Franz Schubert and Franz von Schober (poet) were close friends. From 1818 onwards, they lived together, with a few interruptions, in Schober's apartment at Tuchlauben 20, Landskrongasse 5 in Vienna's first district (view before 1905). Schober was acquainted with many artistic personalities and contributed greatly to the dissemination of Schubert's work during his lifetime and beyond.

An edition of Franz von Schober's poems was not published until 1842, after Franz Schubert's death, by Cotta's bookshop in Tübingen.
