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us.
This is why no one can curse us now, because Jesus became a curse for us.
And it's written, cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree, that the blessing of Abraham might
come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit
through faith.
So we see that Christ already redeemed us from the curse, but if he actually redeemed
us from the curse of the law, what exactly is it?
Well, we looked at Webster's definition of that, but now we're going to go back to the
law, which is really the first five books of the Old Testament.
It's called the Pentateuch and it contains the law in it.
When we study these books, we find that the curse or punishment for breaking God's law
is first of all, spiritual death, secondly, poverty, and third, sickness and disease.
I mean, all the curse can be summed up into those three categories.
So we find this in Deuteronomy chapter 28, that the curse of sickness and disease would
come upon people who were in disobedience to God's law.
See, God had benefits for his people as long as they stayed under his protective covering.
And the way that they did that was by being obedient.
But when they would disobey, then the curse of the law could come upon their lives.
And according to Deuteronomy 28, every sickness and every disease that's ever known to man
is actually called a curse of the law.
Now we're going to look at a few that are listed just to give you an example of what
a curse is.
Really what it's saying is sickness and disease is a curse.
And hopefully you who are watching today, you believe that too.
You know, I don't know of anybody that got sick and said, oh, this is such a blessing
in my life.
You know, really, sometimes there's a double standard in religious circles where they say,
well, I don't know, God might be putting this sickness on me to teach me something.
Well, that's not what the Bible teaches.
Now Deuteronomy 28 and verse 22, we're going to look in the Amplified Classic.
It says, the Lord will smite you with consumption, with fever, and inflammation.
That word consumption actually means pulmonary tuberculosis.
Now thank God in the United States of America, we don't see that very often, but I know that
it's still a problem worldwide.
That's a curse of the law.
Then it goes on in verse 27 to say, the Lord will smite you with the boils of Egypt and
the tumors, the scurvy and the itch from which you cannot be healed.
So itch doesn't sound good.
Anything that causes itching, it could be eczema, skin rashes, skin diseases.
Sometimes there's itching that comes along with fevers and different types of diseases
along that line.
Boils and tumors, not good.
The Lord will smite you with madness and blindness and disarray of mind and heart.
Now a boil is an infected lump.
Sometimes you can get what we call impetigo or you get an infection in one of the pores
of your skin.
Remember that up until recent years, there was no such thing as an antibiotic.
And so some of these things could become very serious and even life-threatening.
Then it talks about scurvy.
Scurvy is a vitamin C deficiency.
It can cause fatigue or muscle pain.
Now those that know this, we try to keep vitamin C in good doses in our diet today, but worldwide,
that's not always possible.
And then this other thing, madness.
Madness really are mental problems.
We're seeing this in a record number in our day.
We could call anxiety, depression, and various other mental disorders madness.
And so we see that we still suffer from that today.
Then in verse 59, it says, the Lord will bring upon you and your descendants extraordinary
sicknesses or strokes and blows, great plagues of long continuance.
I'll tell you what, if you've suffered from something for a long time, it's a curse, according
to the scripture.
And grievous sicknesses of long duration.
Moreover, he will bring upon you all the diseases of Egypt, which you were afraid of, and they
shall cling to you.
And also every sickness and every affliction, which is not written in this book of the law,
the Lord will bring upon you until you are destroyed.
Now I wanted to read that, that's not good news, but you have to get a picture of what
the law shows us and what the curse is.
Now, something we have to bring clarity to, where it says the Lord will smite you and
the Lord will bring this upon you, that is not a good translation.
It's a poor translation of the original Hebrew.
There is a master at Hebrew and Greek, Dr. Robert Young, who has now gone on to heaven.
And he has pointed out that in the original Hebrew, it should be translated, the Lord
will allow or will permit these diseases to come upon you.
And that's absolutely true.
God will permit evil to come upon people when they walk away from his laws, when they walk
away from obeying his truths.
They open the door to the devil, and God really cannot stop that.
The devil has an invitation to come in, so in a sense he allows these things to come
upon us.
But God does not send plagues and sicknesses on us himself because he doesn't have disease
to give us.
God is a good God.
But he does repeatedly warn us what's going to happen if we don't obey his word.
And that, my friend, is called mercy.
He says, I'm showing you what will happen if you disobey, but choose to obey.
In other words, he puts the choice in our hands.
We can choose to obey or disobey.
We can choose life or we can choose death.
And Satan is our enemy, and he is just wanting to attack us and bring sickness into our lives.
And so we have to learn how to close that door to him.
So we see this.
God wants to bless us with health and healing.
He's a good God.
And since Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, the believer in Jesus is
no longer subject to that curse.
Now many in the body of Christ have taught something called generational curses.
And I just want to bring clarity to that, because sometimes you will see a pattern run
through families where if your great-grandfather and then your grandfather and then your own
father all died from a cardiac disorder, then medical science wants you to brace yourself
because you probably will die from the same thing.
And of course, we see patterns in families, and the church calls that a generational curse.
But actually, it's just a demonic force working in a family.
And the devil's waiting for an open door to try to attack different people in that family.
And he gets in two ways.
Number one, through ignorance.
If you don't know that you've been redeemed and you just allow him to do things to you,
he'll continue to do it.
And then secondly, through disobedience.
If you willfully go against the will of God for your life and disobey his word, you allow
Satan to come in and take authority to attack you.
Now another thing that I should mention is oftentimes people do not belong to Jesus.
And so certainly, if you don't belong to God, you're subject to the curse of the law.
But if you're a believer, generational curses do not belong to you.
And you can say no to the devil and no to sickness and disease and no to the curse.
So that leads us to this question.
If believers are redeemed from the curse of the law, then why are so many suffering sickness
and disease?
Well, as I just stated, there's an open door somewhere.
It's not for the same reason as those who are unsaved, because we have been redeemed
from the curse of the law.
So I'm going to read a scripture to you in Ephesians chapter 4 and verse 27, also from
the Amplified Classic.
It says, leave no such room or foothold for the devil.
Give no opportunity to him.
Many believers are facing difficulties today.
Many believers suffer from sickness, disease, pain, unwanted things in their lives because
they have given space to the devil.
They've given topography, the Greek would say.
They've given place or given ground to him.
But even though the door may be open to the devil, the good news is it can be shut.
And you can receive your complete and total healing even today.
You know, God doesn't want us to wait until tomorrow to receive his benefits and his goodness.
And so for today, I just want to encourage you, according to Deuteronomy 28, every sickness
and every disease is a curse of the law.
But according to Galatians 3.13, Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law.
Therefore, according to the word of God, we no longer have it.
Now this is something that's important to realize that you don't have to have it.
I want to share a quick story with you that I believe will bless you.
There was a woman many years ago who opened up what we would call a healing house.
And this was in the day where there weren't a lot of hospitals or places where people
could stay if they were sick.
And so those particularly that had been diagnosed with terminal diseases, this woman would open
up her healing home to these people and they would come and stay there.
And she would use these very scriptures to get them healed.
And she said it was very rare that somebody didn't leave that home completely healed.
And so she would show them from the word that their sickness or disease was a curse of the
law according to Deuteronomy 28.
And then she would have them repeat these scriptures on a continual basis.
She would show them that Galatians 3.13 says you're redeemed from the curse of the law,
therefore you no longer have it.
And so she would have them repeating that all day long.
And in the beginning, they didn't really feel like they believed that.
They didn't sense any change in their health.
But oftentimes after one day, two days, and sometimes three days, as they continued to
quote those scriptures, they would rise up completely healed.
You know, faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.
And so the more you say it, the more you hear it.
And if you're hearing it, you're going to believe it.
And then when you say it in faith, it produces the desired result in your body.
So for today, I want to encourage you to quote these scriptures if you're suffering from
sickness and disease.
And I'm going to lead you, and we happen to have a live audience here today, in this very
confession now before we close.
Say this with me according to Deuteronomy 28.
My sickness and disease is a curse of the law.
But according to Galatians 3.13, Christ has redeemed me from the curse of the law.
Therefore, I no longer have this sickness or disease.
In Jesus' name.
I want to encourage you to continue to confess that word over your life and believe God and
watch and see what his power will do in your body.
