For Jay Stollander, you know what?
You kind of break this up for me in early starts
and then the last three starts, because when you do that,
the numbers are so much better.
And I'm not just saying because the numbers are better,
because he's pitching better.
Parade is hitting .254, but he has 17 homers,
and he has knocked in 46.
He goes down.
He'll try to pull a 79-mile-an-hour curveball.
It's pretty hard to do.
Tuve hitting .260, 319 on base percentage,
13 homers, 36 runs batted in.
He fights his way out to right field.
Freeman will come in.
Nice inning for Jay Stollander, 1-2-3.
Back here in Denver, the last sliver of sunlight
is on your starter tonight.
Colton Gordon going out there to make his ninth start.
Overall, that ERA in eight starts is 3.98.
He's done great.
0-2 pitch is right there on the inside edge.
Colton Gordon doesn't waste any time
picking up his first strikeout, a three-pitch K.
There's a one-out nobody on for catcher Hunter Goodman.
This ball's drilled to center field.
Meyers giving chase. Look at that.
Boom! Grossed in!
First pitch since being down for four games,
Hunter Goodman touches them all.
1-0, Rockies.
Are we ever happy to have Hunter Goodman back in that lineup?
Rockies with a 1-0 lead over the Astros
as we start the second inning.
Cam Smith with a base hit into center field.
Cam coming off a great homestand,
where he hit .400 with a couple of home runs
against his original organization.
Starts this series out with a single to center.
Brings up Victor Caratini.
Sends this one into center field, falling quickly.
That's going to be down for a hit.
So the Astros have back-to-back singles here
in the second inning, trying to answer
the Rockies' run in the bottom of the first.
Oh, yeah. Turn it. Roll it. Let's go.
He got one. That's a miss.
Out of window.
Great turn by Estrada at second.
Great start by Ritter.
Here's a veteran, Christian Walker, the former D-back.
Ground ball. We're tied at one.
And the Christian Walker,
revisiting the NL West on the roads.
Starts well as he has an RBI to start this road trip.
That pitch drifting away from him.
He just went with it. That was beautiful.
Home half of the second inning here at Coors Field.
A tie at one. Two out, nobody on for Orlando Arcea.
Right-handed hitting third baseman.
Out of the way.
And one of the few times that Gordon is walked in
by only six walks.
There you go, Ryan Ritter with the base hit to left field.
Rockies still in business.
Here's Tyler Freeman hitting for the second time.
Here's the next pitch.
And it's inside. Gets away from the catcher.
And the runners will advance.
So Arcea goes to third and Ritter to second.
Ground ball to short. Mauricio Dubon is there.
Gobbles it up.
And his throw on the money for the final out of the inning.
Astros one and the Rockies one. Top of the third inning.
And nobody out. Now first and third for the Astros.
Ground ball towards short. The Astros might get a run.
The Rockies might get two. Jake is safe at first base.
That'll help him with an RBI as he beats the relay throw.
It's now 2-1 Astros.
That one's wide. That'll be the second walk
of the inning for the Astros.
Al Toubaye draws a walk,
and that'll push Jake Byers up to second base.
Cam Smith at the plate.
It was a great month of June for Cam.
He sends one into right-center field.
That'll be down for a hit.
Jake Byers got a little bit of a late start,
so that'll force Tony Parashchika to hold him up.
Cam with a bullet into right center.
And the bases are loaded with one out.
Caratini to the plate. He singled his last time up.
That ball's hit high. It's hit deep.
Score in this game, 6-1.
This thin air, got to get those martinis dry.
And Victor delivering.
That's the bottom of the third inning.
Astros have opened it up a little bit, 6-1.
And Hunter Goodman reaches.
Got to bring up Jordan Beck, their left fielder.
Here's a 2-2, and that's a ground ball to the right side.
That's going to find right field to base hit.
Goodman is going to head to third base,
and he will get there without a throw.
And the Rockies have runners on the corners
answering the Astros here in the bottom of the third.
Tyro Estrada, the cleanup hitter.
He flied out to center his first time up.
Sends this one to right field. Cam Smith going back.
Still going back near the wall.
Jumps up and makes a phenomenal catch,
crashing into the wall.
That'll be a sack fly,
but Cam Smith took one away from Tyro Estrada.
And hopefully Cam's okay,
as he'll get checked out by Jake Myers.
Cam Smith never playing in this ballpark.
Had to take a peek at the wall,
and then just sold out. Great play by Cam.
Two down in the inning, and Kyle Farmer to the plate.
Ground ball towards the middle.
Dubon, with a sliding stop, will throw to first
to get Kyle Farmer to end the inning.
Good play by Dubon.
Bottom of the fourth inning, Colton Gordon back out there.
Astros lead 6-2.
Ripped out of the line.
Pass to the stop. He's safe.
In-field hit for Ryan Ritter.
That would have been extra bases,
if not for a wonderful effort by Isak Peraitis.
Back to the top of the order, Tyler Freeman.
Freeman rips up to left. That'll go down.
Freeman's looking for extra bases.
Let's see if Ritter's going to get set.
He is.
They're two out.
He's trailed 6-3.
What you got to do is chip away.
It's early in the ballgame, just the fourth inning,
and you're down 6-1.
You chip away like the Rockies are doing here.
Astros with a 6-3 lead in Colorado, bottom of the fifth.
There's hit number three for Beck.
Might be extra bases into the left-field alley.
Huston was way to second.
He's in there standing with his 17th double of the year.
Ground ball slowly hit.
The runner moves to third on the ground out by Estrada.
Brenton Doyle now. Pitch to Doyle.
He checks his swing.
It's a tapper up the first-base side.
It's going to stay fair,
and they just got him at first base on the flip.
Ball was in the air from the pitcher,
and Brenton's left hand hit the bag.
Right? Oh, yeah. He's totally safe.
All the field is overturned. The runner is safe.
Good hustle by Brenton after a late start on that.
He gets credit for a single.
One out for Kyle Farmer, who's 0 for 2.
That ball skied into center.
Back goes Myers, still going back near the wall.
He'll jump up, and he makes a phenomenal catch.
The runners around second base.
They have a chance for a double play.
Dubon doesn't realize it.
Tag everybody.
There was not one umpire.
First-base umpire out in right field
was the one making the call.
And they called no catch?
I did not see him, to be honest,
and right now there is mass confusion.
He caught it off the wall and sold it,
trying to keep the runners where they were at.
Oh, yeah. That's clearly off the wall.
Here's the explanation from Mark Wegner.
The call on the field is that there was no catch in base.
There you go. There we go.
We got an out. That's crazy.
Good old-fashioned 8-6-4.
Gets Orlando Arce at the plate.
Two on, two out, a run home.
Ground ball. Dubon to his left
will make the play to first in time
to get Arce at the end of the inning.
Astros with a 6-4 lead over the Rockies.
Spotted with the eighth in Colorado.
And now on the pitch for the Astros
is right-hander Brian Abreu.
Got him.
Abreu picks up a strike out of the first batter he faces.
One out here in the eighth.
Oh, instead the fastball right through the middle of the plate.
Back-to-back Ks for Abreu.
Two outs here in the eighth.
1-2. Did he go around?
Yeah, he did. Couldn't hold up on the slider.
And Brian Abreu comes in and strikes out the side.
Josh Hader on to try and close it out for the Astros.
Bottom of the ninth in Colorado.
Astros with a 6-4 lead over the Rockies.
Now it's Hunter Goodman, key homer,
to start the scoring in this game in the first.
For the second time tonight,
Hunter Goodman gets the Rockies within 1-6-5 Houston.
This is a great pass.
Tying run on with one out in the bottom of the ninth
on a five-hit night for Jordan Beck.
So the tying run is aboard.
Tyrell Estrada to the plate.
Got him. Big strikeout for Hader
as he gets Estrada fishing.
Two outs. Jordan Beck at first.
Brenton Doyle will try and keep it alive.
Runner goes. Tried to check his swing.
That's a swing ball game over. Astros win 6-5.
Hader's a perfect 24 for 24 and saves to start the year.
And the Astros win another one-run game.
They're now Major League Best 18-7.
