Hello internet, welcome to Merlin Archery Ability.
Now unless you have been living under a rock for the past few weeks, I'm pretty sure you will have
seen the viral video during the rounds at the moment of a chap called Lars Anderson jumping
around shooting incredibly quickly. Now it seems to seem to be that this this video has split the
archery community down the middle, but love or hate the video, he has brought eastern archery
into the fold again and there's a lot of people talking about eastern style of archery. Now what
I wanted to talk to you about is in the video Lars mentions that he's discovered this long lost
way of shooting with the arrow on the right side of the bow. Now it's not long lost, it's just a
different way of shooting, it's the eastern style of shooting and there seems to be some confusion
about whether you should place the arrow on the left side of the bow or the right side of the bow
and the answer to that is incredibly simple, it all depends on the style of shooting you're doing.
If you're doing a western style style of shooting which is arrow on the left side of the bow
with a mediterranean or split finger release such as this, then the arrow needs to go on the left
side of the bow because of the way the archer's paradox works. Now I will go into more depth
about the archer's paradox a bit later on in a different video but all it means is the way the
arrow bends around the bow due to the way you release the string. Now if you're shooting a
western style, the arrow needs to be on the left side of the bow. Now if you're shooting an eastern
style like the way Lars does with the arrow on the thumb side or the right side of the bow, use a
thumb and forefinger release. Now I don't have a thumb ring but you'd normally use a thumb ring
for this style of archery but the archer's paradox is reversed doing it eastern style. It
just means that the arrow rolls off your fingers in a slightly different way and has to bend around
the bow in a slightly different way. So I just wanted to clear that up really that it doesn't
matter whether you're shooting off the left or the right side of the bow, it just means you have to
change your style slightly and that's something that Lars doesn't mention in the video. So yeah
just to recap if you're shooting western style or with a mediterranean release which is split finger
the arrow goes on the left side of the bow. If you're shooting eastern style with a thumb and
forefinger release or even a thumb ring the arrow goes on the right side of the bow like that. But
I just hope I just wanted to make a quick little video just to clear that up because love or hate
the guy we have sold quite a few of these sort of eastern style horse bows just lately so I just
wanted to make a quick video just to give you a little bit of information on which side of
the arrow, which side of the bow the arrow should go. But anyway I hope that makes sense, I hope
you enjoyed that. Take care, shoot straight and I'll see you on the internet. Bye bye.
