i'm here today because i am a part of
the aapi community
and um it's just always important to
bring awareness and
to celebrate where you come from and who
you are the aapi community first of all
it always there's it always needs our
support
right now i think because of the past
year we had
a lot of rhetoric that was spewed from
the top
and i think it has shed light on
problems that our community has been
dealing with for a really long time um
and it's it's about time that you know
people outside of the community and
people within the community start to
rally
around um
around what it means to be
asian-american i mean this has always
been an important issue
i'm half chinese i grew up with a
chinese father who
immigrated here um and the
you know i was culturally raised very
chinese and as a child
i remember turning on the tv and reading
books and
never seeing or thinking that anyone
else like me
could do anything outside of
what was the narrative that was created
for us we were virtually
we were not seen by the stories being
told and the way that we were portrayed
it was from this really boxed in
narrative of what
um people outside of our community think
of us
um and there's such a beautiful diaspora
of of cultures
and um and and stories within the asian
american community
and there's so much to be explored and
to be expressed and
um as a community we have so much to
share i hope that people just really
enjoy the show
um i think that asian americans um we've
had so much to offer for such a long
time
and uh it's really it's really about
time and it's really exciting to take us
a place on the world stage and for to to
to show off the diverse talent that um
that we have within our community
