A few videos ago, I made a video that showed you all of my traditional archery gear. I actually
showed you this particular bow right here. This is a bow that I actually made. It is a hickory,
black walnut, and bamboo backing. The thing about that is when I was making that video,
after I kind of turned the cameras off, I was shooting my bow and as I was shooting the bow,
I heard a pop and as I began to look at my bow, I saw this right here. A piece of the bamboo
actually split and so I've got to fix this. Now, here's what I'm going to try to do today. I'm
going to show you how I'm going to fix this piece of split bamboo. I'm going to let it dry up and
once it's dried up, I'm going to shoot it again and see how much speed I've actually lost with
this particular bow. I do know for a fact that I shot it on a chronograph before I actually took
it hunting and it shot 139 feet per second, which is not blazing fast, but here's what we're going
to do. We're going to fix the limb and I'll show you how to do that today and then we're going to
see how much speed fell off of this bow because of this little split in the bamboo. Now, the wood
limb on the hickory, it's not split, just the bamboo. So, we're going to try to fix that today,
show you how to do it and then let it dry up, shoot it and see how much speed we've lost. So,
let's get busy. Let me see if I can't get this just to kind of seep down in there. I don't want
to try not to. I'm trying to let it just sink down in there and it's going pretty good, but I don't
want it to, so you can see it's kind of, that's going pretty good right there. I think when I
smash it, oh yeah, see I'm gonna have to get some napkins to clean that off, but I think
I think that's gonna make a good seal. Put a little cellophane on there, that way
it doesn't stick to my clamps. Now, put these clamps back on there, clamp them down.
Hit myself in the nose with a thing. All right, so we got her clamped up. Now, all we got to do is
let that sit for like 24 hours, but I'm going to be honest with you, I'm probably going to
let that sit for more than 24 hours, because 24 hours will be tomorrow night, and so I'm
going to probably let it sit a little bit longer than that, and then we'll kind of come back and
check it out and see how well it dried. It's not going to be perfect, that's for sure. I can already
see that. We let it sit for about four or five days, and so now what I'm going to do is I'm going
when I put tension on it, that'll actually hold, and then I'm going to take a couple of shots from
it and see if it's still good to go. We'll see if this works. All right, moment of truth.
All right, we've got her strung up now, and she's holding up pretty decent right here. I mean,
it ain't really cracked yet, but we got to take a shot, so let's get back here and do that.
Let's put an arrow through it and see what happens. I have no idea what's going to happen. I'm only like
eight yards, but that's all right. I'm just trying to see if it'll hold.
Ah, I should have quit while I was ahead. I think that was about the sixth shot.
Well, guys, it looks like that is definitely going to be the end to my first bow that I made.
I'm a little sad about that. Tell you what I'm going to do, though. I'm going to glue it back,
and then I'm just going to have it for keepsakes. So it was fun while it lasted.
First one I made, it looks good. It worked good. I killed a big buck with it, but I'll never be
able to shoot at another one with it again. I probably could fix it better, but I'm just going
to glue it back to where it stays like that and just put it on the shelf and just call that good.
So anyway, you've seen an unsuccessful limb glue up for this longbow. So whatever you saw me do,
I don't suggest you do that. Oh, it's just too much pressure on that. I don't know,
but it's been pretty sweet. So go back and check out the hunt where I killed a deer
with the longbow, homemade in Kansas. You'll enjoy that hunt, but it'll be the last time
you see this bow kill something else. So anyway, make sure you watch, you like, subscribe,
check out all the other videos. And here coming up pretty soon, we're going to have another
group of videos where we're making another longbow because this one no longer works.
So catch you next time.
